Young brothers Tashan and Diaan are so unruly that their mum thinks that without Jo’s help boarding school in India may be the only answer.
Three-year-old Grace picks holes in her face while she sucks her thumb and her parents have tried everything. Jo thinks the solution lies not with Grace herself but her older sister Ella.
At Jo’s advice roadshow she’s dealing with teenage attitude in a pint-size package and a three-year-olds bad habit that could lead to plaster casts. And she’s taking on a mission to persuade parents to spend more time getting active with their kids.

I work in a boys boarding school. Some of them are from farms and are well behaved adapt well but it's very sad when parents have allowed to let kids get out of hand to the point that they want to send the child away to become someone else's problem. Irresponsible parenting. Those children feel rejected

I begged to go to boarding school as a child as i felt rejected being in the family home. My dad never wanted kids and my mum left at 18months old so all i could see was a way out of being abused day in and day out. I wish i could have gone to boarding school would have changed my life for the better instead of leaving home at 11 years old to fend for myself

@Donnell Okafor well, to get a child you need both! So both are responsable for the child not just the woman. That means that the father is also to blame when he is abusive and bad to HIS children. BOTH parents failed to be good parents!

@Donnell Okafor I honestly don’t think the mother ”forced” him to sleep with her. Also, Tammy has every right to be upset with her father for abusing her.

It’s also a myth that boarding school is more miss behavior. There are some. But I went to boarding school bc I have a learning disability. Nothing to do with behacior. More bc it was a school that was academically suitable for kids with learning disabilities. I got a better education there then I would have at any school back home.

It's so simple. If you don't want to see a behavior in an 11 or 12 year old, stop it when it happens when they are 2 or 3. My daughter is extremely strong willed and independent, and I had to learn how to channel her energy into productive behavior - or else she'd end up in jail or worse. I am so proud of the adult she's grown up to be! All that hard work pays off.

To the people who think lack of disciplining kids is somehow a criminal offense....Parenting is very much a learned skill, nobody suddenly gets equipped with the knowledge as soon as the kid's born. Even in monekys, the older females teach younger mothers how to look after their babies. That's where the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child' comes from. Don't vilify parents, help them
@poisonedcupcake6860
@poisonedcupcake6860 Год назад
Parenting classes already exist, as adults if you don't know what you're doing, there's countless resources available to help you. It's not the problem of strangers, lack of discipline creates adults that BECOME societies problem. They're grown adults, they can go get help.

One kid asked me how they could get better at swimming when they don’t have a pool. I looked at them and said, “Get mummy or daddy or grandma and grandpa to take you to the park and just play.” They looked at me as if I was insane and I explained they need muscles. Muscles develop by use, playgrounds and climbing frames are awesome muscle developers and those muscles will help with swimming.

Very true children do need to exercise a lot. We used to live in a flat and we were very aware of not allowing our two children to run about, so every day we used to be o take to the park even if we were exhorted after working. The park was nearly and hour walk and luckily it was down hill on the way back. We used to spend a lot of time with them and we never shout at them. even the teachers used to say they were so well behave. They do remember now and they think they would never be able to dedicate the time, the patience the sacrify that imply in raising a family so having children is not their wishes and I am so glad. The demografic explotion around the world he world is a serios problem as we don't have another planet. We need more factories, more pollution to sustain the consumption of the future generations unfortunately that is the reality even if some people are very conscious about recicling. I used to live united Kingdom and I came back to my country to be in the sun t but my aim was voluntary work on rescued straight dogs given them for adoption and having them neuter and spaded in poorer areas but at the same time information about birth control. Is s so nice to see that our village parents do not have more than one child or none. Due to the o the economic growth here Chile for years and years we end up with a massive ilegal inmigration from central America, Caribe and the shanty towns thathave desappear fo years and years now they are back. Is imposible to control as we have the infinitive desert, the pacific as Chile is one of the longest and thin country in the world.

This is called no discipline at all and it is child abuse to allow them to get to this point. They are going to end up in prison because they simply do not know how to behave, how to interact with others, and they passed the age of 4 without the basic hard work. After 4 years old, you are going to have a real battle to teach them right from wrong. SMH ~~~~~

When I was little I would constantly pick at scabs on my hands and legs, either from scrapes I'd get into playing out doors or even just the cannula scars after surgeries I'd have. It went on for years and was so bad I'd poke deep holes in my skin and open the flesh, it was awful. I'm not sure I ever really knew why I did it, but it got to the point where I'd just get addicted to the pain. Then it just stopped, I can't even remember when but some time in my early teens I just didn't do it again. And no, I don't have marks from where I used to pick at them, I'm 27 now. Some I just remember from memory because they'd last for months on end, but you couldn't tell by looking at my hands where they were or that there were any at all. I'm glad I stopped of course, but I'm not sure I buy the part where a 3 year old is scarred for life from just under two years. It might last a while, but she won't be 15 with horrible visible marks on her face especially if it's tackled this soon. Mine went on for over three times as long. Ten years later, not a trace.
@alinap1915
@alinap1915 2 года назад
I feel like scarring depends on the person as well. I self harmed for a couple of years and even the smallest scratches have become raised thick scars, they've gotten better but after like 5 or so years I doubt they will get much different

With regard to the motor skills, some children simply don't have the physical capability. Back when I was a kid, doctors thought I was dyspraxic because my motor skills in many areas were so poor including my handwriting. Yet on the reverse I could thread a needle and sew, knit and do other fiddly things. My time at school and particularly PE/sports was a frustration though. Eventually I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder affecting my joints and ligaments, which doctors said was also likely to be the root cause of many of the problems I had as a kid.

One parent thinks his illness means he doesn't have to be a parent nor help around the house. I was terminally ill when I was fostering a very abused child and I took care of his every need. The mother can't be bothered to put the hard work in to correct her sons behaviour so wants to send them to boarding school. It can be really hard to raise kids, they don't come with an instruction manual. Parents should reach out to get help because lets face it a good percentage of families have at least one thing they want to change.

I was 21 when I stopped sucking my fingers...because there was a fella in my bed with me, and I just couldn't do it in front of him. I was 13 before I could tell time on an analog clock. Some of us are late bloomers. That said, if ONLY my parents had understood what Nanny Jo does....that sucking fingers are a comfort mechanism. The understanding of analog...well, that's likely part of the ADHD but because I was an adult when diagnosed, it's ultimately hard to know for sure.

i very much relate to the 14 year old medina at the mall, having fear of balloons and loud noises. Yes you can get therapy and yes you can deal with coping anxiety and yes you can get diagnosed for hypersensitivity, but the key element is actually our natural instintcs to loud sudden noises. We as biological creatures as well as any other animal, were never meant to live in a world with so loud noises everywhere and so many people in huge crowds. It's extremely overstimulating our senses and is also the reason why children and baby's can get stressed, overstimulated or even traumatised by being in a place with too loud noises for a little child, and too many people with thousands of different emotions. A child learns a lot from facial expressions and either being understimulated or overstimulated can affect the development of the child's understanding of emotion. So i don't think ou necessarily need to go to therapy for it unless its restraining you from going out, but just learn how to cope with it, because i too was so scared of balloons as a child that i was never invited or sent to children's birthdays, because of the stress of the possibility of a balloon popping was giving me.

@sarahsnowe

I sympathize, but who is going to police this policy? How are you going to stop women getting pregnant? Or is compulsory abortion or seizure of newborns in the plan if parents fail the exam? Who marks this exam and decides who is too feckless to have kids? It's pretty obvious that there would be a discriminatory class distinction here. Wouldn't it be better if we could level the social playing field and provide a living wage, decent housing, and appropriate levels of education (including sex ed and parenting ed) for all? Parenting education at schools, including having to take home a robot baby that cries half the night and won't be quiet until you "feed" or change it, has been very successful.

I totally disagree with her advice about fussy eaters. I was extremely fussy as a kid, there were so many things I hated the taste of (or perhaps my mother was simply a bad cook) but I can’t count the amount of times I went to bed crying and hungry. As a consequence I didn’t grow (I am a 4’11 adult). When I was old enough that I could go to the shops and buy whatever I chose with my pocket money I would buy chocolate, icecream, sweets and anything that took my fancy. That new-found freedom started a lifetime of overeating just so I would never go hungry again. I am now an obese 4’11” adult. I still feel emotional at times when I can’t find something I like to eat.
