As the resident Desert Apologist, y'all better appreciate the restraint that we didn't get a "all lands become Deserts" enchantment in Amonkhet, y'all got *lucky*
I don't know if 'restraint' can be applied to a deck that, with zero black cards, can churn out Zombies faster than most dedicated Zombie decks. Whether you be running the budget route of feeding Dunes of the Dead to the Zuran Orb 3+ times a turn or just Scapeshifting into six deserts and a Field of the Dead.
Playing lands out of the graveyard in colors that can run Armageddon, Jokulhaups, Heroic Intervention, Avacyn, Teferi's Protection, AND Boros Charm? What could possibly go wrong?
that would... cost him that desert PLUS whatever deserts are in his graveyard as the entire thing gets exiled... Dunes of the Dead synergises a lot better
@@TheDerpyDeed He would only need to sacrifice a single desert. Scavenger Grounds doesn't specify it needs to be itself. So, if you had Desert of the Indomitable & Scavenger Grounds in play, you could pay 2 & sac Indominable to exile al graveyards & keep the Scavenger Grounds to do it again. I have seen this exact play go off against Muldrotha players - one mass grave exile they can handle, but two?
@@notgonnasay09still costs him all the deserts in his graveyard, which if you look at the desert stuff coming in thunder junction, you want them in there
"USA brings democracy to ravnica" was out of pocket oh my god. I 100% started snickering uncontrollably on this train. Peak short. Gotta say one of the best u ever made ❤
I feel like old Hazezon, while probably weaker, is way more fun due to his weird wording making it possible to abuse the stack and make sand soldiers that don't disapear
@@dragonfire72 You forgot drawing more than 100 cards in a single turn by stacking Tomoya, the Revealer with Sea Gate Restoration and ways to copy both.
The Hazezon, Jedit, Johan books are one of my favorite MtG book trilogies. They're like Lord of the Rings plotwise, if the main bad guy on LotR was an actual character in the story instead of an offscreen ghost and the win condition for the good guys didn't revolve around getting rid of one deus ex machina level plot mcguffin.
I am once again Humbly requesting Mommy Titania (Nature’s force specifically). She is just everything I love about green distilled into one hot package. Do it for the culture. Do it for the 5/3’s. Also zoprandel, hunger dommy mommy and unnatural growth is a fun way to have a steady stream of what are in combat 20/12 elementals
Day 32+ asking for the roast of varolz the scar stripped. Listen man, what is it going to take for you to roast mr stripper daddy here? Name your price.
That beard is a win, I'd give him a chance. He can get it, though please make sure he bathes. I don't want him smelling like he spent 40 years walking through the desert. Also, day ??? of asking for Kasla, the Broken Halo. Looking at her art makes me feel some type of way.
Hazezon is one of my favorite commanders. Playing and saccing grasping dunes multiple times per turn to kill creatures is very fun. Then I play a funky cat (jetmir) and I suddenly win.
Man I never even thought of mass land destruction with him, the token generation is ridiculous though he produces tokens faster than teenage rabbits who got their hands on Viagra
i must just not be seeing it. i've played against hazezon a few times and have never been afraid of their tokens, though i'm a lathril player so i might just be everything you guys fear in hazy but worse cuz my Lathril is takin friggin steroids. she's scary (gets fear or forestwalk) and she comin for dat ass.
@@Fausto_4841it's the fact that it's 2 per land. Red, white, and green are all good at mass producing and buffing tokens as well. Doubling season, populate, Krenko, etc. If you play against a good Hazezon; you have no lands and they are making 8~10 1/1's a turn that are actually 6/6's with trample and flying.
@@Dylan-yy3rw no doubt WRG is great with tokens, i just feel like there are other options that do the same thing but better, and like the "sins" of Hazezon are kind of just those of the shard. d-seas and krenko are wild for sure, Cathars' Crusade too, but to me they're like stand-alone threats that hit in any deck, if that makes any sense. i must have just gotten lucky with my opponents, but admit i forgot about Azusa and Hulk's skinny little brother. at first i thought the desert type would be too limiting with green ramp bc it cares a lot about land type or being basic, but i didn't think about loading up your GY with red's rummaging card draw.
As somebody who built a 5-color Desert deck with a Druid subtheme, this one hero was something I was always hoping for. Now to commit land crimes worthy of modern real estate!
The thing to remember about deserts is many of them have sacrifice abilities. Usually they’re not very good, except for Scavenger Ground. But when they’re repeatable…
This reminded me that not only are there cards that turn lands into islands but also cards that hate islands so now I'm theory crafting an island hate deck.
I've actually wanted to build a lot of the DMU commander cards, Hazezon, Tetsuo, Ramses, a bunch of em. I'd love to see your take on Estrid or original Anje, they're my two main commanders!
Maybe when we return to Amonkhet (or go to another desert-plane, but we all know it's just gonna be Amonkhet 2: Gritty Boogaloo), we'll have some characters that want to expand/control the deserts. And that's how we make Desertwalk matter. Like, a creature that says "Tap: target land is a Desert until end of turn" or the like.
This is a man whom is entirely unashamed about who he is, what he does, and how big a board he's gonna do it with. Hope someone's got exile and mass token removal, you're gonna need it. Maybe something to turn this Gaara cosplay into a goat or whatever so he doesn't have his effects, but then you're gonna have to keep that player from snackrificing it so good luck.
Geez.. I didn’t even think about the land wipe thing, I just thought it was because a lot of deserts have sacrifice abilities involving other deserts, or at least that’s how I play him 😂
Man I'd never even thought about running land destruction. A friend of mines plays this without any of that nonsense and it is still incredibly resilient.
Ah, Rakdos, Lord of Riots. One of my first EDH decks ever. The first multicolor EDH deck I ever built. I call him the Lord of Parties, because once he shows up, all his best friends show up with him. And wouldn’t you know, all his best friends are Eldrazi, who all come pre-equipped with party tentacles for hugging and stuff.
That Go-Gurt line about Ryan seems deeply personal and highly specific. I love that level of pettiness to no end. Also Progenitus? Ryan sounds like he needs to be slapped with a 10 Mana, Avatar of Pain
PLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEE do Queza Augur of Agonies. It’s the most fun where you’re only drawing cards and drawing yourself out to kill other people. It goes infinite with the kitchen sink and it’s so fun
