www.EkhartYoga.com Esther Ekhart shows us a safe and easy way into the headstand.Try this pose after doing the warming up in the previous video. Do it under the guidance of a teacher the first time :-) Just to make sure your alignment is good. Its always ok to try this against a wall, making sure there is NO WEIGHT on the head, all in the arms! So you cannot harm your neck due to alignment issues if you are not sure. Have fun trying...

That's the best tutorial I have seen on youtube for a headstand. Good job

If you are doing this pose as a beginner it is wise to do this pose under the supervision of a yoga instructor. There are some risks of injury to your neck etc. so it's better to be safe than sorry! :)

This was the clearest explanation of how to correctly perform the headstand that I've seen. Your positioning of the hands and shoulder-width was simple, concise, and so easy to understand. Thank you!

Hi, i could always do the headstand with the hands but never with the forearms resting, i failed miserably every time-until i found this video! I managed to do it first time :) I just want to say thank you for being such a great teacher, I am a new subscriber and following yoga daily now with your excellent tutorials. You are definitely the best yoga teacher I have come across on youtube.

I've never managed to lift my legs up or feel like I am even a hint of a bit in shoulderstand and I just did it! THANK YOU! xxx

I did gymnastics when I was younger, and the headstand was my favourite practice! However, I have never seen the headstand performed with the forearms instead of the hands! It looks so much more elegant...

I figured as much, lol ;-) Congrats on having learnt how to do the handstand, by the way =) I only managed to do it one or twice when I was a child/teenager, and haven't done it ever since. It took me some time to get it, too, since I'm really tall and I was afraid to take enough impulse. Now I'm trying to learn it again, but it's harder this time because I'm even taller than before, lol :P I still need a lot more of upper body strength, though...

@deaXmachina No, its not. A few points of caution: inversions such as headstands are contraindicated for those with glaucoma, detached retina, orthostatic hypotension and any other condition exacerbated by positioning the head below the heart. In addition, patients with significant cervical pathology should not bear weight on the head.

my, my darling you make it look easy. to think that I've charged and then retreated from doing it, even with the support of the wall. I like the "smile" comment when you were on the headstand pose. :)

@Camelia361 Hi Camelia, that doesn't sound right. It could be an alignment issue . However the next time you try, try it with a life teacher to make sure you are doing it right. Your body tells you it doesn't like it, you should listen! Take care,

I just started trying the headstand but I can only do it if I push my leg up while extending the other. I can't slowly lift both legs. Does it mean I am doing something wrong?

my question is, do i have to give all the body pressure on my head top during this posture?

Is this posture suitable for people with hypotension (abnormally low blood pressure)?

Are you talking about the HANDstand? :? There's a reason why this pose is called HEADstand =) I find the headstand easier than the handstand. I can do the headstand just fine, but the handstand requires more strength in the arms and shoulders... I'm working on it, though =)
