Could you do an episode like this on dentistry? And generally how to care for your teeth? Maybe the dentist who was in Michael Aranda's vlogs a while back would do it.

I'd love to see videos on how to choose a healthcare plan, as well as how to find a doctor (both PCP and specialist). Both are extra complicated for me by my many, many health issues, but honestly they're hard even if you're mostly healthy.

Also, specific to anybody who has chronic health issues: how do I talk to my doctor about my health things because I feel like I'm scaring them?? (this is mostly an issue with new doctors)

Writing a list really does help. It's how my doctors figured out that my symptoms weren't all from one illness, but multiple. If you've already been diagnosed, then you really should just talk to them straight about it. Most doctors would be more fascinated than afraid, especially if it's a rare chronic illness. I feel like I'm being gawked at more than being offputting lol.

Seeing the same pcp as my mom, older sister, aunt, cousin, and grandma saved me a lot of health pain by noticing the symptoms of hashimoto's disease really really early because he treated it in like five of my older female family members who all got it at the same age. This is the sort of thing that DOES do a lot of good to find it sooner, so...... Lucky me!

Going in for a routine yearly check up sounds so weird to me. I have so many health things, from my mental health to now dealing with Crohn's and other chronic pain stuff that I almost always have something to talk to my doc about and almost feel weird if I don't have an appointment lined up. For instance, this past summer it took 3 different appointments over the span of 1 1/2 months just to go through all the issues I was experiencing at that moment. Thank goodness I live in Canada, and found a wonderful gp last year.

Get a primary doctor. Seriously. Everyone needs a doctor. Especially if you live in a big city. Got a doctor in Seattle, the next day sliced my finger open in cooking school. Having a doctor saved me from going to Harborview which would have been fine, but Harborview is a level 5 trauma center. Great for gun shot wounds not so much for 4 stitches.

In Norway everyone has a primary doktor, I go to the doctor probably 15 times a year for various reasons.

"I wish I knew how how much doctors guess." That is switch doctors to adults and that is the number one "How to Adult" lesson.

I freaked out for over half the video thinking the "Hang in there" poster in the back was someone on a noose. Small screens will be the death of me.

I haven't seen a doctor in over a decade, excluding emergency room visit for stitching myself shut once or twice.

Here's hoping I can just stay 23 forever on my parents insurance so I don't have to directly deal with the mess that is healthcare in America right now. Hopefully by the time I'm 26 trying to find affordable healthcare will be less ridiculous?

I'm in Canada and basically no one I know has a doctor, unless they've lived in the province their whole life. There is a huge wait list for them here and people survive off walk ins and hospitals. We have free health care though, yay? Do Americans have to pay to see a doctor or something?
@AlthenaLuna

Yes, and it can be a lot of money, even for "routine checkups".

B Long I work front office in a walk in urgent care clinic and verify insurance all day, every day. Some people can see the doctor for free, some people may have to pay $125 or more, depending if they get labs done. We have to turn people away if they can’t pay their co-pay. People abuse our healthcare system, though. People who don’t have a co-pay will go in just to get a dr note to get off work for a few days. We need a better system and people need to quit abusing it. My supervisor and I were talking about Canada’s health insurance a few days ago. A year paid maternity leave! We only get 6 weeks. I want to move to Canada, seriously. I’m from Georgia and hate the weather here.

B Long what if you are American and visiting the country or living there & trying to become a citizen? How would that work?

I got really sick last year and went to the doctor because I was getting scared, the bill was 192 with a low income discount.

Sadly, all my company offers, that is affordable, is catastrophic insurance. Single payer would have been nice.
