The way The Recording Academy has slept on Lana del Rey’s discography and visuals is so pathetically disappointing. This woman has 7-8 studio albums already and maybe not with the biggest sales in comparison with other singers but the quality, the lyricism, the sound, visuals… Damn! This woman is such an underrated treasure, WE DONT DESERVE YOU LANA! 👑

Lana is my favorite artist of the 2010 generation. She has been my favorite since then because no one sounds like her vocally and her songwriting is just stunning. She’s a true poet.

Ride is and always has been one of my favourite songs ever. The things I would do to forget about it and hear it for the first time again 😭😭😭

I always felt like this song was a metaphor for “just keep going”. When your mind is not at peace, you feel that conflict even more so when you’re stagnant. You shut down, and get lost in the battles with the different demons and traumas from your past. Most people go for walks, or go work out, to “let off some steam”, but this song just paints the picture of finding that release on the road. Maybe a car ride may do it for some, but the rush of the wind, the feeling of flying is incomparable. The various men in the video are also seeking the same release, an escape from whatever torments them. A chance to feel uninhibited, and not alone; be it anonymously with a lover, or in a crowd of others who create the safe-space for them to do so. Her melancholy and loneliness ultimately follow her with every man, every situation she found herself in, but these moments were a surge of electricity for her. Momentary, maybe, but always looking for more. In constant danger of finding more trouble. Risky, but thrilling. Crazy. The dichotomy of freedom and being tethered to the fight within us. For her, freedom is in those moments. On that bike. With those men. With those road dogs. In the open air, her issues gone with the wind. We all have our escapes, our releases. We all get tired of feeling fucking crazy. That’s why this song resonates. A reminder to just ride.

Lana is rare in this world and we are really lucky that we are born during her time 😍❤️

When I was still in active drug addiction, I was living from hotel to motel escorting to support my habit. This song resonated with me from very beginning to end. I have almost 3 years sober now but it's still one of my favorite songs and brings back a lot of memories.

There are a lot of autobiographical truths in the Ride video (albeit highly romanticized, which is probably Lana's greatest talent as a writer). However, I believe the biker scenario is meant to be more metaphorical than your friend interpreted it. Your interpretation nailed it on the head; Ride is about rejecting the mundane 9 to 5 lifestyle - sacrificing the financial, housing and various securities that come with 9 to 5s for total spiritual & artistic freedom. To "ride" means to explore, wander through life aimlessly but passionately, bask in the beauty of experience and freedom of possibility. Those who've submitted to 9 to 5s are parked - stable in life (a necessity for many) but missing out on the adventures of the "open road" as Lana would put it. I consider Ride to be of the top 3 greatest music videos of the 2010s. It was released when I was 17 and just beginning to enter the adult world, so it's message had a profound impact on the trajectory of my 20s and type of freedoms I value.

this is real, lana has talked about her past experiences and her road to fame pretty often, she is just a increbible poet for telling her story like this. is my fav video of all time

I got “just ride” tattooed on my arm and I see it every day of my life to remind me to just ride it out through any struggles I go through. I still get chills every time I listen to this song. Her 2019 album Norman f*cking Rockwell was nominated for Album of the year and unfortunately it didn't win (it was a big surprise because eveyone predicted it will win. It's a MUST listen album. You should do it in your own time. You won't be disappointed) She is named one of the most influential artists of 2010s. She was recently named Artist of the Decade by variety .

I recommend you a Spanish singer her name is Diana Navarro with the song "El perdón" she is a very versatile singer who sings different musical styles. This is a little off but I really connect with that "melancholy" mysteriousness that people point out about Lana. Like me, she's a Scorpio Rising & that's just our characteristic in the eyes of the beholder. We're quite shy, stoic, introverted, hold some pretty dark secrets, and we usually have transformed from a dark past. At the same time we'll put on a smile when surrounded by sweet people or if we're in a (rare) upbeat mood. Our souls are very deep, and can be very dark too. Another Scorpio rising singer that gives those vibes is Avril Lavigne.
