BER should've opened 12(!) years ago. Nowadays it is said that the new airport will open in 2021 but I don't believe it will open before 2025. That's a delay of ALMOST 20 YEARS!

Not true actually. Airplanes are developing all the time. Also the landings are adjusted, so the airplanes will fly higher for longer and create less noise.
@Ritaaw1
@Ritaaw1 3 года назад
The thrid runway is further away from the living areas. It also helps to regulate the landing times. Right now, an airplane is landing to heathrow every thirty seconds. With the third runway the number will be reduced. The third runway will be lomger than the old ones, making possible for bigger airplanes to land at Heathrow.

@mhfitness8029

I would agree but the flight paths make it SO loud for many people living near the airport. I know that the planes don’t have a choice but I live directly in between two flight paths I could imagine trying to sleep when there constantly passing overhead every 40 seconds. If anything I think they should build like 4 or 5 runway airport on Borris island then build a fast transport link from central London. Borris island has tones of empty land so it wouldn’t disturb anyone.

@@mhfitness8029 How much would cost planning and building a new airport and upgrading local infrastructure to cope with new demand. You also need to connect the new "megaairport" to London via tube or railway. This would add more expenditure. Who is so daring to pay for a new airport (that I assume will be publicly funded via extra taxes) while the "plan A" is letting a private enterprise invest their money to expand an exlsting facility?

I don’t understand why people move near to an airport, then complain about the noise, and when offered the value of their house twice over, refuse to move
@KiloOneThree
@KiloOneThree 5 лет назад
Most residents have lived in the area all their lives. Parents and grandparents lived here. Some move to the area because of work (not at airport). For many, it’s affordability. And how many can afford to be in London, near a place they work, but cannot afford to move out of the area. It’s not just about the money. Where to move to? How old are the people? Where do the work? Do they have children? There’s a lot more to it than selling your house for thrice the price. Great if you are single or a young couple. Maybe not so much if circumstances are different.
@ryanm.191
@ryanm.191 5 лет назад
KiloOneThree they were offered twice to in some cases four times the value of their houses, which are worth anywhere between 250-450,000 pounds, which is more than enough to buy a house in an expensive are of london. Even if they’d lived there their whole lives, the airport was there first, only people who would be upwards of 80 would have been there their whole lives. And jobs? The money they were offered would easily get them a house AND a car or whatever. Plus the way the whole of London is connected means it’s cheap and very easy to get to almost anywhere, especially near such a massive infrastructure monument such as Heathrow. It is unreasonable the way these resident are acting. How much Heathrow airport contributes to the WHOLE country’s economy, and how much a third runway would increase that is so substantial I’m surprised the government didn’t just evict these people
@KiloOneThree
@KiloOneThree 5 лет назад
Ryan M. Either you don’t live and work in London, or you do, but it is nowhere near/under a flight path, and you are in a well paid job and/or on a quick and easy path from to work and home by public transport. Or you work for one of the groups working on the expansion. London is not all connected, and it’s not “cheap and easy” to get everywhere. Tube, rail, bus travel can be sucky at the best of times, as can be car travel. Sounds like you are alright, but not everyone is as flush as you. And do you consider all those many more who live in the surrounding areas who would be affected, but are not in zones that were or will bought out. Add to that, even more thousands will be affected by noise who previously were not. Whilst I acknowledge that the expansion would overtime benefit the U.K. and reduce the number of delayed flights (personal experience), it’s easy to think about the greater good, if you are not directly impacted. How we are to become carbon neutral by 2050, I don’t know. Heathrow should buy out or just evict onto the streets, everyone and everything within a 10-15km radius, and make all this surrounding area a green zone. That would stop any future complaints, right? Edit: I’d love to the see how nice it would be to enjoy a green space near the airport, with low flying aircraft constantly overhead. Lovely picnic lol
@icy_swoosh
@icy_swoosh 5 лет назад
KiloOneThree Actually if you go to Kew Gardens while runway 27 is active, you can experience firsthand how useless the green space near the airport is for any sort of leisure. Aircraft are flying 1500ft above your head every minute, might as well sell ear buds in the souvenir shop.

I strongly disagree. Firstly this is an area that is full and teeming with well built residential areas,farmland and regenerated moorland already. It is not a barren unlived in area What they wont talk about is that the area they plan on demolishing used to be a waste heap. It was so poisonious they actually have generators that reduce the toxicity of the earth there (this is harmondsworth moor im talking about) currently north of the airport on the left of the picture. This area was built as a result of collaboration between the council and the business park involved with the airport and is a perfect example of how to correctly regenerate an area. But we dont have councillors looking after us any more so this proposed "regeneration" looks far more aggeesive in comparison. Additionally the north side of the airport is home to HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people in west drayton hayes stockley uxbridge cowley and denham sipson and harmondsworth. These areas already suffer from high pollution being sandwiched in between the M25 and the M4 i live on the coast but when i visit my parents there within 3 days im coughing out black stuff from the pollution. Currently the north side does not experience noise pollution from the airport just from the motorways. I hope this wont ruin our environment there. Also the areas they plan on destroying include communities that existed BEFORE the airport was built. Some listed buildings are more than 800 years old but will be destroyed like the famous barn in harmondsworth. Many of my family members have worked in around and for the airport at times. Its the reason they moved to live there to work to help improve our communities. Their commitment is klnow rewardes with a runway less than 800 metres from their house. Heathrow can talk about the neccessity of expansion but they already have one of the largest and highest capacity airports in the world. This expansion is for rich bussiness and economic reasons not for the land or the people. Im not against industrial progress but i dont want to see our homes ruined. ER help us pls

Alex Rogers . It looks like you’re very passionate about this subject so copy it over to the consultation since sending it here won’t really help. Either way you haven’t convinced me. I just can’t justify not doing this project since it’s so important for the nation. Honestly if I lived in the area I would be exhilarated at the free regeneration and growth this would bring and of course the compensation money too. I hate to sound like a commie but at this point we all have to do something for the common good of the nation. To compete globally it’s the only way!
@iman2341

@@R3adybreck Its not like any of the infrastructure you mention is new? Heathrow has been there for over 60 years and the motorways have been there for coming on for 50. People move there knowing that there is an airport there and have known for years there have been plans to expand it. The flight paths for the new runway mirror that of the existing runways so the planes will be less than 1000m further north than they currently already fly.

@charliemccameron4812 5 лет назад
Circular runway.. And you expect that to work how exactly? Planes going around and around in circles? They would hit each other. Planes come into land at around 150-200MPH.. How are you going to expect them to be able to turn in a circle WHILST going that speed? Or how would they take off while going in a circle as turning would cause the speed to lower? Physics doesn't work like that my friend. That's like having a roundabout and trying to land a plane on it, it won't work, especially with several planes on it at several different speeds that would just be a crash fest waiting to happen...

The T5 extension will displace wildlife habitats going back hundreds of years. Small wooded areas and not forgetting the river that runs through, with natural river beds. I'm pro expansion but being somebody who walks this area weekly, it will have a massive impact on the wildlife ecosystem there. When and if work starts, wildlife will be stuck between groundwork with the T5 Extension and the M25 with nowhere to go. Have you considered this? What plans do you have in place for ensuring current wildlife is moved to other areas? I'm a huge aviation fan but the T5 Extension I'm afraid cuts way too deep into the green area and will also impact traffic flow in local villages, Wraysbury, Datchet, Poyle and Colnbrook.

Expansion of Gatwick would primarily serve holiday travelers during peak travel season (the late spring and early summer months), and serve Norwegian Air Shuttle (operationally separate from Norwegian Air operations out of Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm). Expansion of Stansted and Luton would likely only serve low-cost airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling, and others. Heathrow expansion will serve flights with business travelers to North America, India, East Asia, Australia, and business-heavy South American destinations like Rio, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Bogota. Although, British Airways partner Iberia will likely offer connecting itineraries (through Madrid) to more South American destinations, as well as additional seats through South American carriers’ flights to Madrid, more so than nonstop routes to London on South American carriers, thanks to cultural ties between Spain and Latin America. Expansion of Heathrow will also deliver benefits to air cargo operations, thanks to Heathrow’s investment in its air cargo terminal(s). It will make more long-haul destinations financially viable, thanks to air cargo revenue helping to keep economy ticket prices reasonable even if initial load factors aren’t up to scratch. That’s why Heathrow expansion is, in the long run, a better solution than expanding other airports. It’s economies of scale for air cargo, business travelers, and year-round service. With the demise of several low-cost and holiday package airlines in the last 5 years, putting investment into the primary London airport for legacy carriers is the least likely airport expansion to end up being a waste of funds, public or private.

2026 for the 3rd runway and construction completing for 2050!?? If this plan goes ahead, I'm sure by 2050 we will need a 4th runway as well. Why is everybody so blinkered about Heathrow. Both Stansted and Gatwick are having single runways right now. Building extra runways at these sites could be better. Also, both STN and LGW have less things around them to demolish (and rebuild) as well.
