great video, and I appreciate it as well! as a newer pipe smoker myself with ZERO legit tobacco places within around 100 miles. I immediately turned to youtube and all of the videos from all of the seasoned pipe smokers helped me alot and really kept my interest up in the hobby when I first got going! Who knows if I would still be smoking pipes without channels like yours! Thanks! and keep it up!
Cool. Thanks men for thinking like that. I haven't trip at all since I started last November cuz first I am 39 yrs old and second cuz I know when you like something you must keep hard on what you like so it is a pleasure to hear what you have done. Have a great evening.
Thanks for thinking like that my friend. I was a cigar smoker and I really loved my cigars but men when I tried pipe last November it was awesome!!! Tasty and and even the smoke in my face I can enjoy and now all I want is pipe, I still have my humidor and cigars but Pipe is what I really enjoy now and I just want to thank you cuz all I know about pipe smoking is because of guys like you here on youtube.
I've taught probably 5 people how to smoke a pipe. It's really rewarding to run into them a year or two down the road and see them grow and enjoy their hobby
When I decided to start smoking a pipe a few months ago I went straight to the RU-vid community. My mind is still blown by the love and support I found here. At first I thought I was just lucky enough to run into the right people... But truth be told you guys put out so many great videos and are so willing to reach out and help that it doesn't take much effort to learn. All you guys deserve so much credit for bringing noobs like me up and making this community incredibly special. Thank you! Cheers =]
+Leon Moody That's what it's all about my friend! I'm glad to hear you've been able to learn so much from the RU-vid pipe presenters. Best of luck with your journey into the world of Pipe smoking!
You’re so right about this we here over the pond are going through a hard patch a lot of the old shop are no longer there pipe smoking is no longer the thing to do we can’t get the choice of tobacco we once did I learned from this community, if there was more people in this world like you perhaps things would be better all round thank you all 🍻🍻🍻
My mentor was curiosity. I learnt through youtube, facebook and so on. I got myself a good first pipe, a Savinelli Florence, but a horrible first tobacco, P. Stokkebye B&B, an aromatic that did nothing for me. Thankfully I gave a try a few other blends and now my collection is over 20 pipes and 20 blends. Almost 4 years since I started, I started at 19. I just stumbled upon your channel and even if it did not help me in the begining, I thank you for helping that guy that could have been me.
If there isn't a YTPC "Man of the Year" award, maybe there should be. We could solicit similar stories from other YTPC members about how they helped someone get started, or, better yet, get the testimonial from the guys that were helped and nominate worthy "helper" candidates each year. I wish I had run into someone like you way back when. You have my nomination. I just recently found you and subscribed myself.
Nice video and GREAT story as well as GREAT job helping a neophyte. When I was in college, all I had was the Dr. Grabow display case at the corner drug store. Love the message of this video and glad you're over that nasty cold. Blessings, my friend!
I really enjoyed this video Mike. It's really great that you gave your time like that so graciously. That young man ran in to the perfect person. Peace
Very good video I am a new pipe smoker and fumbling my way through it, thanks to the YTPC I am learning some of the basics which is a very good thing but like you have done there is nothing like a 1 on 1 experience, I am one of the ones you mention with a few videos and a couple subs, which is very kool. thank you for posting
+JB's_Beard See that's what I told the kid. So many people try to smoke a pipe and due to lack of knowledge fail at it and give up. I knowI was one of them who almost gave up the pipe because I burned my tongue so many times I couldn't taste my wife's cooking anymore.....which sometimes can be a good thing LOL!!
What a cool video! I am a new guy. I received a pipe in my Christmas stocking, and I’m totally in love with smoking a pipe!! I’m very excited to get involved with the YTPC! I am currently building a pipe smoking den here at my house!! It will double as the studio for my new channel for new pipe guys, like myself! I’ll send you a link as soon as I have one! Thanks so much! My name is Matt. You probably made that kids day!!! I’ve been made to feel welcome by many of YTPC’s most respected guys!! Any new guys or anybody else interested in trading some samples or something would be really awesome!!!! Budget is my largest obstacle!! Hahaha! I want to try everything!!! I’m having a blast! Thank you for the video! Have a great day!!
It does me good to hear the knowledge passing to the younger folks! I first started smoking occasionally 3 years ago. I had a similar experience when I first started smoking that your apprentice had. It wasn’t pleasant smoking that first couple of tins. My Eureka moment was when I smoked artisan blend and tasted different flavors due to slower cadence which I did NOT have those first few tins. One thing I recommend is for a new pipe smoker to steer clear of subtle blends and don’t worry so much about relighting. Really love all the info for the newer smokers keep it going. Have a good smoke Cheers!
Osiyo - Hello, I loved the video. I just started smoking pipes just a few years ago. lol even though my tribe has been smoking pipes since the first pipe was made. I to wish there was more of those out there who will take their time to help those like me who are beginners. Where im located there is no one to teach me and I learned what little I know from those on youtube in the pipe smoking community.
Hey Smokin Briar! This video just blew me away. I live in hendersonville NC right outside of Asheville. Recently I just went to B&B tobacconist and purchased my first pipe about 2 months ago. When thru the exact same situation, except you weren't there unfortunately. Ended up buying a nice little Rossi pipe and a couple ounces of Carolina home tobacco and habe really enjoyed the new hobby thus far. Anyways, its nice to know your in the area. Happy smoking.
I really enjoyed this video, I can relate to the 18 year old from the shop very well as I am in the exact same position currently! I only wish I could run in to someone like you to help guide me through it!
Hey we need more nice people like you! I was new to the pipe world last year and I live not that far from you and I had a nice guy help me out at the JR cigars store in Burlington help me to find what I needed and get me on my first steps! I live outside of Asheboro and Greensboro.
Thanks for the video.. That would be me.... I'm so glad you guys and gals are out there.. I'm learning more each video.. Long time cigar smoking.. Find that I like the pipe better I could probably ask you 25 questions... I did a thank you video to the pipe community for all the help more to come.. But I'm still the novice saw your video on tongue bite... Yup that is also me.. Trying to slow down.. Thanks again and great job man helping the kid... The community is as great as I thought it was
I actually have a New Pipe Smokers Kit that I put together that I give to them when I find someone who is interested in trying pipe smoking, I am planning to do a video on it tomorrow. It's a great idea to take these new guys under our wings and guide them so they don't have to make some of the same mistakes we did. That's what a community is all about.
Hey man, right on! I'm a recent sub to your channel, and a re-comer to the pipe deal; smoked in the 80's & picked it back up recently. Very thankful for Hilman, BayAreaPiper, Scott/Aristocob, Matches860, you & others for showing me the ropes -- again! I've tried to get a few extra cobs to pass along to guys I bump into who are interested... Thx for this vid, tho; you're right on!
Yep, just had a guy message me this week. Just turned 18 & is determined to smoke a pipe. We take our knowledge for granted often times, but we need to stop and remember how confusing it was when we started.
+Matches860 Hell John I'm still confused LOL! But you're right....we take for granted what others are trying hard to learn! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thank you for watching!
I'm a regular at B&B. What you witnessed is part of the paradox of pipe smoking: We're a no-BS crowd, and it's hard for us to attract young folks who are used to a lot of BS. Which is not to defend the salesman. Planning a VR to this one soon . . .
+Defiant Pipes What does that mean? I don't get what you're saying. What does no BS have to do with helping out a new customer? The salesman was more interested in hanging out with his buddies and smoking his own cigar than helping out this new guy. That's just wrong in my opinion. Thanks for commenting.
+Smokin' Briar Sorry, posted that in haste at a late hour. Yes, it is wrong. It's also very typical of B&Ms, which are largely just social clubs for curmudgeons. I think it's a failing of pipe smokers in general that this sort of thing happens so regularly, and I appreciate you going out of your way to help a new guy.
Hi Mike ;yep, I assume we all have that opportunity to help new pipers if even me wanted to, Ps,Nice Meerchaum You've got its best bet to buy a quality stuff-once I had me a Peterson one meer but so i was stupid I got rid of it because it seemed me to turn the smoke too weak, man, coulda been smoked the stronger one blend in it,,but now this all long gone, Greets, Paul
Greetings Paul! I enjoy helping out new Pipe smokers. I think if we help them get started, they will stick with it. So many give up on it because they have nobody to teach them the basics and they get discouraged and give up. Ya know, I've tried these meershaum pipes and they just aren't for me. I gave them a good honest try, but I just don't care for them. I'll stick with my briar LOL! Be well.....
Nice Browning hat. Do you bow hunt and or shotgun/rifle hunt deer? I have a Browning bow for deer and a Browning Citori shotgun that I shoot skeet with.
Thank you for the video. A newer Piper myself and a lot of the veterans have been really approachable with advice and information on YT and IG. I in turn jump at the chance to help those newer than me with information to the hobby. There really is a lack of knowledge in the B&Ms with pipe smoking as most of them cater to cigars, even in the larger cities. Great reminder video. @kadesdado on IG
