Every time I listen to this it simply reaffirms my thinking that this is absolutely the best performance of Helplessly Hoping I have heard. Both instrumentally and vocally.
This is a magnificent performance by the singers, by the guitarist, and especially by the recording engineer. I don't think I've ever heard a better live recording.
This shows Toby's guitar versatility. With brilliant jazz and rock solos in many F&F tunes he shines. Here he demonstrates his precision finger-style technique that's spot on down to the slightest detail. Couple that with Darwin and you have a guitar powerhouse for all occasions. Every member has a musical gift to bring to the table.
They're doing what they want to do -- and still playing and singing for us. These days, we can kick in a few bucks here: foxesandfossils.com/ff-virtual-tip-jar
@@ralphbarhydt8974: As I said, they are doing what they want to do. Two of the Foxes are engaged in different careers, some of the Fossils are retired, Chase is pursuing a career as a solo vocalist, they live in different states, etc. Keep watching them here on RU-vid, tell your friends to come join us, drop some virtual coins into the tip jar and everyone will be happy.
Ditto. The scene, in which people seem to be in attendance, but not really listening to the music, is - not surprising - but disappointing to me. How many times do you see a competent group like this nailing the covers. And they don't seem to be appreciating it. Its like a background to their own "thing", whatever that is, that they are doing. Such quality demands attentiveness, and I'm not seeing that this is happening with that crowd. Most all groups cannot ascend to this version of proficiency, and yet, these people seem to have no concept, which I find strange. They should be crowding the edges of the performance area in appreciation. To me? This is an easy thing to do, it is just part of what a group should be - but we all know that groups are NOT this way - this proficiency and quality does not exist among them, but they treat these guys as if they were just any group. SIGH.
This is one of my all time favorite Harmony songs. I wonder if folks know how hard this song is to do live? Even CSN had a hard time accomplishing a good live take. Y'all did it fantastic, Guitar, Harmony, Tone, Vocalization were spot on!
I can't imagine sitting in that audience in that very informal venue and having the bucket passed looking for a few bucks for the girls college fund,, dropping in a $5 bill, then being treated to that unbelievable talent. A once in a lifetime experience!
These girls are coming into a real estate market like they’re 30 years late on a Monopoly game. Add another $5 in the bucket for there future cash down payment and mortgage.
Wenn ein Song mit solch einer klaren musikalischen / stimmlichen Darbietung einem die Tränen in die Augen führt, dann sagt genau dieser Song alles aus! WUNDERBAR!!!!
Like most F&F fans I assume, I’ve watched this video dozens of times and keep coming back to it. The obvious is the great harmonies by Tim, Maggie, and Sammie. The less obvious is Toby’s picking of the background music. If you really concentrate on his playing and try to tune out the vocals you will hear clean perfect picking of every note. Hat’s off Toby, great job.
I KNOW it's my second comment. And, I've most certainly lost track of the number of times I've listened to this specific, amazing cover of CSN. The other one I've listened to countless times is: "Suite Judy Blue Eyes".____ Tim, Sammie, Maggie, all of your voices combine to one of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard in all my years of listening to some REALLY GREAT music. I can absolutely tell you put in the time & practice necessary... to consistently sing these melodic, gentle harmonies. In sync, on key and in tempo... every single time. Thanks for your dedication & effort to produce studio quality music ~ LIVE ~ for people to enjoy. For those people who are blessed to hear "Foxes & Fossils" live, I hope they're paying attention. This is one talented, hard working & gifted group of vocalists... and musicians. THANK YOU TIM... for all your efforts in keeping the girls involved singing this great music!
My band would have never stopped playing if the technology of the in ear monitors were available. This is a great band and I enjoy the rounded version of songs they put on YT
Great sound, great Harmonies. Acoustic guitarist seemed to be right on with his finger style and notes. The harmonies when one is singing the the word 2 both are singing harmony and 3 together the 3rd comes in and they are 4 ,and drop out at each other. Harmonies were tight and backed out right when he said each other. Just great harmonies. Perfect. I really loved this version, best I've heard so far. And there were 2 foxes with the fossils. I'm a fossil and miss playing acoustic and singing with various friends back when I was in my teens and early 20's. I switched to playing classical for awhile, toured 13 countries in Europe. But also was playing rock ,blues and metal. I've started going back to acoustic the past few years. But since moving to a small country town I haven't found anyone playing acoustic. They all want to shred. Keep up the music it's enjoyable and always keep it as part if your life. If it wasn't for music and playing, I wouldn't be here today. Guitar has helped me through so many trials and tribulations. I lost interest for awhile due to certain circumstances and now trying to find my way back. I know it will help but depression can grab your heart away at times. It would be nice to have someone to play and sing songs with, even if it was just adlibing which I Do alot of. Peace and keep music by your side never let it wonder away. If it does grab a close friend or fellow musician to help find your way back to the spark.
I thought the the harmonies were some of the best ive ever heard . Thanks for pointing that out , Im not a musician , but was so curious why it sounded so wonderful . It was those Harmonies , so smooth and soft and flow .
@Tim Purcell, thanks Tim for posting all these cover songs by F&F & especially Helplessly Hoping. When my Wife & I got married, she didn't know that I played guitar, let alone I could sing either. I got out my acoustic guitar & I played this song for her. I didn't know it until then, that it was one of her favorite songs & her most favorite song by CS&N. I believe I won her heart ''Forever'' that night, simply because I sang this song to her & only her. Even today, she loves to hear me play it. Thanks again for posting this one on RU-vid.....
Never heard of this group until today. Instant fan!!! But in my defence I live in Australia. But this group is ASTOUNDINGLY good! Their harmony work is sublime. Their material selection is right out of my record collection. Their instrumental prowess is just the ticket. I'm a radio dj here, and I listen to a LOT of music. As a result, it takes quite something special to impress me nowadays I"M IMPRESSED!! Love these folks. MORE MORE MORE!!!
@@lynwessel2471 Thank youj Lyn. I've had a very enjoyable few hours since I discvered this group going through their videos one by one. I found the Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and my jaw hit the table when I learned that was their first ever show! My Giddy Aunt what talent! And i am i awe of how Tim is keeping the band in existence despite the girls being scattered all over the country. I am thinking of extracting the audio from one or two fo the songs and playing them on my syndicated bluegrass/acoustic country show in Washington DC and Virginia.
Listening to Maggie’s part, she’s singing a complicated harmony part. Switching from an upper to a lower register and just nailing it. This is a great band. Just incredible talent.
Many comments on this channel about Sammie's harmony, Maggie is evey bit as good if you listen for it.Tim has this mixed so you can pick out Maggie's part in the left channel and Sammie on the right.I love following Maggie's part.
The greatest (maybe the only) value of Social Media is finding hidden gems like Foxes and Fossils. I'm not going to say they are better than the originals they cover -- but they are damned good and I love the variety or genres and eras of music they are willing to take on. I'm a big fan.
Agree. Music like this is not only beautiful but also what brings a tear to my eye is the actual time frame in which I first heard it…a much simpler time In life… it takes me back to a time when I carried an am radio everywhere with me hoping the Dj would play this song ( and calling the radio station begging to play this song!) A different life back then… maybe the finest time I ever knew. ☮️
These “guys” don’t need fame, they have each other, music, friendship, love, satisfaction. Just check out the comments, I have never seen so much pleasure given by any other RU-vid channel/group, they have love in bucketloads. Love from UK, every morning I listen, so much pleasure, thanks so much xx
Just when you thought that music was going down hill, along comes F&F. I'm so great full to my friend . Jack, who recommended them.Get ready, F&F are here and we are so happy and thrilled . Real music!!!
Don't know how many times I have listened to this, it still literally sends chills down my spine. Surviving this $#!^ imprisonment without F&F would have been a far grimmer affair.
It's the harmonies ... plain and simple ... add some fine musicianship and you have the perfect modern-day You Tube sensation ... like CSN, the Eagles and other groups of that era ... Tim Purcell, you have created pure magic. Thanks to all concerned. Please continue to share your talent with the world ...
Okay. There's covers and there's covers. This group goes so beyond "cover" as to redefine the song and its delivery. I can't put any more than one thumbs up in the rating, but if I could there'd be a million of them.
I have always been a Crosby Stills Nash fan. Great to see this band get some props...One of the few bands that was pulled together to make a kick ass group.
I totally agree. This version is hands down the best anywhere. And that includes any version sung by CSN themselves. It's just exquisite. It always makes me cringe a bit that Tim has to say "that really wasn't half bad" due to the lack of applause from the audience.
I so agree! I listen to so many youtube postings/bands and the F&F's covers are over the top great. Starting with raw talent of the band and the ROCK SOLID and BEAUTIFUL VOCALS. I can't believe they haven't 'launched'. Strange I just came across them in 2019 and they have been playing since... 2010 it appears. Sure hope you girls are still singing. I haven't come across a posted song yet that wasn't amazing.
Right? I've been listening to this for about 2 years and it's incredulous to me that a live, patio performance can be so artistically perfect. Not a breath or note that isn't fully accurate. As a life-long musician, I find this level of performance almost supernatural.
stumbled on these folks last night, their "Judy Blue Eyes". Woke up with it stuck in mind, then an hour later found this. It's been on loop ever since. I am stupified how pretty is this sound.
You're in luck, Buddy. About 70 great performances, from spring of 2010 up to a few days ago, posted in this channel. Click on the little round photo up ^^^ there to go to the channel home page. The band's website: foxesandfossils.com
Growing up and living through the Beatles, all the 60s 70s and 80s groups who did harmonies Foxes and Fossils are as good or better than the originals, absolutely no doubt about that
Omg! No words! Absolutely beautiful, no just the talent but your honesty in telling the story. Something big record has forgotten how to do. Thank you F&F
What beautiful voices and harmony. This band is better than 99% of what's there on YT !! Better than the original bands, and I'm a fan of CSN !! Incredible...someone else said they are America's best kept secret, which is true.
Every time I listen to this version of this song, I AM CONVINCED that this is the VERY BEST EXAMPLE of three-part harmony ... BRILLIANT ... MY FAVOURITE FOXES AND FOSSILS RECORDING!!!
I come back to this every couple of months for 2 or 3 listens in a row. Such a wonderfully simple and beautiful song absolutely crushed by you guys. Bravo !
