I think one of the issues is that there's even more variance at the high school level in leagues and teams that at any other level. A guy that would be a superstar in Vermont or something might not even be a starter at one of those 6-A teams in Texas. You can even see the variance within the divisions of a state. I'm not saying that's always the case, but it's probably one of the contributing factors for some players achieving so much and then falling short at higher levels where the competition increases. I've also always suspected that, without the challenge of comparable players, really successful high school athletes in that position aren't properly prepared or trained for the competition they encounter once they move up. It's a real shock going from being able to muscle people around in high school to having to rely on knowledge and skill in college.

I went to school with Trey. I was a freshman when he was a junior. The whole team loved him because he was the go to guy, they’d give him the ball and he’d take it down field every time. The thing that wasn’t mentioned here concerning Trey and LSU was that the year before Trey graduated, LSU recruited Desean smith out of Barbe. He was a big receiver, 6’5 250. Les Miles even visited campus because he liked Desean so much. We all kinda felt like Trey flew under the radar after that, because Les already recruited Desean and Les was stubborn in that regard. Once Les found his star recruit at one school, he wasn’t going look at that same school a second time. There was also the size difference factor, Trey was faster but smaller than Desean at 6’0 185. LSU is one of those schools where they tend to favor bigger kids over smaller but faster kids. Trey ended up going to LSU anyway which we all loved. He’s one hell of a player.

This is typical since QB and WR are more co dependent on the talent around them. A top QB could go to a team where the receivers or scheme is vastly different from his high school, and likewise with a reciever as you proved in this vid. Not to say runningbacks don't suffer the same thing, but very much less so. At the end of the day if you can run, and have vision, you're gonna be pretty productive no matter where you are. Also fun fact, one of the guys on the rushing list, Kevin Parks Jr is one of my good friends, and my wife went to school with Tony Baker on that list.

Henry really is the exception in every category. Most exceptional HS players have their whole team structured around them. They’re the feature. Also they might benefit from a weak league or a down year by their main rivals. Then college usually sorts them out. Shows their true skills in a fair fight. Except if you’re Derrick Henry. Then you are the top RB in college too. Of course many college stars don’t pan out in the NFL for similar reasons. No longer pandered to, better competition… unless you’re Henry. Then you lead the league in yards for a month after you stop playing due to injury. It takes multiple games for the second best professional rusher to catch up. That’s insane. He’s unreal. He packed on 247lbs and ran a 4.54. Faster than this WR at 203lbs.

Best way I described high school, college, and NFL football levels. The talent level per team at the high school level could literally be day and night. Once a high school athlete goes and play ball in college. The talent and skill level really shows because the players are handpicked but then it comes down to the player selecting the school they want to play for to maximize their talent/skill and improve their skills and talents (Of course, not all schools are the same along with coaches). However, a players athleticism could be a factor at the collegiate level to help give them that draft boost to be a high pick. But once a player attempts to make their mark in the NFL, there's a huge difference in football knowledge/IQ, skill/talent as a player, team talent, head coach or position coaches, and organization that simply could crushes a player's dream of being an NFL star regardless of their stats at the collegiate level or high school recruit rating. Of course, we've seen players with rare talent and skill that come out of nowhere in the NFL level due to being signed by an organization with a competent head coach and front office that could build up a player and turn them into an NFL superstar. At the same time, we've seen countless of players that are talented as of means of skill/football IQ/and etc, but they were undervalued by NFL scouts (Take Tom Brady for example or Cooper Kupp (Eastern Washington), Adam Thielen (Minnesota State), Julian Edelman (Kent State), Khalil Mack (Buffalo), Antonio Brown (Central Michigan University), Kurt Warner (Northern Iowa), Tony Romo (Eastern Illinois), Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois), and the list goes on and on. We've also seen very talented and skillful players at the NFL level but were on a terrible team with a terrible organization (Lions, Dolphins, Jaguars, and Washington (I'm sure you could name others but these are my worse of the worse teams with a terrible organization front office and team owner without adding in their head coaches)). It's difficult when scouting a player for a number of reason to be honest and fair since you have to factor in a number of things such as the division they played in, the talent their team had during their time playing at the colligate level, the talent they faced, and etc. But just because a player's path to the NFL isn't the usual playing at a top D1 school, there's always talent that will surprise scouts, teams, and fans when it shows on the field when given the chance. At the same time, there's talented players that waste it all away (Josh Gordon), and there were players that straight up were a disaster from the start that were drafted high during the draft (Roberto Aguayo, Justin Blackmon, JaMarcus Russell, and the list goes on and on).

This is a prime example of how bad coaching, can affect a players career. Just imagine how much HS talent is wasted because bad coaches move players to other positions or just don’t like the players style for their schemes

Alot of extremely talented high school players are never even looked at. High school coaches play a big part in getting players recruited. If you have a high school coach that doesn't care, an amazing player will not be looked at by any d1 schools. Yet I've seen great high school coaches get d1, and even big school scholarships for their soso players.

I recently picked Madden 20 back up for a Washington franchise and didn’t know about his high school career until now but I’m happy to at least say I brought him some of the nfl production he never actually got as my backup slot guy. Still had to drop him after yr 2 tho, that 40 time really hurt his speed stat

The 40 times were different because one was hand time and the other was a laser. Hand time you have to add .24 to the clock. Essentially making it the same time
