Oh yeah that looks really nice. When I was running my SNES on an HDTV I was using a set up that involved an RGB SCART cable and an HDMI upscaler. And it’s amazing what good cabling can do for your color and clarity.

I'm glad the clarity increase came through in the video because in person it was really quite stunning, especially the Genesis. -Kris

I just got the gf retro vision cables for ps2 for $30, and regular cheap $7 composite cables and they look pretty much the same in picture quality. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t return the hd retro vision ($30) and keep using the $7 composite cables?

I have a 32 inch Sony Trinitron from 2006 that still works and has all the connections on the back. I thought about S Video since I am using Composite and that looks amazing on this TV, but if I’m going to upgrade I may purchase one of these components from you guys (I see a sale on the SNES Component but it’s only $1 off, not much of a sale sadly), and I hear the image quality is much better and a little brighter, so maybe it’s worth it to spend the money.

I have for ps1, snes, genesis, pcengine, and saturn and it’s amazing how good games look on my JVC D series crt. The one thing i’m annoyed about is that the dreamcast cables never came out, which would have been amazing for my setup. But regardless, great product and I appreciate their work

If anyone still has a hard time seeing the difference, just take notice of the Sonic Icon in the lower left corner of the screen while the Sega Genesis is playing.

Great video! What about the PS2? Would you recommend a retrovision component cable on a HDTV with built-in component connections? Or just a standard component cable will do? Thanks in advance.
@stoneagegamer

So, PS2 is a bit more complicated. This is the information we have on our site regarding the PSX adapter for the Retrovision cables. "Although the PlayStation adapter will work with PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles, RGB/SCART output needs to be enabled in the system menu and even then it can only operate properly in the standard definition video modes (240p/288p/480i/576i). Additionally, the built-in DVD/Blu-ray Player application in these consoles is restricted from using RGB/SCART mode, so DVD/Blu-ray playback won't display properly when set to this mode. If this missing functionality is important to you, we recommend waiting for the HD Retrovision PS2/PS3 YPbPr cable which we hope to offer soon." I hope that helps.

I wish there were a splitter available, so that it wouldn't be necessary to repeatedly pull the cable out of the Genesis and plug it into the adapter on the PlayStation. It would reduce wear and tear on the jacks and the cable itself.

@stoneagegamer I just bought the HD Retrovision cable for the Genesis, and honestly, I didn't know it was possible for a CRT to look this good! Now I'm thinking about getting the ps1 adapter, but I'm trying to figure out a more elegant solution than manually switching the connection. Especially because the HD Retrovision cable is pretty snug once seated in the Genesis.

If original hardware and it's accessories keep evolving like this, I expect the emulation manufacturers to start issuing takedown notices immediately!

I haven't seen the SNES running on Component with a CRT first hand, but in the past I remember seeing how games looked using S-Video(on a 25" Sony CRT) which is similar except for the fact that component has the upper hand in colour and contrast. Overall, I didn't like it. It was too sharp/clear. I know that's the point and it looks amazing once you get to the Dreamcast, Gamecube & Wii, yet for the 8-16 bit consoles I actually prefer composite with a 27" Sony Trinitron CRT, and even RF(solely for NES). Why? Because that extra softness, smoothens out the pixels and makes them look more organic, natural and cartoon-like aesthetically speaking and of course it's just nostalgic. The last thing I would want personally, is for my 8-16bit characters to look like a pile of sharp squares, which is what you get playing 8-16bit games in 720p-1080p on an HDTV. Still, Component on a 480i 27" CRT with an SNES will still look much more natural than the former. Plus, CRT as every retro-ling knows has a massive advantage in motion clarity, since they don't have any motion blur compared to the overrated current 4K OLED TV's of today. And latency-wise, CRT is just flawless. Curious to see how Saturn and PS1 look via component. Guess I'll have to get a PS1 & Saturn Retrovision Adapter and two pairs of Genesis component cables! :P Do those old school 3D polygons actually look better with the clarity boost that component provides over composite?

Honestly, I wasn't happy with the way this video came out at all. In person the difference, especially on Genesis, was night and day. I plan on redoing it in the not too distant future to better show the difference. The short version is, of all the cables I used, the Genesis difference was huge. The Saturn and PlayStation were less so but still very noticeable. The SNES was subtle.

@@stoneagegamer my favorite way to play SNES is on the mini with HDMI. It's much more stable than the original.

best cables... damn expensive and the sega gen 2's are hard to find. They play well with upscalers. Tv's not so well unless they can not handle a 240p signal. If you're going to buy scart cables these guys are your source.

For some reason, the cables wont display when you turn the genesis on. But if you wait and let the computer play in demonstration, it displays . But as soon as you hit start, no signal ?? Can anyone chime in ?

I used to have that CRT before I bought a Pioneer Kuro Plasma. I appreciate the attempt at comparisons, but with compressed camera feed on top of yt compression it's hard to tell the difference most of the time.

The difference on the Sega Genesis 1 and 2 doesn't show on my Pixel. I'll try again later on the Shield TV and 4k tv and update then. But just using different cables at home has made a big difference with my SNES and AV Famicom when connecting to a LCD.
@stoneagegamer

Yeah, even watching the video myself it doesn't do the cables justice. The difference on that Genesis was astounding.

Says there right on the card in the box that Jr's don't work, which are 1Chip. So could be the reason.

Which one works for n64? I was reading on the website that the one for snes works only on a modded n64 or am I reading wrong

Correct. The SNES cables work on N64 but only if it's been RGB modded. Same goes for the SNES jr.

Does the Wii / Wii U YPbPr Component Cable have an HDMI on one end, and component on the other? The HDRetrovision website doesn't provide that information in the product details. I need to know since I need HDMI to component cable to connect to my Carby.

No, it has the SNES connector on one end and component on the other. No HDMI.
@majorgear1021
@majorgear1021 Год назад
@@stoneagegamer Thanks! I’m surprised that info is so hard to find. I feel that connector types should be included in the product description. I might go with the (currently) $400 Nintendo OEM component cable , or try Carby to HDMI to component cable as the bridge to a Retrotink 5x.
