Remember, Disney released Home Alone and Speed from Fox. Both fantastic. This was just a miss/not a big upgrade. Still a very good disc IF your display can handle this level of darkness well.

I just finished watching it and yes, it's pretty dark and it took me about 15 minutes to get used to it, but I have to say I was very happy with the picture. Great detail and grain structure. It really looks like film. If this is now Mann's preferred brightness and color timing, who am I to argue? Outstanding transfer. Can't wait to watch it again soon.

I feel like 4K only exists because we want it to. HDR really doesn't need to exist. Film is the truest representative of a recording and none of these specifications exist in that world.

I’ve been waiting to pick this movie up for years, and to be honest i’m perfectly happy getting just the blu-ray for 5.99 if the 4k isn’t up to par. kind of sucks we couldn’t get a superior 4k presentation but at least i get to save a few bucks. great movie, can’t wait to re-watch it.

I was on the fence about pre-ordering this as I have the previous blu-ray, and I’m glad I didn’t pull the trigger. Great informative review as always, Jeff. Sucks because we’ve all been waiting for this one for such a long time, and the film had the potential to be an outstanding 4K.

Damn. Don't ever count on Disney to put out quality discs. That's wild they put this on a 66 gb disc and not a bigger one.

This is one of my most highly anticipated releases, fantastic movie on a fantastic format. Thank you for this review I really appreciate it, it's a real shame hearing that they manipulated the picture with this release, I've owned it on various formats and still want the 4K version because of the higher resolution.

That Blu-ray is usually on sale at best buy for $5-6 like you said. I’ve only skipped over it due to the 4K eventually coming out, but we see how that went!

Not sure about other players, but the Panasonics have a setting to increase the HDR brightness of the image to the TV. This is really useful for films that are either dimly mastered or the highlights don't go particularly bright.

My go-to version remains the 2009 Blu-ray from Warner: you have more picture in the frame, you have the original distributor logo opening it and, although it's already dull and monochromatic as it's always been on video, all you need to do is increase color saturation on your display to nearly recover the original color timing as seen on 35mm prints from 1995 so you can relive the theater experience... or close to it.
