Madlittlepixel hey pixel are you familiar with the pound technology's snes clone...(super Challenger 16bit) I just ordered one of those units through Amazon...it's an HDMI unit and may or may not have an aspect ratio switch... I was hoping you might be familiar with it.. if so how's the input lag? how's the controllers? junk? mediocre? good? will flash carts work with it ? I know it kinda dumb to buy without researching it first ..I couldn't find a single review or mention of the thing on the ole interwebs btw. It's a sharp looking machine in my opinion...thanks in advance oh yeah I ordered the pound unit because it was only 39.99 with free shipping and the seller is pound technology's all the other units were either insanely overpriced came from good ole China or had crazy shipping costs.... Again thanks in advance...

Because the Pound cable doesn't have a dip switch to 'trick' the DC into faking a VGA doesn't mean you're out of options. There are the 'boot' cd's while inconvenient, are a work around. MJR touched on it.

Its actually not impossible to use this cable with non VGA compatible games, you just need to use a boot disc (such as Codebreaker) to force the game to run in VGA. While it's still not a 100% guarantee fix (like the switch on a VGA box) it does work with a lot of games and can extend the compatibility.

I noticed a bigger difference in the quality when digital foundry compared the POUND with the Akura than in this video. Kinda wish you compared more games but...

Is the Akura box a good alternative to DCHDMI for the price? 1) It's hard to find an original DCHDMI as it is 2) I'd have to pay for the installation service since I tend to accidentally break things when I take em apart, so more money 3) The OSSC is pricey as hell and needs a dedicated PSU, definitely a no from me 4) I just want a temporary solution to play Dreamcast games on my 2560 x 1440 monitor to where it won't stretch the image and look too pixelated

Your review nailed it on the head and addressed the issues about having to turn the system on first before the TV to get an aligned picture. Also, I myself, haven't noticed any sound issues. I can agree that this cable is well worth the money (Actually have a 2nd one coming). Great Review!

Kelly Greenidge I hope your not referring to me as a scalper? I purchased a 2nd as a backup and also because I own 9 Dreamcast systems and a Complete US Library. I also have a Dreamcast Link cable so if I ever want to hook two systems together for multiplayer gaming I can do so. ;)

I have the Akura box and it's great. I recommend it. If you buy the "Pound" cable just burn a boot disc so you can force some of the games to VGA. Just keep in mind there's 21 games that are not compatible period.

Also for PAL users, some PAL versions of certain games don't support vga while the US version does. Skies of arcadia and code veronica for example so buy the us versions of these since these PAL versions can't be forced to run in vga.

bEN-OFFICIAL MASSIVE if your using a modded Xbox, there is a bios that forces 480p and up. That gets rid of some of the interlacing issues associated with 480i

Thanks for the review. I bought the Pound HD link cable a few days ago - video is nice, but sound is defective on my cable - I get no right channel, so I'm returning it. And it is sold out so I can't order it again right now. Oh well! I haven't found any other similar sound issues reported so I guess I got a rare defective one. (?)

Update, I later bought the Akura box and I'm very pleased with it. Colors and sharpness are , IMO, better on the Akura ever so slightly. I'd have been happy with the Pound cable though, had it worked correctly.

I am looking forward to hd retrovision DC cables. it supposedly has a switch between 480i mods and 480p. which is sweet. best of both worlds basically. Ill wait for a review first thou when they decide to be done.

I hear the ossc isn't very strong with VGA. IDK where i herd this. I don't know if this is correct. So with component cables the OSSC can do a better job right. I don't even own a OSSC so i can't tell you.

I cant get my Dreamcast to play on my Panasonic 58"using the Pound cable - it keeps automatically changing from 16.9 to 640x840 and cutting out :(

Brilliant video. I normally see videos of how friggin spectacular some cables are compared to others blahblah but i like seeing someone saying the truth. In this case, is the akura worth it bang for buck compared to the pound cable? No. Thats what i want to know. Even tho the akura makes it look spectacular, i can plug any console to my tv and upscale it with a framemeister but at 300$, unless you have lots of money and you are the most purist gamer ever, is wont be worth it. Thanks dude, love your channel. I always end up here when i look for info regarding my new purchases. You almost are my personal jesuschrist.

In the modded Xbox, are you using a bios that does 480p and up?

RetroGamerBB2019 Yeah its 480p and up. The cable worked but there would be distortions like horizontal at an angle lines scrolling through... Looked horrible. I didnt want to do a review on it as I was unsure if it was a cable issue or something to do with the modded Xbox.

Its the modded xbox.... When i use o.g. xbox with the pound cable no issue.... But when i use it with my modded xbox i get wierd distortion on the tv....sucks really

The Akura is the best solution, but it's damn delicate! It stopped working for me too, I asked for support and they sent me a new cable, but even this after so many times makes me see the lines, they increase and the console freezes, which doesn't happen with another HDMI cable.
