On 30 March 2003, two F-16s from Alabama ANG took off from Jordan during Operation Iraqi Freedom to do another (almost certainly) uneventful SCUD hunting mission in Western Iraq. The weather was terrible and they had no luck finding targets. But as their mission was approaching the end, they received instructions to aid a special ops team on the ground which was completely surrounded by Iraqi Army and Fedayeen forces. After hearing panicking voice of the British Special Boat Service radio operator asking for their help, Major Ned Linch and his wingman, Brian Wolf knew they had to do something. Their main problem was terrible visibility due to low overcast and sandstorm.
