s02e06: Like the Light by Which God Made the World Before He Made Light:
Claudia asks Louis for a life-changing favor after vigilantes attack Madeleine, forcing Claudia to make a decision. A betrayal leads to a trial.
Based on Anne Rice's iconic novel, follow Louis de Pointe's epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to the journalist Daniel Molloy.
Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror television series created by Rolin Jones for AMC, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Anne Rice. The series follows the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) who recounts his life with his maker Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and teenage vampire Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles) to veteran journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), accompanied by ancient vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). The series embraces the homosexual elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation of the novel. It is the first television series in Rice's Immortal Universe.
Interview with the Vampire received a series order in June 2021, after AMC Networks had purchased the rights to intellectual property encompassing 18 of Rice's novels, primarily The Vampire Chronicles, in 2020. The series was renewed for an eight-episode second season in September 2022, ahead of the premiere of its first season on October 2, 2022.
The first season received critical acclaim, with praise going towards the writing, tone, costumes, soundtrack, production values, performances (particularly those of Anderson and Reid), and chemistry between the two actors.
Adapted from Anne Rice's 1976 gothic horror novel Interview with the Vampire, the series centers on the life story of vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. An affluent black man in 1910s New Orleans, Louis is romanced and later made a vampire by the charismatic Lestat de Lioncourt. But the price of immortality is steep, and the relationship between Louis and Lestat is further complicated by the introduction of Lestat's newest fledgling, the teenage vampire Claudia.
Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac
Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
Bailey Bass (season 1)[a] and Delainey Hayles (season 2)[6] as Claudia
Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand[b]
Ben Daniels as Santiago (season 2)[7]
Recurring
Kalyne Coleman as Grace de Pointe du Lac, Louis's sister[8]
Rae Dawn Chong as Florence de Pointe du Lac, Louis's mother
Chris Stack as Thomas "Tom" Anderson, the owner of the Fair Play Saloon, an upscale brothel
Christian Robinson as Levi Freniere, Grace's new husband[9]
John DiMaggio as Alderman Fenwick, a businessman looking to take advantage of Louis
Jeff Pope as Finn O'Shea, one of Louis's enforcers
Dana Gourrier as Bricktop Williams, a prostitute who works for Louis
Maura Grace Athari as Antoinette, a blues singer who becomes romantically involved with Lestat[10]

I think the story is better if you assume that characters are not lying. Everyone is telling the story from their own perspective, and maybe embellishing a little, and maybe leaving some important context out, but they’re trying to be honest. Like in this episode, when Armand moves in with Louis, Louis asks him “you left the coven?”, and Armand responds with “they gave me a choice, I chose”. He’s not outright lying and saying he left the coven, he’s just letting Louis make the wrong assumption and not correcting him. I think real lies are few and far between in this show, and even these little lies of omission are immediately noticed and interrogated in the present. In Dubai, Louis calls Armand out on the omission, “that’s what you said to me, right?”. I don’t expect the show to make any of these characters totally untrustworthy, so don’t tie yourself into too many knots doubting every word. Just expect them to dance around topics that make them vulnerable. Except for RJ, that guy is up to something.

Talamasca is an age-old secret society that delves into paranormal activities involving vampires, werewolves, demons, mummies, and Mayfair Witches. They've sworn to strictly observe and never interfere with supernatural phenomena. They possess preternatural abilities such as telepathy, telekinesis, astral projection, and body swapping. Their first introduction is the companion series Ann Rice's Mayfair Witches Season 1 and in pre-production Ann Rice's Talamasca spin-off series.

Do you enjoy Mayfield? I've heard mixed to negative reactions and am hesitant to start it even though I know there's going to be a cinematic universe.

"Who is Louis?" is the biggest mystery of the show tbh. Even Louis himself has no answer to that question. One thing I know: he's unpredictable and can be easily driven by emotions, which makes him dangerous. I still love him though (even if his behaviour was shitty in this episode).

That's it right there!,🎯 Louis is the biggest enigma of the story. I can't figure out what he really wants, and it's both fascinating and frustrating. In a lot of ways it's like he's a bottomless hole, but he has the appearance of being the most functional compared to those around him (which makes him way more dangerous in my opinion). No one truly knows where they stand with him even when he has love for them. He can harm people emotionally and use them without even realizing that he's doing it!

Louis's been in a dom/sub relationship with Armand for some time now (as the dom). His Louis the Pimp persona definitely shines through this episode. This is also the version of Louis that attracted Lestat. I can understand the appeal. It's very hot 😳

The fact that we can never hold on to even a tiny bit of hope in this show before everything flips into chaos breaks my heart every time😢 Claudia and Madeleine shouldn't have come back... I definitely believe that Armand is still hiding a lot of what truly happened both in Paris and in San Francisco but I think part of it has to do with how volatile Louis can be. Their dynamic is such that Louis acts like the dom to feel like he's the one in control but it's up to Armand to play the role of the "cleaner" both physically and mentally to prevent Louis from going over the edge

Your reaction is priceless! And entirely understandable! 🤣 The sass and salt in this episode was everything, and to end with a shot of Lestat was the cherry on top! That abduction scene was CHILLING! There's NOTHING like this show on TV!! Love your enthusiasm!

Loved this episode. I love that we’re getting more of Raglan James. It was quite a nice Easter egg he dropped when he was talking to Daniel. I am just thrilled for next week. We get Lestat back in all of his dramatic glory! It’s going to be interesting to see how the things that were reported stolen in this episode is used in the next episode. So far there’s been no filler or throwaway dialogue so I think those mentions are going to be important.

So in regards to Armand talking to Lestat - agree that Louis wasn't hearing him. I don’t think he could as he's his maker. But I do think it's still Louis' perspective. Armand was telling him what Lestat was saying and the parts Armand didn't say out loud, Louis was imagining what Lestat was saying. But was Armand actually talking to Lestat? I don’t think we really know. That's what I think anyway. Rashid could be blocking Armand - Talamasca do have some skills. But I think Armand suspects definitely especially with the comments about the laptop. I love an unreliable narrator too. Its really fun watching someone react who doesn't have any knowledge of the story. Love your reactions- can't wait for the next one!

Lestat would be the victim, as far as the trial goes. Along with Antoinette, whome Claudia and Louis killed in season one. But this is more about the coven and their petty slites and jealousies. If this were about justice for violating vampire laws, Lestat would be on trial for making a child into a vampire.

I don't know if I trust Armand completely, but I want to believe him when he said he erased Louie's mind because Louis asked him to. Because it helps me make sense of the previous episode, specifically: Why would he obey Louis and spare Daniel's life if he intended to erase Louie's mind of the whole event anyway? That didn't make sense to me at the time, but if Louis told him to erase his mind later, then I can see it. It's clear that Armand can be cruel and manipulative, but he also seems to enjoy being subservient to Louis. He's had to be the alpha wolf of his pack for 500 years or so -- a role he's never enjoyed -- and now he wants someone to boss him around. Louis picked up on that and that's why he talks to Armand that way sometimes. That's my take anyway -- I don't know anything about dom/sub relationships in real life; I've picked it all up from media 🤷‍♂

Also wondering about a third season, and specifically: Will it have a new title? Because the original book -- and the interview -- ends pretty quickly after the events in Paris. Will they change the show's name to that of the next book? Heck, maybe there's another interview in the next book, I have no idea (I haven't read any of them past the first one, no spoilers please).

So, no spoilers. No real spoilers, but... To the "how are they still together" and "how did Louis forgive...". The answer to that is Armand, and most likely has to do with his mind gift, and why Louis doesn't properly even remember Paris and the theatre, and doesn't seem to remember a "fire"... but the why and how, will be revealed most likely in the season finale. Maybe this next episode, when Dubai inevitable implodes, but my money's on the finale... To the "why is Madeleine there, what the hell did she do", the answer to that is; nothing. But, unfortunately... She's a broken Vampire Law. It goes back to why Louis was so angry when he came home and she's just sitting in his coffin, reading Claudias diaries. Madeleine is there as a broken law, and physical proof of yet another "law" Claudia broke. So are her diaries. All is physical evidence of the many laws that Claudia broke, and Louis broke on behalf of Claudia. Now for Armand, you're definitely in the right headspace for him. Don't trust anything he says. At all. That is all about to come out too. Again, no actual spoilers, but just buckle up for the last two episodes 😉👌🏽

A couple of things keep sticking in my mind, one Armand's mention of doing the memory wipe to protect himself. This coupled with the warning to be more afraid of Louis, and then Armand's question if Louis is asking or making him. Not demanding, but making him. Like it's a power that Louis has.

Even though it's not official I think season 3 is inevitable. Also I think you'd be very very excited to see what it's about!! They just green lit a spin off called The Talamasca!!!...Also the showrunner of this show just extended his contract! Also I believe there are 13 books in The Vampire Chronicles series. Also I do not trust a word out of Armand now!! F**k him!

This is episode 6!! You just gave away episode 7!! Have some consideration is all I'm saying. Louis kills the entire coven and Armand banishes Lestat to an island. But Lestat shows up in Dubai and attacks Daniel. And turns him. And that's the season finale.
