First set up of my new Haven Tent , overall first impressions with setting it up right out of the box. #haventents # camping tents #hammocktents watch this video-- • Haven Hammock Tent-can...
Hey Wendy! A tip for inflating the mattress...if you blow a quick breath into the bag, then quickly grab it and push the air into the mattress as you were doing, it inflates in about 5 minutes. :)
That looks fantastic. Tents have come such a long way. The old canvas tents with the thick poles. That were a struggle to put together and take apart. And a total joy to leave behind. In favor of the new improved poles.
Very nice Wendy, I have not seen a tent like this. Looking forward to watching your camping trip with your new tent, but yes I agree a hot tent is best in the winter. Happy camping 😊
Thank you for sharing it all including the missteps common with all new setups. When I return from my upcoming camping/fishing trip, I’ll order the Haven. I’m a side sleeper and I issues getting on my side in my hammocks. Also, you might want to try one of the small rechargeable pumps available. Happy camping.
thanks Ron, I have since purchased one of those pumps and it does make the world of difference, I look forward to getting out in the haven before too long. Love its versatility.
Us older women know how to camp comfortably in style 😂 I have a Haven also but haven't camped with it yet. Can't wait. Thank you for the video Wendy. Have fun🤣 💕🏕️👍👍
lets hear it for us older campers for sure !! let me know what you think of your Haven after you try it. I am planning a camp out soon myself. We can compare experiences.
Thanks for the info. I contacted haven tents as they don’t sell their inflator in Canada? They suggested just what you said. Thanks again. I’ve now ordered one on line.
thanks for your comments Matthew- Yes, the Haven is quite comfortable- I look forward to getting out in mine again when the spring weather comes and the temperatures warm
@@wendyoutdoors2230 oh and I forgot to say, the mattress can get squeaky. I put a small bed sheet under mine and its pretty much silent. Stay safe out there
I have the Haven XL and have to agree with you on the stuff sack/inflator. It's too slow. I purchased the battery- operated pump, much better. I got this tent to use motorcycle camping so the weight of the tent isn't really an issue. One thing that does concern me is the tension on the zippers when I'm inside and the fact that you have to reach so far to open and close them. I did make 4" inside zipper pulls using orange paracord to make it easier to see and use them when it's dark Thanks, and looking forward to hearing more from you on this tent
Thanks for the great comments. I have ordered a pump from Amazon as I can’t get theirs in Canada for some reason. Will install zipper pulls, good idea. Thanks. Not sure when I’ll get out , wet and cold now. Really keen to try it out though.
Thanks for the setup video! I'm looking at possibly replacing my Lawson hammock tent with a Haven. It looks like it will be far more stable, and for me the lay flat is a must. I've tried a traditional hammock and always feel too constricted.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jc0knV6R-V0.html.hi Adam, I just added this video after my first overnight in the Haven. had a few challenges with keeping the mattress in place but overall quite comfortable. hoping I can overcome that.
I did exactly that. Had a Lawson and I liked it, but always had to tie the corners down to keep it stable. The Haven is a huge improvement. Very stable plus a flat lie. You won't be sorry you made the switch.
Looks like a great hammock. I’ve had my eye on one for awhile. I’ve been hammock camping for about twenty years and have quite a few hammocks. The bridge hammocks are very comfortable. The only cons are that they can be tippy. To correct that problem you can tie out the four corners with shock cords. That system works well. Great video. I look forward to seeing you spend a night in it. Have fun and be safe out there!
Hi Wendy, great vid, I have a Haven, the the first night wasn't good, I think you have to tinker and adjust , I had a problem with the mat coming out of the corner holders. I'm thinking of putting heavy duty Velcro from the bottom of the mat to the bottom of the hammock to stop any sliding movement. That may just be my experience but everyone is different! Thanks, good luck, jv
New sub & looking forward to your content. Agree that hammocking is my preference over a tent. Also that flextail pumps are great and double as a lantern.
thanks so much for joining in on my mini adventures. Really appreciate it. Do you live in the Yukon? It is a beautiful area of Canada. I was actually born there!
Thanks Heidi, I watched a few videos before trying to do it! I’d used a hammock tent before too so I had the general idea. Always fun to try something new.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 , it is fun trying something new. I’ve never tried a hammock. I’ve strictly been a tent camper but I think I’ll get a hammock and try it. My hesitation has been I have a bad back. So I’m not sure how that will be.
New subscriber...great channel! I have one question: Where did you find/buy the reflective pad you put under the air mattress? What name/brand is it? I am seriously considering the Haven XL based on your great review. Thanks for sharing!
@@wendyoutdoors2230 Thanks! I was asking about the thin reflective pad, not the inflatable one that comes with the hammock. Thanks a bundle, great channel!
I’ve given up on hammocks because I’m tired of trying to figure out and spend money on insulation options. Having insulation plus the hammock and fly makes them so much heavier than my Durston tents and excellent lightweight sleeping pads that I have. I’ve tried the Lawson and Hennessy hammocks with various ways of insulating them find it an exercise in futility. I think if I want to hammock camp in non-bug season I’ll try my lounging hammock instead. The only hammock system I’d now consider is the Amok but it too is very heavy with a sleeping pad when compared to the Durston and one of my good sleeping pads.
Hi Lisa, thanks for the comments. I will be trying out my Haven tent as soon as I can find a window in the weather, meaning not freezing . I’m not keen on being cold either. I see myself as a warmer season camper. Here that means April til October. My main issue is sleeping position. I would not be able to back pack with this set up unless that was all I carried ! I’m no longer the pack mule I once was but I feel it will be ok for canoeing .At least that’s my hope. I will have a look at your system on line . If I was packing the Haven on my back I would opt for a different mat and put it up on the ground as a bivee. Been thinking about that for a bit. I appreciate your input very much. Thanks again.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 are you in Ontario? I see you follow Lost Lakes et al. I’m in Ontario too and tried out winter camping last winter. It was fun. The tent I have is the Durston X-Mid 1P and also the 2P. Dan Durston is Canadian and lives in Golden BC. My sleeping pads are Nemo Tensor V2 LW, MEC Vectaire LT, and Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm. Each pad for a different reason. The MEC is the one I use most and on kayaking trips.
@@wanderworm hi Lisa, I live on Vancouver Island in BC. Despite folks claiming we are in the forever spring flowers belt here it’s actually cool and damp a lot of our winter. The cold penetrates and is not conducive to camping for several months. At least not for me. I sometimes envy the snow and hot tent camping you folks do in Ontario. Wish I was a few years younger!!! however I’m thankful for what I am still able to do at 73. Here’s to all who love the outdoors!!!
I know I am late to the game, but give the snugpak cocoon a try. I have used that down to single digits temps. It is not super roomie, but it is really warm.
no, I don't think so. The inflatable mattress is what gives the tent the flat lie. The foam isn't rigid enough. it also provides good insulation. thanks for watching
