In this video I am at the largest Blockchain economy Conference in Europe interviewing Ian Mullins of Yamgo and AdsDax. Ian is the single largest use case on the Hedera Hashgraph Mainnet with almost 2 Billion of the 6 Billion Transactions to date. Max, thanks for the vid. I have to say that watching this latest video has me freaked out about the security of the hot wallets. I didn’t quite follow what Ian was saying about them not being secure and how there are multiple “attack vectors”. It was my understanding that if you keep your keys to yourself then nobody can access your HBAR. Can you shed any more light on this with some of your famous analogies?

Thanks for watching Jamaon. Yes the crypto in a hot wallet is only as strong as the wallet itself. I’m a cold wallet it isn’t connected to the internet so hackers can’t get to it remotely to try and steal from you. Think of a hot wallet as your crypto locked in a strong room. If the door is secure you should be fine. Think of a cold wallet as putting your crypto in a strong room with no door. The only way to create a door to get in is with the physical device you have in your hand, if the hacker doesn’t have that it doesn’t matter what they do they can’t get in the room.

Hi Jamson, Attack vector are the number of potential pathways to unauthorised access. Unhosted Cold Wallets, like Yamgo and hardware wallets are more secure than Hot Wallets in general. Attack vectors are opportunities for hackers. Hot wallets have more attack vectors than cold wallets keys kept 100% offline and 100% in your control. However, Hot wallets offer superior UX over cold storage solutions and are perfect for low value, low account balance transactions like gaming and day to day shopping. For Hbar hodlrs we designed an ultra-secure unhosted cold wallet solution with multi-sig and key management for enterprise and treasury use cases. Ledger is also supported for those who like Ledger Live.

Work 9 till 5, work till we are 70, pension, saving money and not understanding inflation etc. I hope my investments in crypto pay off one day. So me and my family can independantly do what we want, so we can truly call arselfs free. At least it is great to have people like you helping us with that in a certain way.

Sorry, this interview was in London, hence the confusion. There were a few new hardware wallet providers that caught my interest, in terms of layer 1 platforms I need to look at ICP but other than that I haven’t seen or heard anything recently that’s a real contender in my eyes.

Another good interview Max, but I would like to make 1 comment. Earlier you promoted the Wallawallet, as advised by your smart friend, for most secure staking wallet for your HBAR. Today in this video is beiing stated, well that might be ok, but only for smaller amounts of HBAR. Then I would also like to use an analogy to make it clear that I do not completely agree with this. Someone is pregnant or not, a little pregnant is not an option. Similarly, the amount of HBAR should make no difference to the degree of security of a wallet. It is safe or not. The wallet must offer me the same degree of security, regardless of whether I want to stake 100 HBAR or 1 million HBAR via the relevant wallet and possibly withdraw some of it later. Safety shouldn't be related to quantity in my opinion. 🔐

Not true, security isn’t as binary as pregnancy, a wallet can be more secure than another wallet but more security comes with more inconvenience, hence a ‘hot’ wallet for walk around money and a cold wallet as your vault.

Hi, We have been live on Hedera since open access day 1 and we run our own layer 2 infrastructure integrated with Hedera at its core. To help solve the fraud issues of the ad industry we added tracking to consumers advertising interactions across our ad network. 2bn sounds like a lot but for advertising 2bn people looking at an advert and interacting with it is pretty small. Google does 30bn impressions per day from adwords alone. AdsDax was the first live at scale enterprise use case on Hedera we aim to disrupt the ad industry and its need for middlemen.
