Wow thank you. That really means a lot. It's considerably different to this now. All the rigging and sails have been installed etc etc. You can see the correct state of the victorys and other projects I'm working on on my I stagram page @rjscaleships

Omg not good Paul. You should always check contents against the parts list before starting, but you shouldn't have to though. Contact @heller.fr on Instagram.. there was an old batch that had a few parts missing and the shops that were selling them were replacing them by opening other boxes etc. Give heller a shout buddy, they are usually very helpful. Also contact the shop you purchased it from as they may have another one that they can open. Make sure you note down all the parts against the parts list and note everything that is missing

It's easily done mate. We all naturally expect the contents to be there.. I have a few parts missing on mine, but the shop managed to sort that for me quite swiftly. This is the first time I've hear of the entire decks missing though

Thank you my friend. That is very much appreciated. Yes I have two books which were invaluable during the build. The first is a book called "rigging period ship models" by Petersson. A very good book with fabulous illustrations and easy to understand. The second book which is without a doubt a must is "The anatomy of Nelsons ships". This is probably considered the bible of victory model building and has a huge amount of information, rigging and deck diagrams. I also used books such as "hms victory 1765 first rate" and the hms victory Haynes manual for reliable resource material

Thank you john. I hadn't built a model for over 30 years and never a ship. This is my 3rd attempt. I have a small full wood kit for my next one, but definitely not experienced enough to build a large scale wood kit yet. I dont k know how to use an airbrush so it's all painted by hand. This one does give me the opportunity to make all the shrouds and ratlines along with all the tackle for the rigging etc, so it's good practice for me even though I landed up scratch building a lot of pieces myself, but hopefully I'll be able to build one of the large wood ships one day. Thanks for the kind words buddy, it really does mean a lot.

And to build the 1/84 Victory takes serious skill. Would love to see that. Did you paint it or leave it to show the beautiful wood??

RJ ScaleShips, she is unpainted i only used walnut and oak wood stain. She can be viewed on Genesis models or John’s Iconic military models Facebook page under visitor posts.

@@johndouglas7344 awesome. I'll check it out. I have a friend on instagram who is doing the victory without paint and I have to admit I'd struggle with deciding whether to paint or not as the wood looks beautiful. I'll check your victory out buddy 😉👍👍👍

Hiya buddy. Omg no masts?? I would have been gutted at that point.. not good.. glad you have recieved your Victory though. My decks are all custom painted. They are a mixture of up to several pigments which is almost impossible to explain. If you check out my Instagram @rjscaleships you'll see hundreds of images relating to this. My latest build the Soleil Royal's decks are stunning and all hand painted. I basically use my wood effects to create the decks and wood look which I'm in the process of doing a tutorial video. Being a complex and time consuming procedure the video is going to take a while, but its definitely on it's way.. until then check out my Instagram page as there is a lot of info, ideas and visual reference that may help 😉👍👍👍

Hi Dean. The book is "rigging period ship models" by petersson. It has roughly 90% of the Victory's rigging and tackle in there which is a huge help. The yellow I'm using is the Revell Aqua flat. But I've used a lot of wash pigments to tone it down and weather the paint. If you go to my instagram page at @rjscaleships you can see where I am at the moment with the build and how she is starting to look with her sails..

Hiya buddy. The Victory was approx 980 hours over the space of 11 months and still remains my all time favourite build.. many special memories of this ship over the years

Hi malcolm. Of the top of my head I'm not sure, but I will most certainly find out for you. I use all my own rope which I have bucket loads of as it looks so much more authentic both in terms of colour and look especially once waxed.. if you follow my instagram @rjscaleships you can keep up to date with the build etc etc and if you message me on there I can let you know as I'm not great with this RU-vid stuff

RJ ScaleShips Super, many thanks! I’m sort of the other way around - not familiar with Instagram - but I’ll give it a go. Have to ask one more question. Did you source your rope from a specific shop and can you tel me who that is? Asking because I can’t find any good stuff anywhere! I’m i Canada and the only sources seem to be U.S and Europe but not really addressing the sizes I need. Anyway, many thanks again.

@@malcolmbrown9266 of course I can. I took a trip to hobby craft and basically spent ages going through all the different threads of all different kind..I landed up spending over £60 in thread. I haven't done a video of my current point in the build, but I'm in the process of installing the sails. I wanted all my rope to look real with all the lashing etc so I avoided Hellers thread and just purchased my own.. hobby craft has a considerable amount of thread, but most decent shops that sell that kind of thing will have what your after, but if you can get onto instagram you will see an almost daily update from the day I started the Victory to her current point now. Lots and lots of information for you there buddy

@@malcolmbrown9266 I'm not sure you'll have a hobby craft in Canada buddy, but try a local store that specialises in sewing and knitting. They usually stock huge amount of thread of all different gauges and styles etc. I got black for all the standing rigging and beautiful tan for all the running as well as tan and black thread of the thickness of a hair for all the lashing etc

RJ ScaleShips Super, thanks. All of the good hobby shops in our are closed years ago so I was thinking exactly what you suggest, and try our local fabric shop. I’ll definitely give Instagram a go because I’d love to see your build in progress. I’m following another chap on FaceBook - there’s a Royal Navy Models and Ships FB Group - and I think you and he are in the same elite league of model builders 😁👍

Hiya. The revell Constitution is a great model, but it is extremely difficult to find it these days. Well at 1/96 scale it is.. there is a nice revell Catty Sark at large scale by revell which is a level 5. Challenging but not to difficult and looks amazing when finished.. the victory is definitely not a ship for the first time model though, but definitely 1/72 black pearl, 1/96 cutty sark and if lucky enough to find one the 1/96 Constitution. All of which are made by Revell.. the cutty sark and the black pearl are easily obtainable, but it really is difficult to find a constitution at that scale. The smaller ones are nice, but lack details die to their size. Its definitely something you should get into buddy. Very very rewarding 😉👍👍👍👍
