How I fixed the Headliner in my wife's 2006 Honda Civic for $40. Bought the foam-backed headliner material on eBay for $26 shipped, and the adhesive for about $18 on Amazon, shipped.
I like that you included the problem with the gluing. Troubleshooting problems or advising how to avoid them is where the real value is for these kinds of videos.
Good job came out nice. If you wanted to save even more money you could have removed the old headliner as you did and brush off the residue and then just plasti dip it and be done for like $20. It would look great and never start to fall down because the upholstery is what comes apart and the plasti dip is sprayed directly onto the headliner itself.
A few tips: 1. Make sure to glue and smoothen properly, do not, I repeat do not put the fabric on the glue in one instance. Go slow and make sure you do not have any folds or wrinkles. I have a wrinkle and it ruins the whole look. Trust me, be careful as that glue will not give you any room to remove and re-install. 2. The B pillars, between two doors, are easy to move if ya need, just pull the two panels back to form a triangle. They will unhinge and the top grey one will fall, later when reinstalling form a triangle and just put them from the vertex straight back in (make sure hinges are aligned). 3. The lights will not turn on when the screws are taken off so.. don't worry! 4. Make sure you clean the old headliner COMPLETELY! It is really dirty, I found a rag and your bare hands can work (for mine at least) 5. The headliner is made of foam so be careful when getting it out of the car, also there will be wires connected with tape at the top un-tape it and you can always re-tape later (the wires are for the lights) 6. When cutting holes for handles and stuff make sure you make the holes big enough almost as big as the whole since you need to get the screws and bolts through. Leave a like if this helps!
My problem is that the clips and clip mounts break off. And, none of the clips want to line up when pounding the trim back in, breaking off more of them.
I'll be honest with you. I replaced the liner when I bought the car used. Now after the hot sun, and 6 years, it's sagging again. But this time... FK the liner, am gonna just paint it with plastic paints or something heavy duty. Liner will just keep wasting away!! The dumbest thing the car industry invented. CARPET ON THE CEILING??
Hey bro or anybody else if you spray it on the hard surface and then spray also on the foam. It will bond better. All you need to do is spray both surfaces wait 5 minutes and it will be good. I use this technique to make costumes. It works great.
nice job...I get the impression some makes/models have different 'ceilings'. I have an older Mercedes and I believe it's just fabric that attaches, unlike yours which has the ceiling molding that the headliner attaches to. Anyway, I was impressed with your pretty positive attitude during the whole affair...and it looks pretty damn good...thx for taking the time
I just called around here for a headliner job. The guy I previously used has retired; he charged $275 in the summer of 2020. Now in 2021 when I called around they were saying 3 MONTHS waiting list and a minimum cost of $500. So it looks like I'm doing it myself, instead of paying the arrogant thieves around here.
Thank you for this. Yours is the most practical, realistic video I've seen on this (very common) problem. Further to your video I am going to use your exact approach. Just looking up materials now. Best of luck with the videos :)
My cat is looking around with his mouth slightly open..biting its own back..walking..now biting its own back again. Meowing now. Running now..scratching his neck with back leg..Hissing.. biting his back again.. The fleas talking in your video is Meth for Cats!
not bad it looks nice.and it cost you only 40$. i want to change the headliner of my honda accord next week.it will cost me 150 $ at a proffessional store.i hope it will look like new. i think you did a good job. bravo.
Pretty good to me . I'm Doing My Honda Ridgeline as we speak Hey compare to a saggy headliner its 10* better and about the price here in Atlanta its $ 250-350 for mobile headliner repair man charge .
Setup an appointment with me for just installation and I’ll be with you for help and I’ll pay you 100$ cash, I have Toyota Yaris hatchback it has aftermarket sunroof
Mine seems like it isn’t sticking like it should and I waited 10 mins for it to dry. Doesn’t look like it’s taking the form of the actual headliner either, any tips or I’m doing fine...
Sounds like you let it sit for too long. That stuff is really sticky, and should have no issues with it binding. But if you waited 10 minutes, it probably dried.
I appreciate the offer, but no thank you. I’m pretty sure there are a lot of people who do it pretty cheap though, in the area. They’ll come to your house and everything! I think it’s about $100-150.
Cliff's How To Channel I just saw this video and did the exact same thing to remove the headliner on my civic si and it was a peace of cake.. Thanks bro.
+sambking that is a personal question you have to decide for yourself. Of course, if you are very busy, and make very good money, it would be worth it to to just pay someone. Not everyone is as fortunate.
sambking if you have ever worked on anything on your car or anything in your life yourself.. it's not about the money it's really about the rewarding feeling you get when you're done. You shouldn't be watching these DIY videos if going want to make comments like that.
