Othello, which is considered to be one of the four greatest tragedies of Shakespeare, together with Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, was engendered into the masterpiece opera Otello upon 6 long years of hard work by the great Italian composer, Verdi. This year, which celebrates the 450th anniversary of the birth of Shakespeare, the opera Otello will be performed in Korea.
Stephen Lawless, who has been invited to Korea as the director of the opera, is renowned for his dramatic interpretation of works in the world′s major opera theaters and festivals, as well as his attention to details that brings vitality to the opera stage. In fact, he recently received the 2013/14 Dora Award for Outstanding Production (Opera division) for his production of Donizetti′s Roberto Devereux for the Canadian Opera Company.
Earlier on in 2012, he had captivated the Korean audience for his directing of the operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat). He received much acclaim from the viewers by making the work that is in between the genre of opera and play as interesting as possible and executing a rather exceptional method of incorporating Korea popular culture.
Stephen Lawless will be back on stage to dazzle the Korean audience with his opera Otello and operetta Die Fledermaus.

그는 이미 지난 2012년 한국에서 열린 오페레타 ′박쥐′ 연출로 한국 관객들을 사로잡았다.
오페라와 연극 사이 아슬아슬한 경계의 재미를 살리고 한국 대중문화를 반영하는 파격적인 연출로 한국 관객들의 뜨거운 호응을 이끌어냈었다.
2014년, 다시 돌아온 스티븐 로리스는 오페라 ′오텔로′와 오페레타 ′박쥐′로 한국 오페라 무대의 마지막을 장식할 예정이라는데..
