God I miss the 70s SO MUCH! Greatest time in Earth history to be young. I wouldn't trade it for youth NOW. It was a privilege to be alive when real freedom and happiness were king!
It was also before MTV I’m gonna get a lot of flack for this but I really think MTV screwed up music because band started writing songs to fit the style of a music video you’ll notice that overall album creativity went down the toilet after MTV came out
Facts bro 70’s was the best era best decade to be alive the car’s the entertainment just everything and I wasn’t even alive yet i wish you were lucky to have experienced it
I adored Freddie Prinze. I loved Chico and the Man. I was sad when he passed away 😢. The world was sad for me the day I heard he was gone. He was amazing.
I had such a crush on him and even though I was very young, I was devastated when he died. I just pulled this video up to show my daughter who he was because she is a fan of Freddie Prince Jr.
He was a legend before his time, you can tell he grew up around black people because he got us down solid. RIP Freddie, after watching this he is now on my top five of favorite comics! #Respect
Of course Freddy grew up around black people like most of us Puerto Ricans did. In fact Puerto Ricans are a combination of black, white and Indian people.
Freddie prinze..1976..I can watch his performances, STILL LAUGHING...had material, 40 plus years later, still hits home...we loved you, freddie... you made us all laugh, even 40 plus years later...
Because of his sitcom fame, people forget what a great stand up comic Freddie Prinze was.. I prefer him doing stand up than playin his "Chico" character. Stand up is where he really shined. He was the whole package as a comic: charismatic, great stage presence, great delivery, nice empathy with the crowd and of course funny material. He could've clearly done this special by himself but he was generous to throw a bone to his comedy peers. The golden age of stand up was definitely in the '70s.
Well said 👍 Prinze was up there with the late great Bill Hicks and George Carlin. Authentic social commentators as well as brilliant comedian's wonder if those three ever met ( Carlin was from New York too so I hope so )
Freddie was undoubtedly one of the best to ever do stand up, his success would have never stopped but it was shorted much too soon by the evil pumped out through the pharmaceutical company’s at work and he never got the true help he needed, he will forever be one of my favorites even though he passed well before I was born!!
I was a huge fan of Freddie Prince (still am) and I had such a crush on him when I was a tween. When he died, I was heart broken for days. Loved him in Chico and the Man. He was a rising star and left us at such a young age.
In 1985 I started working at this company in NYC called SERVICE MERCHANDISE and a co-worker, a beautiful African American sister by the name of THURSDAY, told me I looked like CHICO AND THE MAN, meaning Freddie Prinze. At the time I didn't know who Freddie was but looking at him and then looking at a pic of myself from the 1980s I totally agree with her. I admire him so much and I only wished I had known of him when I was growing up in Puerto Rico during the 1970s and his show was on. RIP Puerto Rican brother.
I was a young child when Chico and the Man was on televiion so I don't have many memories of it. I had no idea how funny and adorable Freddie Prince was. 😺
I saw this on HBO when it 1st appeared live. What a great comedian. And so sad his demise. Thank you for the few moments you graced us with your presence.
Young Freddie like young Eddie, debuted as fully formed comedians who could appeal to all ages. Both mustached comics from NY. Both became national stars on NBC. Both great.
Freddie's style is cool, calm & collected. Especially, for a time when everyone was outrageously loud and coke'd up. BTW: Anyone catch the Cosby reference @ the 11:35-11:50 min mark? Industry folks knew about his shenanigans (4) decades ago!
It dogged Cosby almost from the beginning of his career starting in the sixties. He was a regular at the Playboy Mansion, and I am sure Prinze knew plenty of stories about him.
wiredwebmaster Exactly the industry knew about his shenanigans for decades. Yet they chose not to do anything about it. So his recent arrest only means that they’re angry at Cosby about something, other than rape.
I started watching Freddie because of George Lopez .. the way he talked/admired him made me curious.. did not disappoint, he’s amazing ❤️ this whole stand up was on point 👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Same here.. Curiosity brought me here and Im glad i did. Freddy was the man! Hilarious! He really inspired George Lopez and I'm sure many other comedians
I was so young and loved Freddie - so sad he couldn't hang on. What I think is so awesome is how intelligent he is about politics. Would of went over my head back then but really funny today. RIP Freddie.
A classic HBO On Location. Saw this back when cable TV was still a new thing, and you changed channels by using a slider on the box (sort of like the old office phone directories).
Mad greek Wow can you imagine all the material we would have laughed our asses off with this great comedian.drugs took lots of great comedians and this guys in a class all by himself.god bless
Saw this when I was like 6-7 years old with my parents. I didn’t understand any of it but the Stagecoach bit stayed with me all this time. I’m now 52 and that bit still makes me laugh. The Sam Peckinpaugh part is the best. LoL. I loved growing up in the 70’s.
Man Freddie was aware of RedPill knowledge and knew how to convey it at an early age. He was going to be Huge and was huge. Him talking about the Rockefeller’s and aliens started to give me chills. Then jay leno over here wearing 2 gold watches. This is alternate universe potential all over it
Not everyone is butthurt it's actually a very small segment of our society that complains about things. It's the 18-35 progressive liberal who lives on Twitter and hates every opinion unless it's their own. They will eventually grow up, get jobs have kids and responsibility and not have time to SAVE THE WORLD.
This was HBO. Most mainstream comedians weren’t doing explicit material on things like Midnight Special and the Tonight Show either. Plus, Freddie Prinze caught heat during that time too. Protests outside of NBC studios because of Chico and the Man. Several of his early club appearances were cancelled because of risqué material. Also, several of his contemporaries and mentors like David Brenner pushed him to clean up his act. Let’s not try to rewrite history here.
Yes it's true you can't do that kind of material anymore. Society has not become sensative, we have become hypersensative. What a talent Freddie was. RIP
I think people could, but they just won't, or don't, as they're brainwashed via the 2020 effect. Something happened that year. Lots of comedians self finance their own specials and still do real uninhibited comedy, but it's rare.
Freddie was so IN YOUR FACE. Makes you wonder if someone shut him up. Image him replacing Carson instead of Jay Leno getting all demographics on Late Night.
I have tons of respect for Freddie Prinze. He’s smart, he’s talented, he’s gorgeous, he’s the whole package. And at 21 years old! I wish he had lived to his full potential. Having said that, my gaydar is going off.
I tossed the idea around for awhile. I don’t think he was. I’ve watched a ton of videos and read everything I could find about his life and his tragic death and I’ve conclude his wife had a huge roll in this.
His wife huh? You don't suppose his wife was Ricky Martin or Bruno Mars do you? Naaahh... Peace. Check out Mitch Hedberg, Richard Jeni, John Pinette or D.L. Hughly for some other intelligent, great stuff. Sitting in sauna at gym as I type this, post 7 mile run. Listening to "Hayling" by FC Kahuna. Fade out....
@@Caracaraorangeberryyou sound like a bonehead. You called him gay then blamed his wife for his death despite him having known suicidal tendencies before they met.
always hear about this guy and his show and his suicide .. never heard him speak or do stand up .. he's really good and that confidence at that age wow .. he probably would've been huge had he lived .. sadly it seems a lot of gifted people have demons fkng with them and some just can't deal with it
Freddie was a comedic tour de force with material and improvisation, his own sitcom and hosting the Johnny Carson show. He could also sing and play guitar, piano and drums which he demonstrated as he nearly kept up with Buddy Rich He was bilingual and also knew sentences in various languages, could imitate various cultures and do accents, and he even did stand-up for the POTUS Jimmy Carter His brain was a sponge and I believe cocaine allowed him to use 75% of his brain to dazzle the world Hearing him speak and perform you just wouldn't believe he was just a teenager barely going into adulthood
@@tjduprey I wasn’t talking about the fact that it was a known name, I was talking about the fact that people have known that that family has been pulling strings across the globe for centuries.. c’mon now boomer
Freddie prinze was a prince , so sad , I grew up in those days watching these shows , Chico and the man and everything that followed ,, but it was strange cause there were really no Hispanic shows on these stations ,, and all for the name of bias , racism , I don’t care , black , white , red. Green , talent is talent , open doors ,, to all who have talent ,, but shit will never change
I can't believe he died so young. I can't believe he had a Puerto Rican mom because my mother was puerto rican and she had 2 Job raise 4 and would of never left him to take drugs. I had 3 and I was 💪 and non of my kids took drug because I would of kick butt. Even he was star I would of been with him.
Love this! What year is this from? From some of the jokes, etc. it sounds like it's circa 1976, with the Gerald Ford & Nelson Rockefeller (Ford's VP). It couldn't, unfortunately, be later than about 78 or 79. I remember watching Chico & The Man on TV back when I was 7 or so. RIP, Freddie. He really shines here, too bad he doesn't perform the whole show!
