steam tendesy is to convert (g->l) contact with condenste, so accumulate the condensate in bottom (block the flow) if we pass bottom to top steam, generally industry pass top to bottom in steam

Vapor from hot liquid have tendency to go upward due to natural convection so bottom to top flow and steam condenses so by gravity it moves downward so top to bottom flow

What is r and s in step 3

R and S are the constants which are used to calculate LMTD correction factor. These constants came in to picture because we consider constant temperature difference and heat transfer across the heat exchanger but practically temperature difference across the length of heat exchanger is not constant and also heat transfer across shell is different than HT in head. Hope this will help you.

Steam used in jacket at top side because if we use from bottom then steam will condense then heat transfer not goging properly and creat unnessary pressure. Thats why we used steam top side and hot water apply bottom side out flow top side.. Bahut bekar explain karta hu mai 😂
