Comfort me with Apples sounds interesting for sure. I'm ready for the dark twists. I have to stay guessing.

@@Piscean83 it was hard to tell you about it without spoiling the story! It’s one of those short books that really handles itself well. I hope you like it ☺️♥️

Comfort Me With Apples is so interesting, I need to read more from the author

I'm very interested in how the author may handle a longer work! I thought this was so perfect because it was so short, so I wonder if the author could handle something more fleshed out.

Adding comfort me with apples to tbr! For me nestlings was ok. The gothic ness of it did feel like it was lacking, I’m a very visual reader so I just couldn’t fully see how gothic it was because in my head I’m just picturing the apartment bright the whole time because it’s in the city lol if that makes sense. It’s probably why I was having a hard time being set in the story. I did love the ending tho! But besides the ending I did feel like the rest kind of dragged on for me.

@@nessaxreads I agree so much with what you said about the apartment! It was definitely one of those books where the author lacked description and almost relied on the reader to do the work. Which can feel a bit lazy. Other times an author does way too much and I’m like “there is no reason to describe every single gosh dang window”. I struggled picturing the courtyard for some reason. The ending! Aaagghhhh! The insanity that was the house reveal! And the baby taking its place! What in tarnation!!!? The scene of the mom throwing herself down the stairs and intoning “stay loose” had me CACKLING. This was also my FIRST monster horror! I feel like I’m going to eat my words about how great this was the SECOND I get more into the genre and read some better examples. You ALREADY know I’m about to ask you if you have any recs? 😭🙏🏽🙇🏽‍♀️

If you want to get a comparable visual of the building in the Nestlings, there is a building in Manhattan NYC called The Dakota. You can see the Dakota in the original movie Rosemary's Baby. It was also made famous by Yoko Ono and John Lennon who resided there.

@Babiebackbooks 2 месяца назад
@@ThisIsLifeNow waitwaitwait! I looked it up and this is almost EXACTLY what I was picturing! I wonder how much of an inspiration this was for the book. I have also heard absolutely amazing things about Rosemary’s Baby. I think there is a book and a movie? Not sure. I just know the Nestlings discourse keeps bringing it up to say this book wished it was Rosemary’s.

Yes, there is a movie from 1968. There is a remake but the original from the 1968 is the best starring Mia Farrow. The book by Ira Levin is so good also. I have a 1967 copyright printing of the book that I got off a street vendor.

I really enjoyed Comfort Me With Apples…have you tried the short horror book ‘Come Closer’ by Sara Gran? I think you would like it. I will be reading Nestlings after watching this video. It sounds like a good time!!! 😅
