Probably the greatest female rock singer, performing their best song. This was a real rock band. Unbelievable performance and vocal range from Ann Wilson. She was truly unmatched. A real legendary band.
I have seen Heart multiple times over the decades. They are not just among the greatest women rockers of all time... They are among the greatest ROCKERS of all time. Thanks for all your great work Ladies! You are a national treasure.
I was stationed at Ft. Hood Texas when this concert happened. Me and a couple buddies in my platoon went to Dallas and saw this. I was 19 years old and we paid something like 12 or 15 dollars for a ticket. WHAT !!! There was some heavy hitters: Van Halen Eddie Money Atlanta Rhythm Section Head East Journey Heart Ted Nugent Aerosmith In my opinion, Heart stole the show. They were incredible !!!
My mom always talks about how she went to every single one since they started. I can’t remember who it was, but on one of these videos she saw herself. The back of her. She was on her then boyfriend’s shoulders. She said she always got there super early to get in the front. She told me about how she saw Bowie in Dallas in 1978. Went to some bar called the candy something or other,( I can’t remember)with him. (Ashamed to say she was a groupie) lol. Had bright deep red hair. Stuck out like a sore thumb! I was born too late. 93, wish it was 53 or 63
I met Nancy the day of their first show in Rochester. I worked for the venue and was talking with a couple roadies I knew from previous bands they had worked. Nancy came in with a guitar she had just gotten from House of Guitars that she wanted her techie to check out. She sat and talked a little while and I thought what a pleasant lady. She asked what bands had played the arena that year, did I get to meet them, what’s Lou Graham like (he’s from Rochester area). I told her I thought the intro to Crazy was incredible and I couldn’t wait to see them do it live. It was just a cool half hour or so. That night I was on the floor at stage right when they started the song. She strutted around as usual ripping out the soul of that guitar. Then the pause. She looked right at me, smiled and high kicked that song into outer space!!!! I doubt she’d even remember but I doubt I can ever forget. I get the nearly same rush when I see that kick today as I did then. Thank you Nancy
Not even. Impossible to imagine. She brings so much deep power. She's the rumbling earth, the crashing waves, and Nancy is burning sun, the piercing wind. These sisters are a force.
Ann, Roger, and Steve didn't exactly set the world on fire as a group. Mike Flicker, their producer, didn't think they were anything special until Nancy joined. Fact.
I was born in 1974. I've spent that last thirty years slowly tracking down music like this, from the 1950's to the 1980's. I'm mostly a Metal Head, but this stuff is just too good!
Ha! I always say that when I think about the prospect of getting old. I wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world. No computers, cellphones - people actually were spontaneous and looked each other in the eyes and had engaging conversations without the constant distractions. And of course, a plethora of great music. Kids who are glued to their screens don't know how we existed before the smart phone!
Soooo agree..just watches the stairway to heaven performance at Kennedy center aga 6:57 in. An incredible performance by duo still at the top of their game
Uh...I was a huge fan of the band back then. Loved Nancy...but ADORED Ann! OMG I was so obsessed with her I even had a girlfriend at the time who looked a lot like Ann! Those were good times but that's all long in the past now...
Was I the only 16-yr old watching this in '78, pretending I was hitting Ann's powerful notes while at the same time strutting around like Nancy, pounding that guitar while my long wild hair blew out of control?! 🤣 They were tough firebrand rockers and we'd never seen anything like them before. An indelible memory!
Amen to that! Undoubtedly the best vocals and greatest solo on acoustic guitar, Nancy is and was the greatest female guitarist to walk the earth and will never be beat, at least that's my opinion!
How good a rock vocalist/goddess was Ann Wilson? I'd put her in my top 5 without having to think about it. And yeah, sister Nancy was pretty good with that guitar too.
When I was 18 in 1979, I would sing this so loud in our living room when nobody was home..Heart..... awwww.... I'm 58 now and this song takes me back.Beautiful group.
Eileen Sianez you weren't alone ......except I really didn't have vocal prowess like Annie. I'm 58 yrs young too girl,I still love Heart. Ann has her own YT channel I don't know about Nancy ....in case your interested.❤️❤️
Oh how I would have loved to have ever had the opportunity to be on stage with them getting lost In the music. What a great feeling that must have been. There confidence Is amazing.
Absolutely! There are many other terrific female voices, but no one has the range and versatility of Ann! And I know it's subjective, but I really think Ann is underrated. I'll take her hands down over Janice, Stevie, and Pat. The only one who comes close in my mind is Grace.
Love this video, Nancy Wilson incredible guitarist. I’m 14 and heart is one of my favorite bands to kick back and play some darts with my grandpa. And the intro to Crazy on you has to be one of my favorites ever! Long live Rock
I took my oldest son to his first show as an early 14th birthday present. He later told me it was the best present ever. We saw Three Day's Grace with Adam, Breaking Ben and Seether. He's now 30 and we still go see shows together. You're never too young to listen to great music and this is timeless. ❤😊 I will go until they plant me 😂
Love those harmonics! Impressive how she makes a guitar sound like a damm piano! 😮😮 Back when you actually had to play.. 😅😅 Feel sorry for todays music in general..
I love how everything is dark when nancy plays the intro and everyone appears out of nowhere when everything starts showing the spotlight on them. CHILLS
God, I didn't pay attention to the lyrics before. But this song is a real poem. Some of the most beautiful lyrics I heard. Add this to Nancy's opening, Roger fisher's, the guitar riffs, and Ann's powerful and tender vocals, and you have, in my opinion, one of the greatest Rock songs ever.
@@mlhowe67 Yes, for those of us who grew up in, and closely followed (age-wise) that era, the reference was well understood. Sadly, the reference holds true, generation after generation and war after war. However, the desire to put death aside, forget for the moment and make love, with tender ferocity, is a human trait and a lovely way to reclaim life...and possibly create it. Decades ago (I'm old) two women friends confessed that the death of parent/in-law led to "increased activity" with their spouses, resulting in the birth of their first child. "You kept me alive with your sweet flowing love", in my friends' cases would have been "We made new life with our sweet flowing love". Whatever, one of my favorite songs and performances!
Yes, this and Magic Man were the sound track to my coming of age. If you know what I mean 😅 This was the best Iine-up of the band imho. Fisher, Leese, Desrosier, the iconic Wilson sisters. No one did it better. I'm gIad I got to see them in the 80's at the Garden State Arts Center in Jersey. A friend was working backstage and got us tickets. Fantastic show. Cheap Trick opened for them, and I love Cheap Trick but Heart bIew them away. Hands down. These songs take me back to my teenage years and great memories with good friends. ❤
Nancy Wilson being an complete BADASS here. Playing her intro like a BOSS, perfectly navigating the ebb and flow between fanciful beauty and powerful aggression, before launching the band attack like an absolute BEAST ..Kickass. 🤘
Yea he is a great guitarist ! He was in a bad position in the band ! Drummer and he both liked Nancy . No win situation! You get all them emotions going and I guess I can see where he wigged out ! The original band was dynamic though!!! Love Heart !!!
AbsoIuteIy, Fisher & Howard Leese, they all added to the band and this was the best line up by far. Great sound, creativity and they could rock !! With the Wilson sisters up front, they were the total package.
Anne Wilson's voice in this recording is sublime, and Nancy's guitar playing is as well. The backing players and vocals are also awesome. Just an incredible performance.
Nancy was a phenom. I mean we are talking about the 1970s of zeppelin's Page, Deep Purple's Richie Blackmore, and the one only Jimi Hendrix. But Nancy Wilson stuck out to me back then as being genuine and playing from her heart.
Superb. That's a fairly dramatic adjective. In most cases it will suffice to explain the subject matter. However. You knew that was coming , now didn't you ? Superb is not adequate here. Which leaves me in a conundrum. How does one justify and give the recognition that a band like Heart deserves ? Here's a hint. There are no words. They were unstoppable , bold , and intriguing. One of their concerts or any album they've ever put out will do what no words can. ❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
someone with a time machine PLEASE come scoop me up, I will be your indentured servant and willingly sacrifice my life for you when the time is necessary but in exchange you MUST get me out of this time, I am 28 and this era we are suffering through is not for me
I recorded off the FM station a live concert from Boston on that tour, and at the end of that EPIC acoustic intro, Nancy held that final E chord while Ann yelled into the mic "YOU STILL HERE?" The crown went nuts just as Nancy hit that Am to start the song. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
I was hatched in Dec 77... And my folks were young... Mom was 18, Dad was 21. I had the displeasure with growing up pretty poor.. But i had the pleasure and ADVATAGE and LOVE for this era... My folks taught me well. I rememeber my house smelling like Sandlewood, Jasmine, Marijuana, and the slight essence of acoustic guitars...both played. We may not have had much, but we had music. And this song reminds me of that era.. Then the 80's hit, and Video did, in fact, kill the radio star. The times can change the music, shit all over the industry, leave a trail of non talent along the way. But they can't take my memories! THIS was music... And theres still good music. But going unnoticed.
Proof that I was born at the right time to witness these women in rock, who are some of the best to ever take a stage…Heart will always be a phenomenal band
If Nancy truly holding her own in looking so rocking roll bad ass with her hair flowing like the guitar goddess she is!! Hail hail Nancy. Long live Rock n' Roll. What an amazing live opening of an epic song.
One of the most iconic intros to a rock song in music history and Nancy kills ie every time. The additional improvisation on this version is excellent. One of my favorite Heart songs! Well done Nancy and Anne!
1976 Dream boat Annie WOW What an album 💕 Had to have it, couldn't wait for the weekend, had to have it NOW !!! Purchased it at Couches Pharmacy in Fillmore CA. Paid a little more, but worth every penny 📣🎸🎤 And YES WE WENT CRAZY FOR HEART. THANKS WILSON SISTERS 🤙🌺💕
This is an insane master piece by Heart with Nancy's guitar solo introduction, Ann's unbelievable high notes, and the two electronic guitarists' final dual.
@happytownesvanzandt AbsoIuteIy, Roger Fisher and Howard Leese, they all made it excellent. This was the best line-up by far. I mean Ann & Nancy always sound good but this was the most creative, hard rocking version of the band and my personal favorite. They were the total package. I love Magic Man too. And their version of Stairway To Heaven at the Kennedy Center tribute to Led Zeppelin was electric. If you haven't listened to it yet you must. The 7 min some longer version. It is a masterpiece 🏆🥇❤
I'm only 41 ...but Nancy Wilson Is the sexiest woman on the planet!!! Damn those skills! And she's still georgious!! Mad respect to the wilson sisters 👏!!!!!
Am still listening to them to I always love dark hair ladies And had a big crush on the sister with dark hair to Still love their music in July of 2024❤❤❤
This was a 1977 performance....BUT Ann Wilson can STILL belt those high pitches that she was doing in the 70's...They are ONE of a Kind....Ann and Nancy Wilson....HEART LIVES ON......ROCK ON Ladies.........
OMG !!! Everytime I see this I'm blown out of my mind, and that happens during the intro of the piece !!! Nancy Wilson floors me every..single..time !!! Then Ann starts belting it out and together they make us cry !!! All you can do is hold on and enjoy the ride. And when it's over, pick yourself up off the floor and say THANK YOU !! 🥀👍🏻🙋🏻♀️
I'm crazy about you🌹 NANCY ❤🤘🎸🇺🇲, I love her acoustic guitar intro, she's looks beautiful ❤️,they bring me back to my teens, very talented sisters, ❤️ HEART forever 🤘🎸🌹, ChiTown Sir Jose 😎🤘🎸🇺🇲
Talent like this was just as much an exeption back then as it is now. It always seems to us as if there were only talented artists around back then, because all the trashy music that was around then isn't being remembered. We have extremely talented musicians around today, and in a few decades, those will be the ones remembered as such. Meanwhile most of the average and bad music of today will be forgotten. If anything, we are better off today, because due to the abundance of available music, hardly anyone is tied to mainstream music. Many people have their own, more specific tastes in music, and unlike back then, musicians can actually make a living off of catering to those niche genres. The mainstream, as the lowest common denominator, is pretty unimpressive, but nobody has to rely on it anymore.
@@MustObeyTheRules What? Are you completely oblivious to the abundance of creative, rich, non-mainstream music (and the people making it) that we have nowadays?
@@MustObeyTheRules Which Genre do you want? I for my part (as a metalhead) first think of artists like Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish, who's compositions combine metal music with orchestral elements into insanely complex songs. A different spin on the same idea is using classical instruments in new inventive styles, as done by artists like Lindsey Stirling or the Cellists of Apocalyptica. Then there is a whole range of indy artists like Feist or the duo "Boy". Also worth mentioning is the whole category of acapella ensembles.Though that seems to be far more prominent in Europe, but this in itself kinda prooves the point I was making (namely, the musical landscape is extremely complex and varied). On the flipside, there are many purely instrumental artists and composers such as the youtuber Vindsvept. And that is to say nothing of niche artists like a Hurdy Gurdy player writing folk and alternative music (Patty Gurdy) or a metal band dedicated to telling historical tales in their songs (Sabaton). And even even artists that might be considered closer to the "mainstream", such as Florence & the Machine can still display high degrees of creavity and artistic skill. And I can't even talk about genres like Jazz, Rap, Country or electronic music, because that's not my thing and I know very little about them. But even I know that all these have active subcultures and produce talented artists and composers. Note: I'm not saying one has to like ANY of the artists mentioned above. But they sure as hell put your assesment of music nowadays to utter shame.
OmG! I loved Heart since 1976 and the hottest, most rockin band!!! Nancy on guitar is Amazing! Ann on vocals, one of THE best vocalists.. Wow.. Micheal on drums, Howard, keys and guitar.. man... God I miss the 70s!!
