Hatsudai Awa Odori 2023 第51回初台阿波踊り[16連総編集] 

Hatsudai is in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, but very near neighboring Shinjuku. The venue is the Shoseikai shopping street right outside Hatsudai Station (South Exit) on the Keio New Line (or Toei Shinjuku Line). This video was taken on Sept. 23, 2023 when Hatsudai Awa Odori was held for the first time in four years. It was the second and main day when 16 dance troupes performed from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Each dance troupe (called "ren") danced on the street two or three times. They have portable street lamps in the middle of the dance road since the streets are dark and the roadside has little room. Started in Sept. 1970 by local Hatsudai merchants, Hatsudai Awa Odori is held annually in September. Not a big Awa Odori, but still very enjoyable and not as crowded as Koenji.
