Hey Mike. Loved this video. "Hellboy" is one of the greatest titles of all-time time. Hellboy, himself, is one of the greatest characters of all-time. All the characters are amazing. These Library Eds. are some of my most treasured possessions. For me, while I luv all Hellboy stories, the short stories & 2-3 issue minis hold a special place in my heart. I luv being able to just pick out one or two of these & get a nice little chunk of Hellboy goodness. Even though Mignola doesn't draw it(most of my favorite stories are drawn by Mignola), "The Crooked Man" mini is my favorite Hellboy story ever. And, as I've probably mentioned before, Richard Corben- who does the art- is one of my favorite artists to ever live. I know Mignola has commented many times on his love of Corben's work. I've collected as much of his stuff as I can. He's a master of horror comics art. I'm actually going to re-read it, for the 100th time, in prep for the sequel that was released, "The Return of Effie Kolb." Btw, I'm 100% in agreement about the importance of design when talking about books. Great video, brother. U guys & ur families continue stay safe. Much luv.😊👍🏻👍🏻❤
Fun thing is that i wasn't into comics at all when i came across Hellboy. And i loved it even before reading, just because of this pure metal style logo
Love Hellboy, these are great editions to showcase the stories and artwork...really liked your review, brief but thorough while allowing the book to speak for itself.
I need to explore more of the Mignolaverse! I’ve read some BPRD, mainly Plague of Frogs and the entire Abe Sapien series - any recommendations on which one to hit up next?
@@TheHardcoverComic hellboy and the BPRD is a good anthology type series similar to the short stories and I haven’t read it but lobster Johnson is a fan favourite but you’d have to go digital as the trades are $$$
@The Hardcover Comic I definitely agree with @Jacob Charlton & @SCC regarding "Baltimore" & "Witchfinder!" "Baltimore," as SCC mentioned, isn't part of the Mignolaverse, but it is awesome, bro! I've yet to finish the 2nd omnibus(which completes the series), but it's been incredible so far! Plus, I recently read that there's a "Lady Baltimore" series that just started(or will start soon- I can't remember, but it looks cool, too!). "Witchfinder" is part of the Mignolaverse, & I've read the 1st 4 vols, & they are excellent! You can collect the 1st 3 vols in a nice v.1 Omni! I have all of the "Hellboy & the B.P.R.D." trades & they are super fun, cool stories! The 1st Omni is coming out soon! I haven't read "Lobster Johnson," but he's a pulp hero- not superhero- character, like HB & the Shadow, etc., so I'll bet he's a fun read! SCC is right about the cost of the trades; but I'd bet it will get an Omni collection like the other books @ some point. Hopefully, lol. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to go digital on it. I am, by no means an expert on the Mignolaverse, as I have only read a little of "B.P.R.D." & "Abe Sapien."(not to mention all of the other 1-offs[so far, anyway], such as "Frankenstein Underground," "Rasputin," & the rest) Maybe someday! Anyways, BIG 👍🏻 for "Witchfinder" & "Baltimore!"😉
You should do a what makes a superhero a superhero video ...I wouldn’t consider the ninja turtles superhero’s ...they’re just big turtles that practice martial arts with no real super powers or abilities but some people would say they are superhero’s
Hi I’ve been thinking of getting the library edition but I heard that after seed of destruction you had to read strange places, does the library edition have strange places?
Hey Brandon! Check out one of the videos Matt made about the various binderies out there and the services they provide! We also have tons of videos on bind prep! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EWo_2FH0Ems.html
You mention superheroes have a costume, with an emblem. Hellboy has that. For me, he's most definitely a superhero. He has a costume, fights evil, has superpowers, is part of a team that has superpowers, has a rogue gallery. Do you consider e.g. Iron Man to be a superhero? He has no super powers, no spandex and no alter-ego.
He doesn't have a costume, or an emblem. The BPRD logo is in no way his, and he just wears a trench coat. He doesn't have superpowers, he had very normal powers for a demon. I wouldn't call him a superhero at all.
@Chris Ruiz what do you consider a costume? spandex and a cape? Or do other things count as well? Do you consider e.g. Iron Man a super hero? Saying he doesn't have super powers beause those are "normal powers for a demon" is the same as saying superman does not have super powers because he's a Kryptonian. In your line of thinking, only humans can have super powers. So what about Liz? She's human, she has pyrokinesis. So she has superpowers right? What about Abe?
