Mr. Tim. . . . . one of the best ideas ive had to use on steep or uneven terrain, was i attached my backhoe attatchment & used the lowest outrigger pad for stability as well as swing around & use the backhoe arm boom & bucket for stability as well.

I bought my 1023e about a year ago and I continue to come here as a guide to understanding the fundamentals of these machines. Today I learned that there is an override switch for going backwards. Update: I just mowed and can definitely share that I saved 20-30 minutes of cut time because I used the PTO override. The smallest things can make the biggest difference. Thanks, Tim!

Tractor Time with Tim , Yes I do believe people would pay for a hands on class. First time buyer’s can be intimidated by all the different functions a tractor can perform. As you have pointed out in your videos it’s not just a lawn mower. Safety would have to be paramount in overall operation. Your vast experience makes it look easy but we know that comes from seat time. In the last two videos I saw that young mans confidence grow as he actually used the features A small class say 3 or 4 at $100 per head for 4 hours of instruction. This is a small price to pay when one is considering a $20,000 purchase. Of course all of this is just my humble opinion.

I love my 1025R. The only issue I had was the reverse shut off BS switch. That is the only issue I see with this tractor. But a short utube video a zip tie and not having to cut or splice any wire. Reverse mow is no longer a problem. It only takes about 10mins from start to finish. And does not void any warranty. Now I love it 100%

My back yard too has some dips in it where my 60d cuts uneven where my 54d didn’t. I figure fill in the low places or live with it.... In a perfect world I’d have a JD zero turn AND my 2025r as I haul wood, push snow, landscape and mow. But I’m not wealthy and this world isn’t perfect and for a multi task tractor I’m very pleased with everything it does.

That is the argument for smaller decks vs larger. I went for the 60" vs the 72" on my ZTR mower. If there is uneven ground the smaller deck won't lean as much causing the unevenness in cuts.

This was one of the best comprehensive vids showing how the disconnects and reconnects function. I'm currently researching compact tractors so I can purchase one this Spring after the mud season here in Vermont. I have to mow about 3 acres of steep terrain (over a 25% grade) and my Cub Cadet XT2 is just not cutting it (pun intended). Since I really want the ability to utilize a bucket, belly mower and brush hog I think this JD 1025R fits the bill for my needs. Thanks again for the demo and I'll be sure to have the dealership let me test one out before I purchase a new one. Thanks for sharing.

If I was buying today I would change some things. I got my 1025r in late 2018 and these were not out yet, but I would have the R3 tires rather than the R4's and would have had the front diverter valve installed so I don't have to worry about it later. I would buy with the tractor anything that requires it to go back to the dealer for like the front or rear diverter valves or engine block heater, etc. My dealer didn't charge anything for install if bought with the tractor and if you can afford it, that is the time to do those things. Get the attachments later on cheaper. I got the full package with TLB and 60" mid mount mower. I didn't want to pay for the backhoe, but I had some plans for it and always wanted one so I got it to have. The 0% for 84 months helps out a lot! Also, don't forget the loadngo! Very nice! Easy install and can be bought later.

Some folks believe that mowing short looks good, but the grass leaves are what feeds the roots. Short grass is going to die out faster in AUG IMO. Consider adding clover to feed the grass, too. I believe the RIO switch is more dangerous than the issues of mowing over stuff (especially the older version). If you're working on a hill, the RIO can become a major problem. Rear wheel spacers can make a significant difference in stability. :)

Ha Tim, thus I'm having my 1025R, I never knew about the push and run your PTO in reverse..... great video, I really enjoy those detailed videos, you (I) learn a bunch on the things you point out! My peeve really is, that compared to my flail mower, my belly mower cut perfectly on a billiard table flat soil, but as soon as a dip comes, it either scalps or I get stuck, because it got hung up on the following ridge. We've a larger septic mountain and to feel a tad more at ease, I've installed 3" spacer, made a world of a difference!! One tip though, I never go off my shed with Johnny, w/o it "wearing" the front loader. Saved me numerous times to dig myself out of the spring season wet soil.

Tim and Kristy (S) I agree with Earl Smithson (below) If you could become "paired-up" with a dealer (Good Works) then real training could be done. You would need some petty big acreage for "school". I'd love it myself and it would be all of the maintenance greasing, cleaning, and tire changing/fix-a-flat, as well as, operating specific attachments and sharpening blades etc. Think about how you'd train you child in becoming a driver! If there is a problem with training tractors , maybe the class should be limited to people committed to buying only?

Very helpful video. Didn't know you were in Indiana. I live just outside of Gas City, IN. Been researching tractors have pretty much decided I will be getting a John Deere just trying to decide what I want. Want something a little bigger than the 1025.

Just got thinking.... maybe you should mention some servicing ? I’m a Deere tech who works on tons of compacts, mention grease fittings on drive shafts that get ignored and the small suction fuel filter under left step by bottom of fuel tank. Just FYI, great channel !

Sometimes you need to tap or press a nipple on a hydrolic hose if for some reason it gets under pressure while sitting uninstalled. Nolan needs to take a swing at removing, but particularly re-installing the backhoe AFTER it sags.

The B2650 Kubota you dont have a pto override reverse switch when mowing.

A 18-24 hp tlb with a artrillian front grapple and a belly mower with a rear blade would be a good starter tractor. They have some nice rear finish mowers that work good rougheer areas.

I’ve noticed if you don’t have much yard (grass) you want it to looked damn good. If you have acres you don’t have the time for it unless your retired and have nothing better to do.

Around Iowa, farmers have like 4-5 acre yards that they keep immaculate and they also mow all the grass around their corn and bean fields I'm guessing to keep weeds and bugs at bay.

These were great, Tim. I picked up a couple tips even though I already own a slightly larger Kubota. This would be a super helpful video for anyone considering a sub-compact. Question: is the ROPS intended to be at that angle? It looks funny to me. Thank you!

The tease on the single point connection! You have my attention :) Here's hoping it works for the h120 loader (and bonus points if it supports a diverter as well) :)
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 3 года назад
Adam, we’ve done a complete episode installing the single point connector. It works with h120...except the hoses have a 90 where you don’t need it. You can either get by with it, or get different hoses. Get the kit at shopgreendealer.com/ttwt use code ttwt for free shipping.

@@TractorTimewithTim Thanks Tim, I saw that one (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--Z8DhTXBYnI.html) but was holding back because of the finance committee and because it seemed like it'd interfere with a diverter valve for a 3rd function (at the very least I'd need to separately disconnect the electrical every time - which seems like the kind of thing I'd forget to do). The tease at 16:12 made me hope you might have something coming to help with both my problems :) I've been thinking I can probably get by without the 3rd function for a grapple (and maybe snow blade) just using pallet forks/bolt on hooks and chains instead (given the kinds of stuff I tend to do anyway) so it might be a moot point - but if I had the option down the road all the better. Between the two I think I actually think I'd prefer the single-point connector given how much I take the loader on and off. Maybe if I decide down the road to get a grapple I might be better served just getting a rear remote (from summit hydraulics) and some long hoses instead of a diverter (since I already have power beyond for the hoe). 🤔

I have trouble with scalping especially turning and on hilly areas. Seems my 60D deck cuts way low unless I keep it on a 9 or 10 notch. Hooking up the mower deck is my biggest issue too. I struggle to get it to latch correctly. Good to know others think it’s a bit finicky.

We're about to take delivery of a JD 1025R with a loader, backhoe and 60D mower. I've watched a lot of videos between TTWT, Good Works Tractors, and others as well as spending time doing research on the specs of different tractors. I fully expect to be satisfied with our purchase when it arrives. One question about the mowing deck: can it be raised higher up with the PTO height adjustment? We have some high grass that needs cut down and it would be best to do multiple passes.

I always appreciate the content. However to go from dissing the bx for not having a drive over deck to showing having to use plier to connect the couplings on the 1025r without a mention of the Kubota quick attach coupler is hypocritical. To each their own, but my loader comes on and off every time I mow my grass. The mower deck only comes off when I am getting into some “heavy” dirt work. I wish my bx23s had the turning radius of the 1025r, wish I had lift of the loader. But the lower overall height of the rops allows me to store the tractor and scoot under trees better. Lower rops combined with the ease of removing the loader and backhoe swing over to the kubota.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 4 года назад
Tim Gregis, I believe we have been quite open about what we see as shortcomings and inadequacies of the 1025r. Simply unfair for you to assert that we have not been so. Even the example you point to would have been left out of the video entirely if I were a ‘fan boy’. I raved about the BX single point connector in the 1025r VS. BX series. I would ask you to show me another channel who is as straightforward and open about the downsides of their favorite brand as we have been. I certainly haven’t seen one!

Tractor Time with Tim I think I was shooting from the hip a bit more than taking extra time to explain my thoughts better. I bought a tractor in large part from your channel. I think you all attempt to be very pragmatic in your approach and try to distance yourself from the tractor color fan clubs. That I applaud you for. I did not mean to imply that you are showing bias, merely that in that instance there seemed to be a deviation from the normal abundance of caution normally applied to show a non bias. Again, I applaud your channel, it is very helpful to myself and many others.
