Helix Theatre in La Mesa closes 1976 

I went there many times as a child. Complete noisey kid pandemonium inside as we watched Jerry Lewis films. I loved every minute of it. The parents just dropped the kids off and had a few hours to themselves. The parents mostly did not come into the theatre. I remember an older kid saying to me on the way there "I suppose you have never seen a movie you didn't like". I said not I have not. It never occurred to me there could be a movie I would not like. I had a lot of great times at the Helix theatre....Thanks!!

The flashback stories are great a testament to times long gone

Used to go on sat , two films ,all the parents used it as babysitter !good times😊

Saw many a flick at the old Helix-then worked a bit at the Gemco in the late 70's.

I saw 'Night of the Living Dead' at the Helix Theater in 1968 and had to walk home in the dark after. Yikes!

Saw all the speghetti western movies, Charles Bronson's movies, countless every Saturday until football season started for me at Morse High.

Most single screen theaters closed in the mid-1970's or were twinned to often poor results. Instead of one comfy auditorium with a large screen, twinning usually gave you two cramped auditoriums with puny screens.
