No punches pulled here. You can hear the genuine anger in his voice. There is another version with an entire Orchestra which is brilliant and has a funny extension at the end, but this is a much more raw and powerful one!

The term is Papist, he does use it in the song, and they believe that as the 'voice of God' the Pope can do no wrong. Now, this song was written in London early in the 2000s ish; there was a number of pedophile priests on trial publicly and the Pope at the time flew them out of London and into Vatican City so they could not be tried. THAT is, specifically, what he is singing about. But even so, he speaks truth, even to this day. (It might not have been early 2000s, might have been 2010 ish, I do not remember the date; not in UK, so I am only vaguely aware of the event.)

not only London, TH s happened in Australia, Germany, USA and every other country in which the catholic church is present and was investigated. We count more then 1000 victims in Germany alone, and that is only the number of csa, cases of children being abused by corporeal punishment (even though it was outlawed in the 70s to be used in schools) goes in the 30000.

Tim Minchin is amazing, and so talented. He wrote the music for the play Matilda, starred in the Andrew Lloyd Weber stage play of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas, and has so many other accolades. Definitely check out more of his music! To get a real sense of his brilliant piano skills, watch Dark Side (Awesome version). Other good ones are Storm, Thank You God, Rock n Roll Nerd, and his Christmas song White Wine in the Sun. If you like this topic, another band is Bloodywood, an Indian Folk Metal band. Their song Dana Dan is about stopping rape. Many of their songs tackle social and political issues, like bullying, oppression and suicide. Their music is definitely very heavy, and I recommend Closed Captioning when possible, especially for Dana Dan. If you decide ro check them out, you won't be disappointed! ❤

G'day mates, I'm really enjoying your discovery of Tim's work. Dark side has a great piano solo, thank you God is linguistic brilliance, storm is masterful storytelling and if I didn't have you is about his wife and has a special bonus insight into his personal life after the song. I would love to see you react to any of these and if perfectly honest, over time, all of them. Thanks for this one , thoroughly enjoyed it

Oddly, this song is not about religion. It’s about people who claim to be religious, but then act in ungodly ways.
@davebrown6552
@davebrown6552 6 месяцев назад
It is the primary selling points of the religion, you can do anything you like and as long as you 'believe' everything is forgiven. Many Christians try to add in extra hoops needs to be forgiven (not required for the thieves on the adjacent crosses) or invent purgatory (not mentioned in the bible) or all sorts of "well it would not include those crimes' but the basic hook is that we are all sinners and if you believe the slate is wiped clean, so even Mengele gets to swivel on god's right hand. It is really quite nauseating if you bother to think about it.

Yep be worse then Hitler & as long as you believe in god it's all good you will be forgiven... seriously messed up. If more people actually read the bible cover to cover their would be far more empty churches but many Christians just listen to what their priest/pastor/reverend tells them & I were guilty of that too as a child but then sat down & read the bible cover to cover & were shocked at some of the stuff in there

Tim Minchin is really good at cleverly choosing his words. It’s just that sometimes he cleverly chooses very straightforward words on matters to cut through to the heart of the matter. If you want something completely different, I’m fond of White Wine in the Sun. Also Storm is fun. And 15 Minutes. Most everything I’ve seen from him. Also there was a play of Jesus Christ Superstar with Tim as Judas, which was just brilliant casting

Well, this one just dropped in. I'm sorry I don't know your names but I love both your initial reactions to this. I don't know if you're in a relationship or are family but it's obvious you trust each other. The woman screen right obviously loved the iconoclasm, understood from hearing Tim's prejudiced song that he's going to play with expectations a little and he's going to go somewhere with it. A little cheeky smile, a glance across for reassurance. The bloke on the left has a fixed grin, not sure if this could just be a nutter, gives him the benefit of the doubt, then laughs as he clicks with the meaning. I've typed this as you do the first pause, OK, I didn't know you were Christian. I'm not, but we can find some common ground here. There are some of Tims songs that might challenge your beliefs a little more, but let's not go there now. You've got the idea of the song, this one is not attacking either Christianity (some of his do), or even the basic idea of faith (erm, yeah, he does that too) but as you say the idea that someone is beyond reproach. He's also obviously playing with the idea that has language is profane. Like the prejudiced song, he's exploring why we attach importance to certain words and how it controls how we think. Sorry for the rant, but you've made me want to see more of your stuff.

Love this one, blinding is a bit mad but I definitely think perpetrators of CA need putting in a medical facility. If they reform through therapy cool, let them go with high levels of surveillance, if they somehow manage/try to re-offend, life imprisonment. Gotta remember most offenders of this kind were abused themselves, so like a small amount of compassion is appropriate.

in this case he is talking about the catholic church, but it apples to any church you can name. they ALL have there scandals, and are often for the same crime. in my opinion he does not go far enough. he stats if you protect the rapist you are as guilty as they are. i say if you knowingly support the organization in question with time, money, showing up at the service, or any other way you are morally culpable for the crime. how do you prove it? start with the only acceptable stance the church can take is full cooperation with the authority. internal investigations and hand over the offenders when found even if the law is not onto them yet. can you call yourself a "true" christian (what ever that is) if you support the action, but find the action unethical by christian standards? in you are in your words defending them. also you cannot say this person or that person is not a christian because they do not believe what i do. by that reasoning all christians are good because anyone who is not good you will just say is not a "true" christian. each person gets to say if they are a part of a group or not. provided the group does not have membership requirements I.E. membership fee, or required beliefs, or the like. if a person makes the minimum requirements and states they are part of the group then they are. in come cases like membership fees the statement is not needed. as far as i know the only requirement ALL groups that are considered christian can agree on is you need to believe jesus christ is your savior. if you are catholic and tithe you are paying for there crimes, and this apply to any criminal organization, and yes this counts every denomination if christian i know of. fortunately most people in the world are better then there religion would have them be.
