Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for after I had to replace the ABS Booster unit. Purchased Grade "A" from a bone-yard... Now it had the pump squeal when I held the brake pedal down. Removed the old one from the previously removed unit, switched out the motors along with the compressor and VIOLA... Couldn't have done it without this video.... Pay attention and then search for bleeding Hydroboost HBB ABS unit manually No scanner and he'll show you how to bleed it on the vehicle (Repeat his process several times until the pedal feels strong)... I'm sleeping well tonight thanks to this video and the follow-up.... THANKS SO MUCH WHOLESALE PARTS EXPRESS!!!!!
Thank you so much! Had this issue for a while turning on and off. Just changed it today very simple to do and this man saves you thousands. Yes, thousands from Lexus.
My 2003 4Runner had the ABS and Brake Lights on with the high-pitched warning sound. I replaced the pump motor you see here, and it fixed my issue. Massive thanks to Wholesale Parts Express for the very informative information on all aspects of this issue and fix. Thanks!!
David is awesome. He is the one in the video and he walked me through the installation of this unit on my 2003 4runner. After installing the Hbb unit, I was still getting the brake failure alarm and David suggested that I also change out the Accumulator. That fixed the issue and my 4runner is back on the road! David went above and beyond to help me out by answering my calls after normal business hours. Happy new year David. I wish you and your family the best.
This is awesome. I am getting beeping noise in my 03 Limited 4 Runner. Dealer quoted me $4,100 to replace stating ABS Pump Motor Locked/Open Circuit needs to be replaced.
I am in the same boat, replaced the motor but it’s still constantly trying to build pressure, I believe I need a new accumulator. Everything I read so far it appears that the accumulator cylinder screws into the pump housing, is there a special tool to screw the accumulator off? Anything to know before I try to unscrew it off?
@@justinvardas8654 I ended up changing the accumulator and it fixed the problem! To take off the accumulator first I pumped the break pedal like 50 times with the car off to relieve the pressure. I ended up using a large pipe wrench to get it going, once it broke free you can turn it by hand off the thread. Came off with no pressure . Bought another accumulator on eBay for $150, threaded it on, started the car and everything worked just no problem. Did not have to bleed the breaks or anything. My break pump stopped going off every 3 seconds. It’s been a few weeks breaks work fine.
Thank you so much for sharing this information, i have an LC Amazon doing the same thing, it seems to be pumping back into the reservoir everytime it makes the screeching noise explaining the reverse polarity on motor fault. going to give it a go as soon as i can source a new motor in UK.
Mate that was awesome, I'm in Australia and we cant buy that motor separate here, i will pull mine out and have it rebuilt locally, also thanks for the link, its good to know i can buy one from the USA if needed. Mine failed last week and i had to be towed a few hours to get the Land cruiser home. I feel very confident i can fix it now. Cheers.
Most dealer mechanics are only experts at swapping parts, not to offend your friend he is only doing/saying what they trained him for, the dealer has a protocol that when x car comes in with y condition the answer is z ..we are the variable that they dont count on ...the people that show you a,b,or c can also be an option..glad you were helped by the video
I replaced the pump and fixed problem just like you said, stops great!! couple of hours and done!! I am hearing the abs pump motor come one occasionally for a couple of seconds and then goes off, is this normal when first replaced and should it stop? I did bleed all the brakes when I was done manually. Thanks so much for your post, local toyota wanted $3700 for the repair...... you are the man!!
When you install this back into the vehicle, are there any special tools needed? I've seen mixed recommendations- some say you need the Toyota Software w/ Scanner, others say you don't. What is advised?
Hi, I just replaced the whole unit with a genuine part. 2 days later I have codes, C0278, C1253, C1254. Any ideas or pointers appreciated. Top video btw, clear and straight forward.
Have got the ABS working in Estops and bled thoroughly, no more codes. Thanks for the pointer. Have a slight pump type noise and brake pedal pulse. Only happens when stopping at slow speed, not all the time. Any idea..
Hello, thank you for the great video on how to replace the ABS motor, I actually did that a couple years ago and it worked great, however, now I’m getting some sporadic scratch, buzzing noise, and a technician told me that I have a bad ABS pump, which is the part that sits above to the left of the motor. I’m wondering if you’ve ever replaced this ABS pump or requires the entire master cylinder housing to be replaced? Thank you kindly for any input.
Great video man, I have an 08 FJ and all brake associated lights are on the dash. Brake pedal goes to floor and then is stick while driving. I did notice that I left the car off over night and the brake accumulator was making a noise for about 20 seconds straight. All lights are still on. Is this just a bad accumulator maybe. I guess taking it in and running test might be a start but I hate to go there
My Prado 120 has same unit. Commutator was worn down and 2 fields missing. Had new commutator fitted and reinstalled cost me less than R500 in South Africa. Bled brakes and back to normal again.
I am also grateful for the video. For sure I not only got to save money but also got to get knowledge which I didn’t have. I can’t seem to find the reservoir plastic for the brake system on you website. Do you have it in stock?
Very Informative video. Was looking for this rebuild video for a while. I have a 99 Lexus GS300 that i replaced this unit in but i kept my old one. Do you think i can do the same with my old unit? and what is the OEM part number for these motors? Great video. Thank you. Any pointers would help.
I hoping this will fix my abs light . The 04 4 runner was used when purchased with 220,000 miles. Multiple lights on I have gotten several out and focus now is vsc trac , vsc off , abs ! That would na very them all gone . I wish I knew if it ever made that noise you talked about were I didn’t own it I don’t know a lot about it . Would you happen to know how I can find out if is the motor or the module? I seen people saying that could be bad also. Thank you for this info and the great explanation of what happens and what to do!
Great video - to the point - thank you! I have a 2000 Lexus GS300 - I found a remanufactured master cylinder unit with new electric motor, will this new remanufactured unit have to be reprogrammed OR will I be able to just install and bleed?
For a 2007 4 Runner that is having issues, Do you recommend Sku: MOT-50212TR (HBB Trifecta Motor pump Accumulator) or just the Accumulator and Electric Motor?
I have a 2007 4runner 4.0 v6 that makes the screeching noise. I've ran it like this for 3 years but need it fixed. Do you have the newer style pump or contact info?
Hi. Whats means dtc C1251 on a 2004 4runner. The booster motor runs fine and brake pedal is fine too. The car's brakes are normally. Only the lights on dash and beep on.
the electric motor has a dead spot , yes it is running but at some point it is stopping on a dead spot and eventually gets moving again due to vibration and or driving conditions -in your case it is borrowed time, eventually it will completely burn out
Great vid, appreciated. The brakes on my 2005 GX470 is very sensitive and non linear when applying force. In other words, is hard to brake the car smoothly. When coming to a stop brakes need to be less applied (slightly released) to avoid an abrupt stop and then applied harder again so it doesn't slowly moves forward after a complete stop. Do you think is the motor, unit or something else? I did bleed all cylinders when installed new pads and rotors (OEM) and all the shims are there but the problem remains the same. Let me know what I should buy it from you. Thank you very much!
All the ABS, VSC and brake lights on , alarm sound in cabin, no power assist. No previous "warnings" like screeching or hard pedal that I'm aware of. 2003 4runner V8. QUESTION - I have no codes on the OBD2 scanner. Would a bad motor and accumulator produce distinct codes OR could they be bad without producing codes? Thank you for the time and video.
Great question, you would need to specifically scan the abs system to get the codes...there are ways of extracting the codes by jumping pins in the obd1 connector under the hood however we are prevented from sharing this method due to liability concerns
Hi I have a 2000 Land cruiser and I just bought a new brake master cylinder. Any time that the brake master cylinder doesn’t work is the motor the cause of the problem most of the time?
Hello, I replaced my motor awhile back and fixed the stiff brakes but I still get a consistent chirp chirp chirp. Can you point me in the right direction as to fixing it?
Can the motor be changed without removing the entire assembly? Are the motors the same for all 4th gen 4Runners? Any other models have a motor I could use?
my 4runner (2014) has dragging brakes. Been driving me crazy. Replaced all the calipers, all the pads, all the rotors, and fluid. Still dragging. All 4 drag just a little. When the engine is off, they dont drag. When the engine is on, they drag. Its enough to knock the MPG down from 17 to 12. They get pretty hot on highway speed trips. 250F. I think its something in the brake master cyl. Unfortunately it doesnt appear to be serviceable. Looks like im on the hook for the thousand dollar HBB unit. Cant think why after bleeding the system im still getting ever so slightly dragging brakes.
I have an issue on my HBB 07 FJ Cruiser manual transmission. The brake pedal went all the way down,no lights on dash, pump the pedal the pressure comes back, but pedal goes down again,I changed the piston for a start, but problem is still there, accumulator is on it’s way, what else You would suggest to do Thanks
I have a 04 runner and it’s not screeching but it made a sucking sound and then the brakes went out and the alarm came on. I’ve reset it but it done the same thing again. Is this the pump or something else. All help is appreciated
I need a piece of this motor.... A recent issue seems to have caused, my brake failure.. I have to keep pumping the brakes before it finally brings the vehicle (GX470) to what could be considered a stop, tho' the vehicle still wants to move even while holding down the pedal... While i shift from park(P) to reverse(R) or drive(D) the vehicle tends to move even with my leg strongly on the pedal... So i knew the brakes were not enough on the four legs.. I slowly manage the car home. Then told my boy to swith on and off the car when i gave the order which he did, then i noticed when the car was on the ABS didn't make any noise like ever, (normal or abnormal). I knew something was wrong, did i mentioned that the VSC, TRAC OFF, BRAKE, and ABS light was on?... Yea and a sound was coming from the ABS, immediately the key got turned on. I confidently grab a 10 - 8 spanner... Then told my boy to step on the brake... I loosen the pipe labelled 1... On the ABS on oil came out, did it to 2,pressured oil came rushing so i had to tighten it back, i tried it too to 3, what happened at 2 repeated itself and what happened at 1 repeated itself in 4... So i knew the brake that was holding the car what just from two pipe instead of four. being a four wheel drive car, the other two must habe been the one trying to move even while i step on the pedal to stop the other two..... To cut the story short i finally plug out the connectors and luckily i was able bring the ABS out... Check every damn thing in it i found out the motor was already burnt, God knows how... But i loose it out, took it to the battery terminals and it didnt make even an attempt to pick up... So i need a new on that must have been the problem...
I have a 2005 tundra , do you have a motor for that? My brake pedal are really hard to press and I have limited braking power. No screaming noice though, thanks for the help
Hi I have an 2007 4 runner v6 and it seems I have to floor the break pedal a bit to stop when i got home after experiancing this started hearing a screeching type noise that starts off mild and gets more prominent as my truck idles and happens every time I turn off and back on and let it idle i popped the hood and it appears to happen after the accumulator shakes is this the problem or is it the accumulator? Also I'm going to try replacing my brake fluid looks pretty old (had this 4 runner for a year) and I read on a forum that may help?
When it’s cold out my brake booster surges over and over and the fluid moves to one side of the brake fluid tank. I also have a loud alarm that sounds during this. Once it warms up the alarm goes away and the surging stops. My brakes work fine and are firm. The booster has done this since I got it replaced a couple years ago. Will this fix my problem?
wonderful video, my 2006 4runner ABS failed with high pitch noise, technician advice is to convert to manual brake system, am really confused, please what is the best option to replace the ABS unit or convert to manual
First off , If your mechanic is suggesting a brake modification you should find a new mechanic- to me that says "I don't know what i'm doing so lets stick something in there I'm more comfortable with" I would never convert to a vacuum brake system and risk endangering my family -your brakes will never be right! second -if you are getting the high pitched noise in an 06 there are 2 possibilities of failiure and I can walk you through checking both parts send me an email David@wholesalepartsexpress.com
06 4runner. My tech recommend me to replace the whole assembly. $3.6k 132k miles. What's your warranty on your parts against OEM? I must mentioned my brakes went went all the way in to brake. I lost them, after an accidentally cross jumped car charge Totally new stuff. Never had problems with 4runner
Great video and explanation; But How do I know this is what I need to do? What are the 'warning' signs besides screeching, which I am half deaf, so I may not hear it... So, do the brakes stop working?
I have a 2003 4runner. Bought this motor and it fixed the noise for about 1 year. When I called about warranty they told me to bleed the brakes up top and I did. Seemed to help. Now 6 months later its screaching again. Bleeding doesn't help. When I turn the key to on position the pump seems to intermittently run and never cut off. Instead it starts screeching. Could it be something else like a pressure sensor? I'm in the USVI and can't make an 888 call. Please provide a local number for me to call you. Thanks, Alan
I have a 2003 toyota 4 runner with 335000 miles on it. The codes are c1223 / c1252 / c1256. Do you think i only need the electric motor or the whole assembly?
You should do a video on how to Bleed these units after replacing the motor so people dont have to bother calling in to bleed these things and waste time. also, should put instructions to call in to get a walk through on how to bleed the units
Is this system prone to leaking? 2001 4runner. I am tracing down a P0171 issue. the MAF has been cleaned but not replaced. Another video traced to MAF and Breakbooster (but the booster was the older type that you can't miss in an engine compartment). Please let me know. Great repair. I'll do it if I have too.
In short the answer is no, this unit would not cause that code because there is no vacuum to speak of attached giving the false code ...lean condition...I would check your intake boots beyond the MAF for a leak as well as consider other sensors such as o2... does the truck drive normal aside from that code?
@@wholesalepartsexpress9666 I just replaced the O2 sensor, still code. So, if there is no vacuum on the booster, and I couldn't find it, that's great! and the boots are new by 4 years after I bought her. And I've checked them as well. who knows right? New MAF sensor it is. I checked your website and didn't see it there or else I woulda because you responded. If I ever had the issue your video highlights, I'll be doing the repair you've demonstrated. Thank you very much.
I think I got that issue. My brake and abs light turned on. Also there’s a beeping sound that won’t go away. Was told it could be the accumulator motor going out. Brakes work fine and haven’t had issues braking.
I have a 2004 gx470. Sporadic brake pedal vibration(like abs is activated) while braking at low speed or while stopped. Every once in a while I will get the screeching noise for a second from the mc area. No dash lights. Does it sound like this part would fix my car or is something else going on too?
I have the same issue on my 04. The motor comes on frequently and makes a chirp 3 or 4 times after it pumps. I am thinking that it is a bad accumulator. Did you ever fine the root of the problem?
I’m having the screeching noise only when I turn the key before turning the car on. It turns on and off. Breaks aren’t stuff but does feel a little different. I’m hoping this Would be the fix. What’s the link for a 2007 4 runner 6cyl
www.wholesalepartsexpress.com/product/new-4runner-gx470-abs-pump-master-cylinder-repair-electric-motor/ you can order online or over the phone 888-241-8277
I changed mine out and I still have the ringing noise and now a grinding noise can you please help me. Make a video on how to change out the accumulator please! Bc it's got to be that now that I've read the comments
I have a 2001 Toyota 4runner with this issue, could this be what is eating up the power in my Battery and new Alternator? I have 167,000 miles and when I charge the battery the engine sounds strong but as soon as I remove the charger it dies immediately and I have purchased 2 new batteries.
Hi, I used your video to replace my abs motor on my 2003 4runner, worked great, only problem now is my VSC TRAC/ TRAC OFF lights stay on now. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery to reset, but no luck. No issues driving, but would like to clear it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
@@wholesalepartsexpress9666 my break and abs lights are on in my 2003 4runner dash. also a continuous beeping sound. would replacing this abs motor be a fix? thank you
Good day. Bought a motor but it comes with a you must apply 12V power to blue and red wires after it's attached to the pump and accumulator. Is that normal?
I know I have an issue with the unit. I want to make sure the noise I here is the same screech that your describing. Unique winding sounds. I hate to buy the $400+ motor and it not be the problem. Help
So, would this solve the problem related to codes: C1256: Accumulator low pressure malfunction, C1252: Hydro-booster pump motor malfunction, and C1223: Malfunction in ABS system?? Brakes are a little soft but get better if they are pumped once or twice. I don't have the screeching noise though. It's a '03 Toyota 4runner.
more than likely , the moment you have the 1252 code all the others follow and if you think about it how is the accumulator supposed to have pressure if the boost pump is malfuctioning?the warranty also covers a full credit towards purchase of a complete unit if the motor does not resolve the issue
I think I am having the same issue if I push the brake pedal down you can hear the pump prime and then when it's finished priming it makes a hard clicking sound. Could this be the motor you replaced in this video? I have it recorded.
I have these “hissing” noises when I apply my brakes on the 2003 4Runner. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens infrequently. It sounds like an hydraulic is being discharge or something like that. Could this be the same problem as you’re having?
You mentioned you have installed the ABS motor pump many times. Where are you located? Maybe you can replace it for me if I pay you? I’m from LA/OC County. Thx
