A very well done video Ryan. Some magnificent bucks there. Axis,,IMO, have the best meat of the exotics. Here in Texas some have become free range escaping from those huge HIGH fence game ranches. A cull hunt on does can cost $2500- ridiculous! While you have to cull them because of population, we have feral hogs by the millions just in Texas. Because they aren’t game animals they can be hunted 24/7/365 on private property. Anny weapon including and used by wealthy people a true “ chain gun in .50 cal”
We hunted the first week and they were still really spooked. Talked to one of the locals and he said they’ve been eradicating deer before season started. I found some carcasses about a week old
Yes, not "eradicating" but there were some population control doe and maybe ewe (not sure on the ewes) prior the start of the season. Corona cut down the take from the prior years, so a control hunt was executed. Probably did set them off a bit early ... ideally, they'd do it after the normal season but I think the timing and uncertainty of our State to handle corona probably forced them to execute the control hunt asap before things change.
Currently, for Hawaii stuff, my primary is a 1.5 and 1.7 Sevr broadhead. However, I do often keep at leasts one 100gr. standard slick trick in the quiver for the moments I'd rather use a fixed blade broadhead. Few reasons there and I do find myself using both almost equally locally. I have a quite short 26.5" draw as well.
A hunt like this has to be so challenging with the animals so pressured by “ too many hunters?” In the same area. A lot of hunters in a small? area is exacerbated by the poor hunting skills of what is basically lack of skill and knowledge of how to really move around like a predator. Over the years ( I’m 72 and have been in the real woods since I was like 5 years old) I’ve watched so many people in various terrain etc that have almost ZERO skills at even how to move quietly and efficiently. Their face, hands etc shining brightly like neon signs to animals as they stumble around. Probably not even seeing or aware of the game that saw them . Then, multiple that type of person by just a few on a restricted size piece of hunting area and it’s no wonder the animals are jumping out of their skin at the slightest sound and movement. I’m guessing, but I will bet your thoughts are similar? But, you also have to use the land etc you have access to. There’s a Navy guy there in Hawaii somewhere that has “ privileged bowunter” channel referring to the limited? places to hunt deer and pigs also.
