when i pull hemis i made a plate that bolts where the intake bolts and then drilled the plate where one of those holley square bore engine plates bolt to it i set it where the middle hole gives the engine a little slant to connect easily to the trans. i also have installed a harbor freight 2500lb winch on my cherry picker where all i do is set the hoist to a high position and then use the remote control so i can be close to the engine and not have to be pumping jack or releasing can hold motor and position it with one hand and use the other hand to mast buttons on remote to lower or raise the engine makes it so much easier. if you want to see how i mounted and set it up i have one video on it on you tube at Dependable auto truck i am going to to a better video on it step by step later on

I built a new engine from the new block up. I know I watched this guys videos, but shit I guess I didn't really listen. I probably used cheap head gaskets, not the cheapest though, and for various reasons I went through 4 sets of head bolts. Now, two years later, I'm pulling the engine to replace a very small head gasket leak, valve cover leak, and a blown rear main seal. I've been upset because I'm a good mechanic and know the right way of doing all of this. I'd definitely say I'm a victim of cheap parts. I was on a budget at the time and did what I had to do. I'm so damn glad I watched this video again for all the small tips.

I just finished installing new Cylinder Heads on my own 2005 Dodge Magnum. No dropped valve seat, but I overheated the engine multiple times previously, so I want to change them for peace of mind. Your videos were incredibly helpful and they made doing this with my limited mechanical experience a much better experience. Thank you so much for doing these. My magnum has been running and driving perfectly since.

Seems like if the head bolts dont go in smooth and easy, it could be because they're stretched. Could run a nut down each of them to see if they're stretched.

Any time you do an angle turn for final turn is torque to yield stretched. Never reuse. That's is what I was taught. I had to redo the head gasket cuz of cheap head gasket and reusing the stock bolts on my hemi. Spend the money for Mopar stock gaskets and bolts!

I'm not sure how you figure the first part of your comment. What exactly is the difference between turning the wrench to achieve a certain torque spec, and turning the wrench to achieve a specific angle? You're still tightening the fastener either way correct?

What’s the difference between the two heads? I didn’t know there was one. As far as rocker arms and push rods go, I think all that is the same. What did they change for the Eagles?? I’ve only owned pre-eagle and I think it’ll stay that way after seeing all the camshaft and lifter failures. I had a lifter failure in my pre eagle 5.7 but it was 100% because of me idling the dog shit out of my car. It would be on, just to be on lol. Lifter doesnt get much oil at idle.

Do I have to raise the engine to change out the oil pan gasket or can I just drop the oil pump pickup tube with the pan? And secondly; do I have to pull the heads to change the cam (to a 6.4 cam) or can I spin the old cam which I’ve heard will raise the lifters up in their bores? And lastly; will I absolutely need springs for the 6.4 cam and will I need to tune it after? Thanks bud

Thanks a bunch for the informative video. I struggle with whether to do the replacement head on my 2008 Magnum R/T. I did replace a lot of the coolant related parts last year. If you're still monitoring comments, I'd appreciate your opinion about what to upgrade on this motor if I want to add a supercharger. The motor just turned over 100k miles yesterday. I have read on dodge forums that the pistons on this motor are not strong enough for a SC, especially with a lot of miles on it. I'd love to just swap out the 5.7 for a 6.1, but they're near impossible to find. Thoughts?

Awesome video, I do have a question, though. I replaced Cam and lifters because of cylinder 6 mis, then after putting everything back together, I started the vehicle up and hesitant to start and won't stay running, showing cylinder 3 mis now. No comp on cylinder 3 so I pulled heads to try and find out why. Pulled lifters and all look good camera showed no damage to cam and checked 3 times to make sure it is in time, so I re installed everything and n9w cylinder 3 intake pushrod wont go down all of the way. When rocker arm assembly is installed finger tight, it starts to get pressure on intake valve on cylinder 3 and opens it while the rest are closed. Any help would be greatly appreciated
@ReignitedAuto
@ReignitedAuto Год назад
You have to remember that at any given point in an engine cycle at least two of the cylinders are probably in motion to start opening the intake valve, so it's completely normal to have that issue as you are tightening down the rocker arms. My suggestion would be to double check all of your pushrod installation, make sure they are all in the correct position on the backside of the lifter, and also, once the rocker arms are on go ahead and rotate the engine twice by hand to make sure all the rockers are actuating correctly and the pushrods are fully seated before reinstalling the valve covers. 👍

Generally yes if the lifter has failed you'll need to replace the cam as well. In rare instances where the customer has caught the problem early enough they could get away with just lifters but I don't recommend it. If you're feeling confident I have quite a few videos that can help you through the process, it's not that bad really. A novice mechanic could get it done in a weekend 👍
