@@eqsael i disagree, i think she's just got a specific style/sound, and she's only had five songs out, it's not like she's got a massive discography to look through. if she's working up to an ep or even an album drop it would follow that the songs she's releasing have a cohesive vibe.
@@eqsael Strongly disagree. I love the "feeling", but even if that's your thing to pretend her lyrics aren't beautiful and amazingly crafted and poetic. Also there's nothing wrong with an artist cultivating a specific vibe.
@@eqsael this is such a bad take - as a new artist it's important to establish a brand or a sound. if she only had 5 songs and they were all completely different sounds or genres you would be incredibly confused by what to expect. so it's really silly to make such a bold statement about such a limited discography. if she was 3 albums in and it was the same repetitive feel SURE but it's definitely not that and while they have a cohesive sounding production (DUH, again, you want your album or EP to be coherent) all her songs have offered new dimension. if you don't like this particular vibe fine you're entitled to that opinion but you made a big reach before stretching and you're doing the most.
@@eqsael she has 5 songs, what do you expect she's still cementing her genre, if she had several albums out this would make sense, but like she's only released 5 singles? Of course they're gonna sound similar she's just started its not the time to start experimenting, its time for her to cement her brand
@@bonniefnaf9849 I KNOW RIGHT, it feels sooo freaking cool to be apart of her ascend to fame, i can already tell she’s going to be one of the defining alt/indie pop singers of this decade!!! i feel like a teenager discovering lorde in 2013
That statement doesn’t make sense all black people are “traditional” black people. Not to mention her sound is reminiscent of 80s style pop a genre black ppl were fairly popular in??? You can instead say she’s a good representative of black alt fems or something
@urbanp0tions967 ok I'll bite. In America there's a stereotype of what constitutes blackness/black culture. Even though black people come in all different shades, colors, sizes, etc... there's still the stereotype that we make ghetto/urban based art or r&b. Hemlocke Springs does not do that, she makes what she wants to make. She has "frumpy" awkward aesthetic. If you think I'm making this up, read up on artists such as FKA Twigs, Kelela, Solange, Janelle Monae who have all spoken on how the industry, the culture, or expectations to fit into that "black" mold were being pushed onto them. Hell, FKA Twigs was "genreless" until people found out she was black, then suddenly it was labeled r&b. Tldr, there's a stereotype of what black people and artists should be and hemlocke springs represents all those who do not fit into those stereotypes or molds. Have a day.
I swear every song she makes is an earworm!! I couldnt get Sever The Blight out of my head for weeks. And now this!! Omg. Im cheering Hemlock on all the way, SO GOODDDD!! ❤❤
Lyrics: [Verse 1] The tides spiral, healing to secure I can't see you failing from the wealthy to the poor You've had a taste of being pure Heaven only knows where to find the hidden cure And time spurs, healing to the kind But drives some crazy leaving them out of the mind Yeah, I lay hopeless and stay blind [Pre-Chorus] 'Cause heaven only knows How I've longed for you Waiting for years so blue A girl should never share her truth [Chorus] So who the hеll am I? Blindly [struck?] in the one place I had triеd, oh so hard to hide I'll pick up my stride for a touch of your wild side [Verse 2] Recover, recover the remnants of my pride If I touch myself, still the need will not subside I wondered why (I wondered why) Now, I can't deny (No) [Pre-Chorus] Heaven only knows how I've longed for you (For you) Waiting for years so blue (So blue) Said goodbye to my virtue (Virtue) While the minute hand ticked off my youth (My youth) But a girl should never share her truth [Chorus] Who the hell am I? Blindly [struck?] in the one place I had tried oh so hard to hide I'll swallow my pride [Outro] I'll swallow my pride To be by your side, oh I'll, I'll swallow my
Something about Hemlocke is so refreshing, beautiful and nice. Her songs are purely her and all her and genuine!!!! She is going to be doing amazing things!!!
This song is reminiscent of "The Metro" by Berlin and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" as others have noted (specifically around 1:39 - 1:50). Lyrically, it reminds me of " I Would Die 4 U" by Prince. The 80s New Wave revival has a brilliant future through your music hemlocke springs (I always wanna say Hemlocke Grove whenever I type your name for some reason. Does anyone remember that show?😅)
@@maddyellexoxo rina sawayama, kero kero bonito, magdalena bay, coco and clair clair, and imogen heap are some of my favs! i can't choose from songs but these are a few artists i think are really good
I saw her live opening for MUNA this week and had never heard of her. No fancy lights or sets, just her twirling around with the microphone in a sparkly black dress, bright purple hair, and huge cat eye glasses, just feeling herself and her songs completely and it was divine. Instant fan.
OMG you are the 1980's retro QUEEN I've always wanted. The whole Claire Grogan, Lene Lovich feels are EVERYTHING!!! You are #BlackGirlMagic and I need a concert soon!
This song is *so* good. I've really liked all of your songs so far, but damn... I've listened to this 6 times now. Really, really great stuff from Hemlocke Springs. I seriously hope for your continued success. Love your style.
You are so amazing. I came from doja cat reposting you. You are so, so, so, so amazing. It is like you were in a time capsule coming straight from the 80ies. Wow! I can't wait for your first Album!
Hey bro you say it's the 90's but tell me why tho. it's that nostalgia feeling from the 90's we learned that we could tap into a different frequency level that the 80's couldn't possibly achieve this ability. Only 90's to 2000's
You just keep dropping banger after banger, it’s unreal how consistently your songs just absolutely slap. If these are all going to be an album eventually, it’s gonna be no skips for sure
The passion and the perfect musical execution and a good sens of how to utilize ur inspirations and pay homage to a genre without having it sound like a gimmick, u can tell she's an ARTISTE .
This such a unique and absolute banger. Hemlocke has the kind of music that keeps you close and listening through the end of every verse because theres always something unique and amazing to find at the end. Im always looking for talented artists like this that can break the box alongside a lyrical change in a way where everything just makes sense. fuck it up hemlocke springs!!!
Listening to this isn't enough. I need to dance aggressively in a old dance studio wearing leg warmers dripping in sweat with my hair in my eyes Your voice makes me feel emotions I can't describe.
Dear Hemlocke Springs you pretty much always make my day. I would like to suggest if you ever cover anything you cover Til Tuesday's Voices Carry. You would set that song on fire.
you are so so talented both lyrically and musically. the twists and turns this song takes are so fun and unique ecspecially in the second verse. as an 80s music enthusiast, i cant wait for your next banger.
