Baffled by harmonica 'positions'? - here is a simple explanation. I am available for online and in person tuition. Please visit www.backyardmu... first position, second position, third position explained.
You sir are a legend! Not only did you explain it, but you also showed examples. EVERY other channel and source explain it in the most complicated way possible. Thank you!
Thank you for having a guitar and allowing us to "hear" these concepts. I get now. So many folks with videos talking and showing charts and...blah blah blah. Li'l Chuck rocks. Best explanation evah!
The BEST explanation ever'....for this confusing topic..I've looked at a lot of explanations about this, but yours is the best... thanks for your help lolwit
1st position the blow notes are accented while in 2nd position the draw notes are accented In 3rd which is a minor key you would start on 4 draw. The circle of 5ths is a excellent example Example C = 1st position. Count up 5 including the C C D E F G. G= 2nd position 5 up from G=D which is 3rd position.
To add to my earlier comment both 2nd and 3rd position accent draw notes the difference is in 3rd position bending most of time isn't necessary while in 2nd note bending is used quite often.
I've been exploring first and second positions and when I'm playing guitar tabs if I'm right first position is a whole lot of blow of a traditional song and second position is a whole lot of of draw and bending. I don't know what notes I'm on most of the time but I match the harp to the guitar by ear and it seems to work out okay. third position is untouched territory for me.
Well you just saved me some money. I was about to buy some minor harmonicas. In fact I did, but I was going to get more. How does first and second position work with minor harmonicas?
Minor harmonicas are great too, I use and Am a lot, it works with Am and Dm nicely. Every harp has its place, i mainly use my ears... if it sounds ok, well then,... it's ok. I don't overthink it :) check this one out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oQWBAljs4lE.html
Hello can you please explain for me because I'm very confused , for example on first position ok a g chord and a g harp etc but when I play a song on guitar it could start in g but then as you play the song you change chords g - d- f-c etc so why is it that you are playing in a key of G when to play the song your are playing you also use so many other chords on the guitar .so on my example your second chord is d so why is the harp g and will match a d chord .but if your first chord is d you use a d harp ? Even writing this is messing with my brain
ok first up, your ears are No.1 and will tell you whats right and whats wrong, if it sounds awful then somethings probably wrong, if it sounds ok, then you are doing just fine. secondly, I think it's essential to have an understanding of basic music theory... what notes make up a scale, what notes make up a chord etc etc. especially the notes that make up 'triads' like the chord of G or D etc, plus the major scale and the Blues scale. Forgive me if you already have a handle on this but... the scale of G is GABCDEF#G, a G chord is made up of the notes GBD, a C chord is made up of the notes CEG, a D chord is made up of the notes DF#A, these chords all share notes form the G scale. All these notes are available on a G harp, that's why it all works and sounds ok. for further info, I am available for lessons online, worldwide. feel free to hit me up anytime. :)www.backyardmusic.co.nz/harmonica
Good grief. It's simply choosing the proper harp cross-key to match the music key. Has nothing to do with how you actually PLAY the harp. Only took about 20 explanations for that simple idea to come through. By the time everyone else go done over-explaining it, I was ready to give up figuring it out. THANKS. Been doing it all my life and never knew it LOL
You've done it again Dave. Straightened out something that's been plaguing me for years. Ever considered developing a course for would be guitarist/harmonica players? I'd be more than happy to pay for such a course as I'm sure would many others. I'd also like to buy your CD's but but with all this Corvid-19 going on, I don't think you'd be able to post to Thailand which is where I am currently living.
Hi Sean, thanks for your kind words. I teach my guitar / Harmonica method online anywhere in the world. feel free to hit me up here www.backyardmusic.co.nz/harmonica Also, I can presently post CD's worldwide, New Zealand isn't locked down. I currently have a CD deal on. www.backyardmusic.co.nz/shop
