This episode showed us how the dynamic between Blitz and Stolas started and how it has always repeated the same pattern: Stolas is interested in Blitz, Blitz uses him to get something he wants, BUT, in the process, Blitz genuinely enjoys Stolas' company. He enjoyed being his friend that day as kids, and he definitely enjoyed their first sexual encounter as adults (Blitz said he "could do it real fast" and ended up spending the whole night with Stolas and left the next morning). The thing is, they need to break this pattern to build a healthy relationship. They love each other, but they haven't talked about their feelings at all. Stolas started his development already by standing up for himself and demanding the divorce from his abusive wife. Now, I hope it's Blitz turn to start growing and he fights his self-hatred and fear of abandonment (we saw all the things tormenting him in episode 6 of season 1). He's terrified of being hurt and alone, but he also pushes anyone who gets too close precisely because of that fear.

I just want to pick up kid Stolas and give him a hug. He deserved to have parents who actually loved him, even if it is Hell and he's a demonic prince. This episode did portray Blitz in a very poor light, but it also showed he had a bad childhood too. Thru-out the first season we saw hints that Blitz had a rough past that altered his views. Hell end of episode seven showed a wall of pictures of people he cares for, with him scratched off or marked away. Blitz is a deeply damaged person. Stolas is a emotionally starved and broken person as well. It is unfortunate that what started their relationship is all on a lie. I am interested to see more on what is going to happen, and if we get more backstory. Cause we have yet to see Blitz's mom or sister, plus how he got his scars. Also how Fizzaroli got his scars and turned into a cyborg.
@Za11oy
@Za11oy Год назад
Well, we have nothing absolutely concrete sure. But in this episode, Blitz' dad did have him steal from the Goetias, and steal quite a lot at that honestly. Not just a little trinket or two, a whole bag from the treasury, maybe more. Me thinks that when a certain papa bird caught on to that little event.... That circus probably didn't get spared much.... And considering that just him leaving was enough to level half a tent.... Yeah, you probably don't want to be on the other end of Stolas' daddy's fury. Heck, it's probably surprising that Blitz and Fizzarolli are even alive if that's the case.
@BlueRoseWolfie
@BlueRoseWolfie Год назад
@@Za11oy That is a possibility. Could also explain how he may have lost his Mom and possibly his sister, or how his connection to them deteriorated. It may all be connected like that, or entirely different way, just goes to show theres a lot of ideas for coming episodes.

@bolbyballinger Год назад
Also worth noting is that for whatever reasons (I didn't bother keeping up) there was supposed to be a different episode that came out before this one. We got a full veiw of the tragedy that is Stolas's life. But we got a hint of the tragedy of blitz. From what we know so far blitz has been playing second fiddle to fizz and maybe his sister even though we haven't seen anything of her but she was a celebrity at least. Then his father only cares about what he gets out of blitz with no care for his safety and he will manipulate to get it. It was not what I expected, but still very emotional. Fizzarollie, Blitz and Stolas have a lot in common.... All three were abused for something... (I think Blitz abandoned the circus and Fizzarollie didn't want to have anything to do with him anymore and then got in contact with Mammon (Imbodiement of Greed) (3rd absuse)). Stella is actually the worst. She is a perfect example of a toxic, manipulative character. Stolas may not have been honest, but he is not a bad guy. She probably hates herself because she has never experienced love, and accordingly enjoys being able to use others. But, what will happen when she no longer has anyone to abuse? While Blitz is definitely fucked up, and treats Stolas awfully, Stolas actually treats Blitz just as badly. Stolas fetishizes Blitz in a big way, constantly reinforcing the sexual nature of their relationship to the detriment of the romantic side, and is entirely ignorant of the reality of the class dynamics between the two, unintentionally dominating and humiliating Blitz time after time, while also objectifying him. Even the premise of their relationship is one of authority and domination. Stolas literally holds Blitz's livelihood over the latter's head via the grimoire, and this episode I think has Stolas realizing this a bit, I think. A fan translated the page of the grimoire on Asmodian Crystals, and discovered that they would allow Blitz to go into the human world without the use of the grimoire. I think that Stolas will give such a crystal to Blitz, and it will free Blitz of that aspect of the power dynamic, at which point the relationship will either collapse entirely or it will finally have room to grow into something healthier.
@zuzu6864
@zuzu6864 Год назад
However, it is implied that Stolas actually thinks that Blitz likes dirty talk as Blitz didn't answer his question when he tried breaking in. He went along with it to steal the book and since then, Stolas thinks it's something that he likes
@GhostedJackal
@GhostedJackal Год назад
@@zuzu6864 Possibly, but that doesn't solve the objectification/fetishization issue. It isn't just the constant dirty talk, but the fact that Stolas is depicted as constantly pushing for sex and especially in the earlier episodes only speaks to him in terms of physical attraction. Like, it's not actually until Ozzie's that Stolas tries to have normal conversations with Blitz that don't involve sex somehow. Even if he did think Blitz liked the dirty talk, that's almost all he ever did. By only communicating with sexuality, he reduced Blitz to a sex object. The closest we see of Stolas actually trying to approach Blitz in a non-sexual way before Ozzie's was the invitation to the harvest festival, which happened in the aftermath of a sexual encounter, further reinforcing that everything about their relationship has to be tied back to sexuality.
@rogaldorn4759
@rogaldorn4759 Год назад
@@GhostedJackal Fully agree. They are both rather dysfunctional in regards to their personalities, emotions and especially ability to communicate their actual wants and needs. Blitz moreso in general, while Stolas can't stop calling Blitz "Blitzy", directly calling him "impish little plaything" in ep6. He doesn't show him the respect he should, if he wanted him as a partner. And this still ignores the whole mess concerning demon hierarchy and politics. I really want to see this explored proper before Stolas gets inevitably murdered by Norman Reedus and his (Chekhov's) gun.
@hibarikyoya854
@hibarikyoya854 Год назад
I believe they do love each other even though it started with Blitz taking advantage of Stolas and accidentally awakening Stolas's dormant libido, he couldn't just leave him there they just don't know how to show it or just afraid to show it because apparently those gems Stolas was looking at could give Blitz the ability to go to the human world but is afraid to make one as is Blitz afraid given he seems to self destruct when getting too close with someone as seen with Verosika. It's honestly one of those just talk moments.
@GhostedJackal
@GhostedJackal Год назад
@@hibarikyoya854 Oh, I totally believe they love each other, or at least have something that could grow into a genuine love. It's just a mutually not-healthy pile of confused feelings at the moment coupled with a lack of communication. The Asmodean Crystals seem like they either have the chance to burn down the rotten foundation to start anew, or allow both to move on. Once Blitz is no longer reliant on Stolas for his livelihood, something approaching an equal power dynamic can be established.

@STPstudio47 Год назад
This episode is the worst one, a retcon basically Before season 2 it seemed like Blitzo and Stolas were just drunk during some party and got together for one night, Blitzo stole the book but Stolas forgave him and offered an exchange. In pilot Blitzo calls Stolas "priviliged asshole", really? After he felt sympathy towards Stolas and f**ked him out of pity, he now turns into a hater. In episode 2 it seemed like Stella cared about their reputation at least. They could have changed it to Stella being toxic in private, but in public pretend to be a happy queen and tell others about her amazing prince Stolas, and also, Stolas seemed to care about this affair, he tried to calm her down, apologize etc. He can't explain to his daughter what's wrong between them, as if the problem was deeper than "nah yo mama is toxic lol". In episode 5 Stolas acts superior to Blitzo and other imps, like he's the higher race. If he knew Blitzo since childhood he probably wouldn't think like that. And episode 7 perfectly showed that the relationship is not only about f**king, because when it came to them going out, talking, it seemed like there's not much goin on, they don't have anything in common, they don't understand each other. Stolas feels ashamed that people know about this affair, he doesn't defend Blitzo, and Blitzo is disappointed, but he's no better, he invited Stolas only in order to get to the club. This was a lot more complicated before, now it just seems flat "aaaww Stolas is innocent, Stella is evil, Blitzo really cared since the beggining (it's not like it developped)"
@undertakernumberone1
@undertakernumberone1 Год назад
if I'm being honest... i was rather disappointed with the portrayal of hte stuff... it's a cliche storm... Arranged marriage partner is a two dimensional arse, and Stella even actively revels in making him miserable. Gay man in unhappy straight relationship. + Implied Love at first sight. (THe moment he sees Blitz for the first time feels very much like that classic moment for that) This isn't meant to sound like hating, but... it feels like there could've been done MORE with it, isntead of using stuff that's been beaten to death, dragged through hell and back, reanimated and beaten to death again. Or at least given a more unique spin. Like, for example, Stolas could've been Demisexual. Meaning he needs an emotional connection for romantic love. Both of htem could've tried to make it work but it just wouldn't work out, so both ended up frustrated by that. And even for Stella there could've been some other side to her instead of "nah, she's just nasty!" Instead of the two being incompatible to begin with, and Stella just being an arse, the two could've tried to make it work, but it didn't work out. This, in turn, begins to have both of them to start growing frustrated. Down the line, Stella migth ahve to take over some of the representative duties Stolas should do, but just has no interest in. Maybe to the detriment of stuff she actually wants to do. Maybe som eother reasons for her to grow increasingly bitter. Maybe Stolas not really being interested in her as part of it? Maybe, which is partially a thing in the episode, Stolas and Stella are seen as a joke by alot of the demon royalty, which pisses Stella off, while Stolas doesn't really care. Which, of course, amplifies her anger at Stolas. Stolas meanwhile misses the emotional support and love he yearns for and just can't get from Stella. Instead it's really just the same old story? And even the portrayal of Blitz's dad is the old "Sells kid for nickle and a dime" abusive parent gag. And then, he wants blitz to rob the place... instead of him just charging a large bill upfront.
@47ratsinahoodie
@47ratsinahoodie Год назад
They could have tried to make it work at first. Stella's an ass but she cares about her imagine (plus there's that Loo Loo Land photo where she seems to be genuinely happy back when Octavia was a baby). But Stolas and Stella don't love each other so it makes sense they wouldn't force it if it didn't really work the first time. They only really become good at being determined after Stolas starts cheating (Stolas with being determined to keep his relationship with Blitzø alive and Stella with being determined to kill Stolas). Also the stuff you said about Stolas not being interested in Stella and Stolas not really caring about what the other demon royals think is already canon. The former as aforementioned with neither liking their spouse and the latter with Stolas not wanting to put in the effort to stop Stella's gossiping. If he's already seen as a joke, it doesn't matter cause getting into fights with Stella could hurt Octavia's feelings. So while it's cliche, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. But even if it's not bad, doesn't mean it's not still cliche. Also, Blitzø's dad recognized Blitzø wasn't worth a hefty price tag and probably would've had trouble convincing Paimon to pay up. Selling Blitzø cheap, stealing from the Goetias, and running away was probably a guaranteed way to get some money. Paimon didn't want Fizz and he already pulled the, "It'll cost ya," stunt so he couldn't resort to trying to charge a whole lot for Blitzø, especially cause again, Paimon's neglectful, not blind. He say the audience's reaction to Blitzø, he wouldn't think he was worth much.

@@47ratsinahoodie he tried to pull the "It'll cost ya" thing when he thought it'd be Fizz. didn't mean that it'd have to go "Nickle and a dime" with Blitz. You may rsie valid pooints, but for me it mainly feels like Viv and co. were predominantly leaning into the part of hte fanbase who more or less already predicted every part of this, sans Stolas having met blitz as child. So far, most we see is Stella reveling in making him miserable. ANd her comment about having pressed out an egg, imho, does imply that the "not divorced yet" party was before the picture in Loo Loo Land was taken.

@@undertakernumberone1 Again, Paimon's neglectful, not blind or deaf. He saw that Stolas liked specifically Blitzø and that no one else in the circus did. I highly doubt Paimon, who didn't even want to deal with Stolas in the first place, would shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for _Blitzø._ Also, a fan base predicting something isn't necessarily a bad thing (and trying to keep the story from being something the fan base predicts is how you get GoT S8). Look at The Owl House. Look at how fast people theorized that Belos may have been a human. When the reveals came, it doesn't mean Dana and her crew were "leaning into the part of the fan base who more or less already predicted" that, she was just giving the payoff expected to the clues she'd lay, and a similar thing happened with Gravity Falls (yeah Alex did the fake leak but he didn't ruin his show just to keep audiences from guessing what would happen). If your audience predicts a plot point, it either means you did a good job laying down clues or you made everything incredibly obvious and I don't think Helluva Boss falls under the latter (tbf that's not to say they fall completely under the former either but they're far closer to that than the latter). At least they didn't pull a modern Disney and have a twist villain who we never get to learn about just to have that shock value. Also, no, the "not divorced yet" party takes place after the photo. For one, it seemed Octavia's already at least a pre teen and also, the photo is present when Stolas finds out about the party. And that does make sense cause again, naturally they'd at least _try_ to make it work before realizing it wouldn't and Octavia does have memories of her parents being happy (or at least getting along enough) so Stella's anger wasn't present or as present when the marriage first began and when Octavia was still young.

@@47ratsinahoodie 1) Him being neglectful but not blind or deaf doesn't change anything here. It was Blitz's dad who went "What does he have in his pockets? 5 bucks and a condome? That's plenty." There is a difference between extorting hundreds of thousands of souls and that. 2) I disagree. This is the most basic scenario there is for those tropes with the biggest "twist" being that Stella was actively rotten to the core and malicious to begin with, judging by the picture Paimon showd Stolas. And no, them not pulling out a random new villain does not deserve a "at least they didn't do that". 3) Right. Anger wasn't there... most extensive mocking and humilating however was. Showing that she'd been beyond "pretending anything" before Stolas reconnected with Blitz. I think it'd be best to say "Agree to disagree" I just think they could've done so much more here instead of goign with the basics.
