Will it have a cut clip effect by dragging back?
@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal 9 месяцев назад
Yes. You have to remember that if there is no information in the clip to transition from, it can transition. So if you use clips that have more information before and after the selected clip, you're good to go. Otherwise you have to modify your clip. it's a little different than some other software. Some will just duplicate the first and last frames to allow transitions to work (which causes a different problem, clip freezing) or some will automatically clip your footage which can cause other problems if you lose information you didn't want to. I always try to make sure that I leave plenty of room when I film to make my edit smoother for transitions.

I agree with the first thing you said, the second is a bit murky. Having used dozens of editing software over the years, I've found different companies handle thissituation differently. Some replicate the opening or closing frames of a fixed point segment to allow for things like a crossfade. That opens up other potentially problematic issues as you can run into "frozen action" in the cross fade. Another thing I've had to explain over the years in some software.
@reyorocio7446
@reyorocio7446 2 месяца назад
Resolve should really fix that so it does it automatically But great videos !
@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal 2 месяца назад
Some software does but it presents other issues. Some just repeat the first frame, that causes the video to freeze during the transition. Some automatically pull the video forward or backwards. That’s forces the segment out of alignment if say you’ve got it time locked to a specific voice over or synced audio. I prefer Resolve’s method of not trying to correct for information that isn’t there

@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal Год назад
Yeah, just perspective Iggy. Filmora allows you to drop a transition in regardless but it does that by replicating the first and last frames of the assets for the length of the dissolve. That also used to drive me crazy because the footage would 'freeze' in motion during the transition. It's just a difference in how the two softwares tackle the same issue. Resolve let's you know there is no prior information to start the transition from by not letting you drop that transition in place.

@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal Год назад
You might not be understanding the entire functionality here. Let's say you have three tracks. Two video tracks with attached audio and a music bed underneath where all the above tracks are timed to change with the beat of that continuous music track. If all of those clips were at their finite points as filmed (no frames before or after what existed in each in the timeline) you'd be asking the functionality to automatically move those clips back to allow for a crossfade. Software can't create footage that doesn't exist in the orignal. That would put the entire project out of sync with the music bed. Other software handle this be duplicating the opening and ending frames which leads to a different "freeze motion" problem. This is why you always want to make sure the clips in your project aren't at their finite beginning and end points if you plan on using transitions in any video editing software. That way you never run into this issue

Some will automatically squash clips together, throwing off sync if you have a consistent music or dialogue tracking underneath it. Ahh, so moving each clip back does add extra frames on the transitioning end of each clip. I never realized the transition has to start from the beginning of the left clip and extend all the way to the far end of the 2nd clip until I saw your red shading. If I created a transition system, I would just say, "this particular transition #07 needs at least 10 frames on either side of the cut to load. Once it is loaded you can drag it longer if you wish." In the BM transition system, apparently, the longer the two clips are, the longer the transition is so, transitioning two 5-min clips means a 10-minute transition? No wonder I didn't understand the mechanism. Or maybe I still don't grasp your red shading in the example. 🤣 Daniel, you are terrific and generous to keep trying to help me/us with this post and all your others. Thank you!
@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal Год назад
A little confusion there. The transition is defined be the length of the transition and nothing else. BUT, you have to have to understand you’re fading in from one clip and fading out from another. Think of it more like if those two clips were stacked on top of each other in different tracks. You’d need to place the second one so it started slightly before the first one ended so you could have a cross fade. That’s, in essence, what we’re doing in a single track
@jer3006
@jer3006 Год назад
@@Daniel_Batal In fact, stacking 2 clips with a slight overlap is precisely what I have been doing for months to create a user-friendly transition. Above the stacked clips in the overlap area I position an Adjustment clip and drop an alpha effect on it like an alpha glitch/static/lightning, then adjust the fade-in handles in all 3 clips to create the fade in crossover. It is easy to adjust the length of the Adj clip and the fade-in handles to determine a specific transition. The drawback is finding a variety of alpha effects to work as the transition effect because I have not found an actual transition that will drop onto the Adj clip (obvious now). But it is an effective alternative when you have never been able to get even one transition to work. Until now, hopefully, as I try your explanation out with actual transitions. Thank you.
