Beans is the one common denominator among all the blue zones. Blue zones are a term for areas where people seem to generally live longer lives than other parts of the world. What is one of all the things beans are rich in? -Water-soluble/soluble fiber (which aids removal of toxins) We all live in some form of toxic environment. For example an old poison like DDT is still floating around (long half life). DDT and other dangerous chemicals are also being used in some places with weak hazardous chemical regulations. I recommend checking out Grant Genereux and his three free ebooks and Dr. Garrett Smith (The Nutrition Detective). You could also search PubMed for the term "soluble fiber decrease mortality". Soluble fiber has been shown to lower overall mortality (mortality from all causes).

Thank you for this lecture. 2 years ago my mom was diagnose with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The family doctor gave her medication for the high blood pressure and suggested her to go on a low fat diet (no red meat, butter, processed meat or dairy products). She had her blood tested after 3 months and the cholesterol was way better, almost normal. After few months she went back to her old diet (she really likes cheese and dairy products) and the cholesterol went up again. I'm seeing almost everyone over the age of 50 taking medication for high blood pressure and/or cholesterol and everyone seems just fine with that; almost no one talks about changing the diet or adopting a healhtier lifestyle. I think this is crazy. Oh, and i'm not from the US, I'm from Italy.

My grandma and grandpa lived well into their 90's and ate meat regularly. They did not OVER-CONSUME. They ate moderately. They would also eat cakes and pies that my grandma baked. Again, they didn't over-consume. They also ate a lot of fish, tomatoes, vegetables and fruits that my grandma grew in her garden (peaches and rhubarb). Also, lots of spices and herbs some of which she grew. Lots of sauerkraut, cabbage, garlic and onions --- often raw. Grandpa liked to eat raw garlic in kosher salt. He liked to eat sardines right from the tin along with a shot of cold vodka. Grandma liked red wine and sherry. She enjoyed eating pickled pigs feet from a jar ----OFTEN! Her most favorite snack. (Yeeecchh!). They would eat fried eggs (chicken eggs), oatmeal and dark coffee with cream at almost every breakfast, sometimes with bacon. Gramps did smoke ciggies until age 70 then gave it up for good on the advice of his doctor (he was not a heavy smoker). And he still lived another 22 Years!varicose

The main problem with most 'studies' is that there are TOO many VARIABLES not taken in to account. To properly test the relationship between meat and cancer the subject would eat meat only and water - nothing else, but that's not all, what KIND of meat - freerange or grain-fed, etc.

Recommended sample menu includes pizza (crust), minestrone, pasta, cereal, "crusty" bread, and then a few slides later, the presentation recommended that "white" flour be avoided. Whole grain is predominantly white flour with a relatively small amounts of bran, germ and endosperms left in. If I sprinkle a little wheat germ and bran on a bacon cheese burger, does that magically transform it into a food worthy of being on the recommended list vs the avoid list? If a little wheat germ and bran can perform such powerful alchemy, why not supplement every meal with wheat germ and bran? Recommended sample menu included soy, (highly processed, high omega 6) faux sausage, lectin rich foods, copious amounts "white floor" (with accompanying germ and bran left in), and suggested use of off the shelf (high omega 6, high sugar) pizza sauce. It's hard to swallow these as healthy choices. There was no mention of avoiding the "dirty dozen" (of pesticide/ herbicide laden produce), and using organic produce as much as one can afford. Berries in particular are one the the healthiest foods if organic, and one of the unhealthiest if non organic and doused with a plethora of pesticides (which cannot be rinsed off). There are other nutrition plans on the "interwebs" that recommend avoiding soy, peanuts, corn, and gluten containing grains, in addition to the sweeteners, eggs, and dairy you recommend avoiding. The science based rationale of avoiding these include leaky gut, glyphosate soaked GMOs, aflatoxins, phytoestrogens, inflammation, and (sometimes subtle) digestive problems and allergic reactions. The presentation recommended "nuts and seeds" but the healthiness of "nuts and seeds" is wide ranging, and some should probably be avoided. There was no mention of using EVO (with some ACV) on salads. I guessing that is not encouraged? I thought a bit of fat helps the body absorb the nutrients in a salad. Perhaps some nut butter can be used as a dressing? Or just lemon juice? I'm perplexed how a person with insulin resistance who is trying to lose weight could eat grains three times a day (as outlined in the sample menu) and not suffer elevated blood sugar and elevated A1c, along with cravings, post meal crashes, and constant hunger. Is there a WFPB diet plan that explicitly omits gluten, soy, lectins, GMOs, dirty dozen vegs, and provides sufficient B12, omega 3, protein, and prevents insulin spikes? Thanks in advance.

Of course, now, garbage and meat is cheap because it’s subsidized by corrupt governments run by pharmaceutical and oil companies (often the same people own both). We have a ruling elite that does not want a healthy, thinking society. They want stupid, fat and lazy people to make them trillions of dollars by using their damaging drugs. Learning to listen to ones own body’s needs and dislikes and responding to it is super important as well.

I’m always wary of statistics used to promote one diet over another. They usually compare extremes and are so generalised that it’s difficult to really know what’s best for you as an individual. Personally I feel better when I eat a little meat as well as the vegetables, nuts and ancient grains, and of course some exercise. The best advice is to listen to your own body. Some people don’t do well on a lot of things that are supposed to be good generally speaking. I was allergic to a lot of vegetables once. I don’t know anyone else who is intolerant to iceberg lettuce. Now I can eat most things. I’m healthy and happy. I don’t run marathons, but I don’t need to. I knew someone who died after a relatively short run, and a family member who died young despite being a vegetarian for 50 years. Best advice is to listen to your body, don’t eat junk ( if man made it don’t eat it - including genetically modified stuff) and keep moving. If you really like milk and don’t like almond milk or soy I’ve discovered a really great coconut milk called COCOSOUL organic. It’s the only one I like.

She speaks the truth . Her studies are solid. Wow allergic to iceberg lettuce. Did you do a test? Never heard of it. I didn’t get tested for it. I m allergic to cow and goat milk. I thought I had allergies to certain foods. Someone said I might be reacting to whatever was on the vegetables so I clean them w a veggie wash. No more reactions, should have been doing it anyway. I do this and my mind body and mood are wonderful. It’s working and I love it I know a little of foods off this won’t kill me. I have to taste my mother’s food. She doesn’t get it. Wish she did. Her cholesterol is so high.

I am quite convinced that going low fat whole food vegan is very healthy -- but for many it will be enough to go close in that direction - and better to start walking toward a healthy life style than not walking at all. And by the way Its very important to find ways to make it tasty - I will try to find cocosoul organic ( I have never heard of it before )

Yes, her claims are so out there and outside mainstream medical philosophy, it makes me wary. I know there's also research that shows vegans and vegetarians don't live longer or are healthier than health-conscious meat eaters. And you're right. We can drop dead of something completely unexpected tomorrow. A little joy, especially the simple pleasure of enjoying what we eat, goes a long way to living a fulfilling life.

+intuitiveworker but if the fast food companies keep up this whole charade then eventually they won't have any customers anyway because they'll all have developed cancer/alzheimer's/other diet related diseases, and become disabled/unable to get to/remember where the fast food places are/dead! just feel lucky that we know this info, tell as many people as you can and hopefully people can control themselves enough so that future generations wont have to deal with parents/elders with alzheimer's/dementia/heart attacks/etc! Like she said she doesn't want her daughter to have to see her mom have cancer or alzheimer's! So we should be asking that question "Do i care enough about my kids/future generations that i'm willing to stay healthy, even though it might be difficult at first, so they don't have to see me die of cancer or not be able to remember their name?" "will they have a parent able/well enough to be able to walk them down the isle or meet their baby, aka my grandchild or great grandchild or a great niece or nephew! Like I wanted from my own parents/grandparents" I realize not everyone knows their parents/grandparents but most at least had someone who cared for them, a friend, other relative, or foster parent etc and especially if you have kids of your own you have to know that there is someone out there who loves you and wants you around and healthy and even if someone thinks they don't have anyone in their life right now who cares about them it's not an indication that it will always be like that for as long as they live! So everyone has a reason to live and be healthy! So lets just do it! Personally i don't even like to see, or hear of strangers having to suffer!!

@jeff lebowski a post right above this one which i can't directly reply back at?! he said "Aflatoxin is produced by certain fungi, it is not naturally occurring in meat or dairy. Aflatoxin can contaminate grains which animals eat." which i just want to point out that his comment might be true but is irrelevant and i have to wonder if he watched the entire presentation? because she talks about how in dr campbell's studies with the rats it was NOT the aflatoxin that produced cancer, it was just the animal proteins, and in fact he was able to increase the carcinogen aflatoxin with NO ill effect on the rats when they DID NOT have the extra animal protein, so i'd like to know what the point of this comment is and why there were 2 thumbs up for it too?! Seems to me he's trying to come up with ANY excuse even if it makes no sense just to keep eating meat....js

Yes we have mostly cut red meat from our diets. We might have a small amount once a month. Because it's found that it's the red meat that is the problem. Making your meals with mostly vegetables beans grains and starches a small amount of meat.

Wow! VERY interesting and important. I've been vegan for some years, but unhealthy (eating alot of sugar, processed food, too much soy products) so I tried keto for a while to loose weight. My stomach got CRAZY. Not right away but gradually bad. And other health concerns got worse. So I realized now with this lecture the importance of eating a WHOLE FOOD healthy vegan diet and stay away from all the vegan junk foods and snacks. That's all fine in the beginning in the transition, but not anymore! The only thing I hate to stop eating again is cheese. And there is two ways of doing it: 1. A smart dietist said that eating 75% right and 25% "bad" is good enough. Maybe that should be 95/5%. This can work in a transition period. 2. I used to think like this: I'm not giving up cheese forever. IF I really want it I can have some, but it should be of the best quality and a special occasion. That helped me to not eat cheese for three years and I can try it again. After a while it becomes natural to not eat it. 3. Now when I went back to cheese again I got CRAZY with it. I've indulged in expensive cheese. And I became very constipated and bloated. I can see now how hard it is to eat a little. It's like she said; a drug. Goodbye lovely parmesan, chèvre, feta, 30 month cultured Västerbotten...

the only whole foods is a meat based diet.... plants, that is just living off of stored muscle mass and stored vitamins in the liver because the proof is you can't build muscle with plants, that are pretty much just sugar or fibre (since ALL plants store energy as sugar) what you think plant protein is? it's a nitrogen conversion factor ,A Factor by which nitrogen content of a foodstuff is multiplied to determine the protein content Nothing but MAN MADE NUMBERS on a screen.... I could claim grass is healthy because it has 8 grams of protein "content" by using MAN MADE NUMBERS on a screen i can use a conversion factor to come up with the the man made digits on a screen ..... the bottom line humans don't have a fermentation chamber so plants are not even digestible ...PERIOD.

Hi there, Abstinence (self-control), exercise, fresh air, nutrition, rest, trust in GOD, and water, are the 8 Laws, which if adhered to by mankind (created for mankind by the GODHEAD), will result in good health. I would recommend opting for an organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (preferably raw so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities) and make sure to include plant foods that look like the organ one may be experiencing difficulty with, for instance, an organic walnut and pecan (looks like the brain and targets it e.g contains Omega 3 Fatty Acids beneficial for the brain, but not to eat too many); a carrot (looks like the eye when cut and targets the eye); a tomato (looks like the heart when cut and targets the heart); celery stalk (looks like bones and targets them); an artichoke (looks like a hip and targets it); a grape (looks like a cell and targets the lymphatic system); and so on and so forth. The discarding of flesh meats is recommended due to disease on the rise in animals e.g mad cow disease and tuberculosis. Best wishes 💙💙💙

I also have seen vegans look older than I would assume for their age and I think it has to do with missing nutrients they may get from some animal product. That being said, it’s just speculation I don’t know if it’s got anything to do with pure plant base diet. I think less animal products though would be more beneficial over all. I’ll keep researching

Heres the thing. If you eat a plant-based diet you're eating an overall significant amount of less calories and less sugar. Those studies of people eating meat more than likely we're also eating a lot of sugar and carbs along with the meat. So then the question is is it the plants or is it the overall less calories and less sugar that are making you better? Because I know plenty of healthy people on keto diet that eat meat regularly but don't consume a lot of sugar and carbs and don't have any bad cholesterol or other negative markers.

Thank-you so much, Dr Katherine! Excellent lecture!! Today, 6 years later, while covid19 is raging, diseases, depression, and obesity rising, and Climate Change destroying our planet, a WHOLE FOOD PLANT BASED DIET is more important than ever!!) I am so grateful for this presentation, and I shall share it with my family, friends, and community!)

I am more like a clean keto patient with very little red meat in my diet as I am colon cancer survivor and my colon doesn’t like red meat! I love this video and I couldn’t never be only vegetarian although I see the power on it. Keto save my life but I think after 2 years that a better way to eat is to fine balance. For example 70%+ vegetarian and 30% - animal protein, organic ideal, no soja, No dairy products, little carbohydrates because it cause inflammation and is full of sugar, no process food, exercise is a must, no GMO, avoid sugar as much possible and I think our blood test will proof better health overall.

Thank you, you are so motivating, energetic and funny! I started today the vegan diet, how irresponseble wait till 53 to finally understand...and I'm still struggeling with smoke, a lot of other bad addictions...Time to take control of my brain, I've trhown away most of my life in a limbo
