Hi all,
in todays video I am trying to help my subscribers with their problem cases.
To participate in part 2 please:
- Send an email to enquiries@sydneyplantguy.com and use subject matter 'Dr SPG'
- Include a video (max. 1m long) or photos of your plant & the area it is in. If your video is already on social media you can just include a link. If your content it too large to attach to an email, you can use wetransfer.com/ for free
- please include plant ID if possible
- in the body of your email provide detail about the history of the plant and the conditions it is grown in (e.g.: I received the plant in the mail 2 days ago etc)
- Please include your name (if you want) and where you are from
I will try my best to feature as many submissions as possible in the video but please note that my knowledge around plants is limited to the type of plants I grow myself (mainly aroids)! I have no care tips to share about a Fiddle Leaf Fig for example so don’t waste your time asking about them 😂😉

Hi! Gustavo (from the El Choco Red) here! You were right on! I also think it was fungal, and ended up cutting the leaf out. The problem seems to be solved. I treated it for brown rot. The other leaf is now 100%. About the temperature, the 11º is inside too - we don't really have heaters in Brazil lol Difficulty: staying patient! But thank you so, so much for featuring my question!

Very interesting video! The product “Equilibrium” is made in the USA, it is somewhat like CalMag. It’s meant for aquarium owners who use reverse osmosis or distilled water to restore and maintain the mineral balance so that plants in the aquarium grow better. The product contains calcium, magnesium, manganese and potassium. The producers make a big point that the product does not contain sodium or chloride. So it’s another product for fish tanks, like fluval stratum, that indoor plant growers use. 🌱🌱🌱🌱

Alocasia Cuprea needs more water because of the terracotta pot. I would first remove it and put it in a plastic pot and perhaps pot it up with more Tree Fern Fiber so it can hold more for longer. I know mine being indoors and setup the way I recommend here still needs more water especially as the leaf growth. It’s under 8 Barina lights too, so it loves light.
@melanieg.9092
@melanieg.9092 Месяц назад
Interesting! Didn't get to that part in the video yet but mine turns down it's leaves at more than medium light and needs to dry out a lot in between waterings 🤔
@LeafyConversations
@LeafyConversations Месяц назад
@@melanieg.9092 I would say my new leafs are standing straight up due to the Grow lights, but the older leaves tend to go in all sorts of directions. Hopefully as your leaves grow they’ll stand straight up. Wow, mine dries out so fast, but I think it’s because of the high light and its pushing huge leaves.
@melanieg.9092
@melanieg.9092 Месяц назад
Concerning the Alocasia and Flowers: it definitely grew that amount of flowers because you kept cutting them! If you read up on LariAnn Garner (a famous Alocasia grower) then she mentions how the gormonal cycle of alocasia and other plants makes them produce 1-2 flowers yearly but will continue doing so until they are allowed to ripen so to say! I think we as growers will have to accept some plants being horny once in a while 😂
@melanieg.9092
@melanieg.9092 Месяц назад
LariAnn Garner also mentions that as soon as we can recognize a Alocasia flower as such (no matter how expeeienced) the plant has already put a substantial amount of energy into it and will keep on loosing that energy by us cutting it off

hello from cz! I love the way you give advice, (especially about alocasias 🤣), and I love watching your videos :) I am here to confirm that anthuriums can survive in normal conditions in a regular living room. I have 2 pallidiflorums and a vittarifolium on a shelf, and the humidity is usually around 55-60 %, gets a bit higher at night when the widows are closed. I live on the top floor and I use the aircon in the afternoons to get down to bearable 27-28 C temperature, which unfortunately takes out the humidity from the air, and even with a humidifier running all day, it sometimes gets as low as 40 %. I only got the pallidiflorum two weeks ago, and they are baby plants, I assume they were grown in a "milsbo cabinet" type thing, and I was really worried they won't make it. However, all 3 of my anthuriums seem to thrive, and one of my pallidiflorums is already giving me a new leaf :) so don't worry, it can be done! 🥳🩺🩺🩺🩺
