What's the deal with heated apparel? Is heated clothing a waste of money or too gimmicky to bring along? In this video, I review heated clothing and show why there's one item that always comes with me in cold weather.

Great video Brian. I've always been skeptical of these type of clothing, but might have to just try it out like you did.

Great review Brian and spot on. Core temperature (inc neck) is what is most crucial to staying warm. Your point regarding the importance of regulating body temperature is also very important advice. I winter hike and backpack and it is dangerous to sweat. A vest makes for quick and easy temperature regulation without having to stop and peel off layers (only to have to put them back on again when exerting more effort). Plus the vest frees up your arms for better movement rather than dealing with a bulky coat Very valuable advice and well explained (as usual) thanks 👍👍

I bought an electric vest a few years ago very similar to what you are wearing. I also bought electric socks and gloves. I use all of these when I do snow blowing up here in Alberta Canada. I go out and clear snow at -35c and with a wind, very very cold I'll tell you. I'm usually outside for an hour or two. Having all the electric clothing I mentioned makes it all the more tolerable. I use the vest when I camp late into the fall for those cooler mornings. Great info.

Thanks for the great review. I have raynaud’s syndrome so have to keep my core warm. I have the heated jackets by the other companies with the proprietary battery connectors. I plan on ordering this vest.

Wish I could find out max current draw with these vests....so I would know if I can plug into my motorcycle USB outlet safely. Using battery's is a bit of a no no for me. I am not interested in buying very expensive motorcycle vests such as KEIS.
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife Год назад
Since it draws on a standard USB, it has a max draw of 3 A at 5 V. Typically it draws considerably less than this, fine to use with USB.

What would you choose for northern climate ? A heated vest or heated jacket ?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife Год назад
I’m a big fan of the vest. When it gets cold, you can put a coat over top of the vest to trap more heat in. I try to get mine pretty well fitted for that reason. Good luck, stay warm!

@@DIYOutdoorLife Hard to find anything that doesn't have a proprietary connector :( Project farm reviewed heating jackets (not vests) and Ororo performed well even with the low price, may go for that :/
