I help my wife tune her own bow with her new arrows for the first time. This video is intended to show new archers how to bare shaft tune their barebow or recurve. Bare shaft tuning a bow for the first time can seem intimidating but I share expertise to a new archer on how simple bare shaft tuning can be.
I will be editing and uploading the how to fletch for beginner video here soon.

I'd also like to add that I 100% agree that having Heather in these videos to ask questions that you might not think of is absolutely a benefit.

Without sounding rude it would sound more respectful to refer to each other by first names. I know it's not my business but it likely effects other viewers too.

Sounds to me like the arrow was too weak to start with, like start with a stiffer spine....When I tune, I consult the tables, then try different spines, then point weight, then length. I don't think 1 and a half inches is going to make any meaning difference here. It looks like the arrow started hitting the riser and that's going to take some radical change to get stiff enough that the back of the arrow straightens before it hits the riser. You have lightened that arrow so much now, that I would be concerned that you have an arrow that meet the minimum GPI of the bow.

OK. Why don't we just shoot bare shafts and adjust the tuning until we get one that hits the centre of the tafget every time, the just build all our arrows to the same spec, and put vanes on them?

A bit confused. You knew the draw weight on the bow. Surely that would have given you a very close approximation to the correct arrow spline? Or are the arrow charts just pure fiction?

I only have 3 things to say. 1. I am Heather's BIGGEST FAN! 2. This video is so full of win and barebow goodness. I can't even.... Just please keep doing them. 3. Good luck to both of you at your comp in a couple weeks!

I watch this video and now all my problems just feel like tune issues. Great video. Great lessons. Always learning to make sure I’m better than I was before.

The most enjoyment I got was teaching my three girls how to shoot a compound bow for three D . I knew I had trained them well when they always place in the top three . As they got older they lost interest but we all had a good time . This is a great family sport !

Hi Jake, This video is very old - just over a year now, but I wanted to thank you for making this series. Although I am currently working on a trad setup, a lot of the information (specifically this video) has really helped to fine tune my equipment. I am working toward getting a barebow setup in the near future and will be able to apply even more of your videos there as well. Once again, just wanted to say thank you for your help and information provided. - Mike

This is an excellent video material to learn about barebow tuning. Heather's questions helped a lot in clearing up some of the things I wanted to ask. This is what I've been searching for, as it shows the specifics, i.e., in numbers the effects on of:

My understanding of bow/arrow tuning went up about 1,000% by watching your video. Also, the way you communicate with each other; so much honesty, so much patience and humility. It's just wonderful to watch. You could branch out into teaching how to communicate with your spouse. Keep up the great work and thank you so much!
