It is a three-for-one. Mind Control is like : "Destroy an enemy minion, play this same minion". Then you proceed to kill a minion. Three-for-one.

No, he's correct in what he says. Mind Control steals something, equal to killing it, removing it from the opponents board, thats a 1 for 1. Then Mind Control plays you a minion. That's a 2 for 1 right there, killing and summoning with one spell. The minion that you got with mind control will take at least 1 removal from their side, and that makes it a 3 for 1. And if it takes them 2 cards to kill the minion you stole, that's a 4 for 1.

Let's say my opponent has two Venture Co Mercenaries in play. I Mind Control one of them. My opponent attacks it with the other one and now they're both dead. Where is the third card of my opponent's in your so-called three-for-one? :-)

At first I agreed with the comments here, but Mind Control itself is a card. One card. Kills an enemy minion. Plays you a minion. Right now you are 2 for 1. -- Remove 1 card, and gain 1 card for 1 card. Then they trade. You get 1 more card out of the same card. Now, it is 3 for 1. I do see where OP was going. The Mind Control's controlled minion would be considered a separate card there where it would affect the value to be 3 for 2 (mind control and your new minion are counted separately there)

No, Jeremy is right in that the minion you are double counting the stolen minion. For example, If I play a Bloodfen Raptor and trade it for a River Croc, it does not trade 2 for 1, one card for playing, and one card for killing the opponent's. Even if you viewed that trade as 2 for 1, then MC would give you 3 for 2, as they would get 2 value for their card.

Its not a bad response, especially if your deck is built around alot of early recruits, however, as trump demonstrated and even explained, its a rather low level response.

Alvanix Actually, yes, Gurubashi has great synergy with priest, since you can enrage him over and over AND keep him at high health, which lets you collect a lot of value if the opponent doesnt kill him, which often consumes one major spell. Ofc u can take a 2nd mind control, but thats just my preference

A mages hero ability and cards like flamestrike are more suited to the board control lesson than priest

Mage and Shaman hero powers trump Priest for board control every time. It would also be a more accurate statement to say that its hero power is made to increase card value not board control.

Not really any better choices if you restrict yourself to just basic cards your deck is going to be super slow no matter what so you might as well play the strongest cards you can. Also 2 mind controls is not very different than 1 mind control and ysera which was common in priest for quite a while.

I haven't seen any running it lately too slow with all the hunter but then I haven't played much this season so maybe that's changed

Jay Hignite I play with her since forever and still like this card because it can single handely win you games. Admittably she currently is often a dead card in head, because you have no time to play her.

Ysera is great in control priest when the meta is slower and it can actually be played its just as CaptainKnodel said its usually a dead card with the meta being as fast as it is. Just because you should be ahead in cards doesn't mean you always will be sometimes games don't go your way and Ysera can easily bring you back from behind or give you advantage when tied and like all legendaries if you play her while ahead it becomes rather hard to lose. All this isn't even mentioning how much trading she can do in conjunction with priests hero power thanks to the 12 health. Alex on the other hand seems rather bad the effect is basically useless unless you have follow up burst to kill the opponent because as Trump so often says life is just a resource so unless its at 0 it doesn't really matter. That's why only warrior and mage use it at the top level, priest simply lacks the burst required to exploit its effect leaving as essentially a 9 mana vanilla 8/8 which needless to say is terrible. Of course you are free to disagree but there is a reason pros often put Ysera in their priest decks but you never see Alex.

Card advantage isn't as simple as a card saying "Draw a card". Card advantage is relevant throughout an entire game, whether or not any player draws extra cards. Getting a 2 for 1 is card advantage. Anything that puts you ahead on cards, on the battlefield or in your hand, is card advantage.

True, and I am having a hard time quantifying that as I play games where card advantage isn't that much of a big deal (or at least I play decks in which it doesn't matter as much). I am trying to get better at hearthstone but it is a hard transition, for example, when i first started playing hearthstone, I thought that wisp and goldshire footman were good cards. Never in my life have i been so wrong.

Also being that many players just copy and paste decks from websites like hearthpwn.com you can go there and get an idea of what the meta is. However that is better for later levels. To sum up my pt learn what to expect from each hero. A good site would be hearthstone wiki. Also experiment with decks that have a strong theme for example a mill (draw card) rogue deck. This way you start to push the limits of what you can do which will help make better decks as well as teach you different manners in which to build a deck. Most importantly always stray from the meta, don't be a drone.

Equality+Concecrate doesn't really matter if you're constantly keeping a seven card hand.

It's not just about getting equality + concecrated, it's about thinking about what happens if you do. In this case trump had enough minions in his hand to repopulate the board when the turn bounced back to him. Naturally, if you aren't at the advantage that trump was in, you would want to be more careful of overextending. This is even more so the case in the higher ranks where they can pyro+ equality (4 mana board clear) and then probably put something else down.

Although I'm not sure, the way that Trump was giving lessons very casually instead of being super-focused on the game in try-hard mode, and by the general way he was playing I assume that he didn't think very highly of his opponent, and never expected something as "efficent" as that to ever pop out from the other side.

That being said, your play would have worked optimally because you attack/heal and draw a card while destroying your opponent's secret for 1 card advantage (he also draws too). However, at that particular moment, you don't know what his secret is. In fact, if that were any of the other 3 possible paladin secrets (minus repentence because you know it cannot be repentence if you play a minion and the secret doesn't activate), you would give him a card for probably nothing in return which would be bad. All in all, you would have been more likely than not to lose card advantage instead by attacking with the northshire cleric.

Andrey Penchev Bear in mind we're talking about new players opponents here who would probably pop eye and redemption in a deck just because, not the high rank metagame. That being said, I wouldn't think a new player would have avenge anyways. But still, it would be a risky (and imo, not worth it) decision to attack with the cleric.

+Samuel Williams When replacing cards, you want things that have a lot of value. Holy champion is a 3/5 for 4 mana, and can be buffed easily, so it's pretty good value. You'd want to replace something that is also 4 mana, but has less value, I can't really say since I don't know what you have in your deck. If it were this deck, perhaps a sen'jin shieldmaster, since it has the same stats, but the holy champion can benefit from healing it and deal with bigger threats without needing a buff from another card, so it's better value. Light of the naaru, you could perhaps replace a power word: shield, since it has the same mana cost, and instead of drawing a card, you get a lightwarden, so it still does two things. Lightwell is tricky because it's a 0/5 so it doesn't really do much unless you have a board present already, or it often heals the wrong things and people will play around that, by attacking random things to make the lightwell inefficient, or people will remove it nearly instantly for free since it can't attack back.

Because it's arguably the bests one drop that a board controly deck could run.

It's a 1 mana minion that has 3 health (a sweet spot for Priests, because it means you can always Lesser Heal it to full if it isn't already dead), it kills 3/2s without dying to 2/1s, in early game the deathrattle doesn't matter if you just control the board and don't bother hitting face (which is what all Priests do because their rush potential is the worst of the 9 classes) and in late game the deathrattle is synergistic with Auchenai Soulpriest.

its not even face shaman, its just that i felt like people just stayed at the bottom of the ladder even if they've been playing for a year already which puts new players at a huge disadvantage - i started this month and got to rank 13 and i can tell you its tough as hell because its next to impossible to make a good deck unless you pretty much sacrifice the first legendary you get to get most of the commons and rares for a good deck, and then to figure out what you want to do to get the other legendaries, or to build another deck

If you draw more cards than the opponent and still lose/go to fatigue, then you are either bad or have an unfavourable matchup.

If you manage to Draw 30 Cards before you win then your deck simply doesn't have enough late game. As Priest your mid game is your strongest with making efficient trades and healing to gain board control. Which paves the way to drop your Late game and finish your opponent.

The Northshire Cleric had "Blessings of Wisdom" on it, which gives your opponent a card when it attacks. So doing 1 damage would give a card to the other player, and that wasn't worth it.
