There is a lot of pseudoscience in tobacco smoking. My mouth burned no matter what. The best advice I have had from experience is to breathe through your mouth. Its never necessary to dry out your tobacco. If aromatic tobacco is left out to dry, the volatile essential oils it contains would gradually evaporate. These essential oils are responsible for much of the tobacco's scent and flavor. When exposed to air, especially in dry or warm conditions, the oils will start to break down or dissipate, leading to a loss of aroma and flavor over time. This is why it's important to store aromatic tobacco in airtight containers to preserve its quality.

It happens in the first 20 draws-toast the tobacco with a small torch lighter much as you would a cigar. Let the flame do the work!!

THANK YOU!!!! This has been a great help. I’ve been smoking a pipe for years and never really knew why I got tongue bite. It didn’t happen every time but when it did it was not a pleasant experience.

Finally, I have solved your tongue bite. Smoke through a pipe made of corn and you will notice the difference.

Have been smoking over 30 years and I agree with you 100%. Savinelli also makes Rossi they are the same pipe. Just acquired a Bones pipe that is just as good a smoker as my Petersons or Savinelli.

Not so simple as drying your tobacco real well. Dry tobacco is like a brush fire in my mouth. Best advice I've heard is the "Goldie Locks method". "Not too moist. Not too dry. Just right."

This was one of the most helpful pipe smoking videos that I have seen in a while. I dearly love Virginia's and the flavor that they bring, but I now know I have been committing two mistakes: First, I have been rubbing out the flakes so fine that they resembled snuff (not really, but you get it....). Next, when charring the first light, I really threw the flame to it and held it way too long. I look forward to reversing these bad habits and getting a cooler smoking experience. Thanks.

I stumbled across your video just trying to better understand the different blends. I just starting smoking a pipe last week at 55 yrs old. Glad to know about the low nicotine tobaccos, beggar my lifestyle is not going to allow me to smoke everyday, but there may be a 3-4 day stretch where I could smoke a bowl every day. I’d like to avoid a nicotine addiction, so knowingthat the Latakia, oriental, and red Virginia’s are lowest in inviting content is very helpful information! I wish you the best health wise!

Good video thanks, So what would be the value to buy a hand carved rusticated pipe? I rather get a high end briar machine made, my conclusion is rather pay for smooth pipe the best you can afford, provides you like rusticated and smooth finishes.

I’m a new pipe smoker and a vascular technologist, your explanation was spot on and very clear. Great work, the only thing to add is strong alcohol and smoking can be problematic. The strong alcohol strips away the mouth mucosa and allows inflammation of the gums and tongue . Great explanation !!

I don’t know where you’re getting the Cavendish taste from. There is no cavendish in this blend. The dark fired Kentucky overpowers the Virginia and Perique.

I heard you say Boswell’s wouldn’t sell individual tobaccos or custom blends to you. The only place I know of that does that is LJ Peretti. This is an old video so someone probably already recommended them to you but just in case. Thanks for your videos, they’ve been helpful

Another great video, I am a new pipe smoker, for around 2 months. Prior to buying my first pipe (a cob of course!) I watch many many videos on tobacco reviews and such. But there isn't many for the beginners. Thank you for this one because I've suffered from tongue bit quite often. Some tobacco enthusiast show how to prep and smoke flake tobaccos. I wish I had seen them before I finish my tin of G.L.Pease Quiet night. So, I have A Peterson Aran bent billiard , My first real pipe , And suffered from tongue bite , very hot bowl, and a very wet smoke. Thank you for the info It really helped me out. Just before I started this video I paused it, filled the afore mentioned pipe and had the usual result. I came back in watched your video went back outside and had the best smoke from that pipe ever!!! So it wasn't the carter hall tobacco although it is a virginia burly mix so it's a little spicy but nice. Wonderful tobacco witch makes me happy cuz I bought 14oz of it lol. Thanks again for the great video. Maybe some day down the road I will make my own videos.I live in massachusetts so there are tons of historic places that would make great back drops for pipe smoking !!!!

hey is there any update. i had this idea too. i just put about 5grams in some water and let soak then dried it out with a inferred heat lamp. Surely, surely this washes off half of the poison shit they purpously add like rocket fuel etc so if must be safer

I started to dry my tobacco already. Also I stay away from Aromatics and what little is left I mix with Dark Fired Kentucky. Also I will not smoke the Crinkle Flake I bought. Even drying it did not help. I do not think Perique is for me. Trivia: Latakia is named after the town of the same name in Syria.

I have watched a couple videos on this topic by some popular guys. They showed completely different ways and had different opinions. I think your way and opinion is far better and makes sense. I am glad I found your channel and taking your time to help us newer and in some cases older pipe smokers. These videos are priceless and saves us years of making mistakes and improves our journey. Thank you.
