Installing Greene Racing camshaft and hearing how it sounds (note) I did not ask for a choppy idle because it's my daily and I leave for work very early in the morning
Would’ve been cool if you left in the parts where he struggled with the cam to see how he got it without damaging the cam, I know they can be tricky sometimes so sharing some tips or tricks could be quite helpful
This video was more disappointing than the last time I called customer service for restoration parts on my carburetor. Hacks at my last shop cut corners like these idiots seemed to be and threw away the choke plate, screws and linkage rod (No actual name given for that piece that I could find on God's Green Earth). No one wants to listen to this music any more than a veteran calling the VA wants to listen to their On Hold music.
Never use a rough discs on two smoothe mating surfaces. If I seen some one do that shit to my motor i would have slapped the back of his head off. All you need is a good scraper
All that work.!! No cam lube, or break in procedure..I am curious how many miles u got b4 failure..? 2000..? Sounds like my 2012 jeep grand cherokee with exhaust...dont hear any chop @ all....!! Anyways...just sayin...
Sounds pretty damn good I did mine before I installed my new engine😊Thanks for the video..A lot of people don’t get to see what us mechanics have to do😏
I have 2011 dodge ram 1500 5.7l. Installed stage 2 cam no tune yet have an appointment on the 9th to get tune but can hardly drive getting a to rich code. My question did you have same problem also for the 545rfe tans do you know of a good stall to put in there thanks?
Sloppy mechanic. Using a 3M pad on the heads is a no no. Aluminum shreds away fast. On the cast iron block it was fine. He should have laid some towels over the oil pan. Cleaned it all up with some cleaner. But when I see a guy grab a wheel for the heads, I know we are on different levels. And I didn't see any assembly lube on that cam. I've never seen clear assembly lube. Where can I get some? KY LUBE?
The thing I hate about trucks... plenty of fucking engine room, but nah... let’s put it under all that shit still. I’ve got a Hemi in my Chrysler. Easiest shït to work on because the engine is actuslly up front.. and not halfway in the back like my truck. Ffs lol
I'll never take my Ram to this shop. What a bunch of amateurs, using an abrasive wheel on an "open" engine. That silica debris generated by that disc will ruin an engine. Plus, there's no cam lube on the installation. Shade tree wrenching at best. FAIL !
did you remove mds? I've done quite a few installs and have never removed the intake...just unbolt and hang from the hood, means i didn't have to remove fuel lines too... can't go wrong with a Greene cam..he spec'd a 230/238 cam for my Ram and it's killer..
What is the cam and the top end set you bought sir mine just dropped on my 2012 in a bind did you have to delete the eco mode shit if so what parts did you get please need help
BlackMamba Ram yea sir... Definitely sleeper Jay asked if I wanted a lope tune but I really like sleeper mode and track times are whats most important to me
BlackMamba Ram Really did not know that thanx no lope at all then... There is lil chop but thats what I wanted more sounding like the way it was b4 cam
Incredible Hemi yeah, your good the way you are. Will definitely be in your favor if you like to grudge race. I wanted lope so I chose a more aggressive cam, sacrificed a little torque to get it and just went higher on my stall to compensate the low end loss to get me moving. Lope tunes are just for sound, not at all worth it for a sacrifice in performance. I had a lope tune on the baby cam I had before and it killed my bottom end, went from 1.76 to 1.8s 60' with a dead bite and top end mph didn't pick up any. I only picked up midrange with faster 1/8 mile but same 1/4 in similar weather conditions. Kinda defeats the purpose of the cam install.
I was wondering, when you pulled your stock cam out did you notice any abnormal wear? I know it's fairly common issue from what I have been reading? How many miles do you have? Are you or did you upgrade the valve train, rocker, ect.?
Damn man, some voice instruction to go with it would have really helped me out. What in the shit is the point in having music over this when you should be explaining what’s going on the whole time?
Puts cam in dry? You did say "high lift" meaning high pressure on lobes. Oh crap then I watch more and "first start after dialing in" He idles it!!! Should be 1800 minimum to break in.
Yes. You have to lube the journals. Actually with roller lifters Cam lobe break in at 1500 to 2000 rpm is in Unnecessary. Flat tappets have to break in
98% of new gearheads OVER CAM their engines and then wonder why only 10 mpg and crummy idle! It's good you made wise decision to keep it "small"if it's your daily driver. What you need for the street is good idle, more torque and quicker acceleration.
How did you match up the timing Mark's without dropping the oil pump! I am doing a OEM replacement now due to lifter failure. Trying to get out of dropping the oil pan due to I can not right now. The only thing I have left is to get the timing correct.
So how did he get the cam in when it got stuck? I think that would probably be the most informative part of the video. What techniques did he use. Did he pull it out a bit and adjust it? Would more lube prevent this?
Did you lap your valves when you did this install? My truck is getting Jay's 1.5 V2 Cam early next week, truck has 38,000 miles on it...not sure if the valves needed lapping yet. Thanks.
Sounds like we should be good for weekend of Oct 6th - all the parts will def be in. The Cam is the only thing that needs to be plugged in - going to do an intake upgrade down the road. Would he let me film it like this?
Did incredible Hemi have Headers before he put the Cam in? Im asking because i have a Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 L Hemi Rumble Bee with Short Tube Headers and thinking about adding a Cam and kinda wanna get an idea what it might sound like.
I am from staten island I have a 2020 ram looking to put a cam in was wondering how much your friend would charge for a job like this thx I appreciate it
I have been doing a lot of research on my 5.7 hemi and really want to do a cam but nothing is giving me a straight answer about if I actually have to get my truck turned or not
hey where did you drop the truck ? i got bad lifters and probably my cam needs to be changed im looking for some good shop or mechanic but its hard in PA , i see you have NJ tag maybe is not far from me and guy looks like he know what hes doing , let me know whats the shop name and whats the name of this guy ? thanks
