Harvesting from the PNW with Friends (Puget Sound King Crab)
What an epic weekend... Good times all around. Join me for another awesome two day freediving adventure off the coasts of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I get to hang with with ‪@AquaticMonkey‬, ‪@SharingTheWild‬, ‪@unchartedodyssey‬, Bryan, Julie, Eric and Maureen. We filled our plates with Oysters, Mussels, Greenling, Clams, Redrock, Dungeness and Puget Sound King Crab. We also dove with all the usual suspects, such as Lingcod, Cabezon and Rockfish. Oh yeah, and a Giant Pacific Octopus encounter!!! Hope y'all enjoy.

Thanks! Visibility is definitely better in the winter but I've had some 50' vis days in the summer too. The algae in the water is what typically destroys the visibility around British Columbia but algae blooms come and go with the tides. I've only had a few dives that were a complete write off, having a decent dive light is a saving grace on those days.

I love your videos! The voiceovers about sustainability and harvesting are so helpful. I’m curious where was the dive site for the Puget Sound Crab??? Is it legal to harvest them in any area?
@PNWSamson
@PNWSamson 15 дней назад
Thanks! Sustainability is key. Hmm, they are closed in Marine Protected Areas, like Whytecliff park, and also in dive closures. For example, the discovery passage in Campbell River is a no harvesting while diving area. Same with Ogden Point in Victoria. I'd love to share the location but I try to be fairly discreet with specifics on the internet. Sorry!

Not just a proper fitting helmut wither☺ Wrist guards and even 'bite guard' for anything he can move fast on...little kids bite tongues so often or forward momentium takes them face forward on i.e. bike bars when crash etc so safety guards are good. Anyhooo I know you won't share clips where he isn't geared up in fear of the wrath, hehe. I hope y'all get bumps in your followers & subscribers. When he asked if I wanted to be a part of Immenso it was a no brainer. Great quality equipment and they put money back into our local communities and have some pretty neat plans for recycling old wetsuits. Our Abalone were heavily fished to the point of near extinction.
