The 22 magnum pump can be a hit or miss proposition. Henry has had some issues with the magnum version. My first one was a nightmare. Several trips back to Henry. Finally Mr. Emperato replaced it with another. Second one has been trouble free so far. Gotta love when a company takes care of its customers. Nice video as usual 22 Plinkster.
My father owned a .22 in Long, a pump, made in 1890. It had a long barrel and was very accurate. He also had a bolt action .22 in S, L, LR. It was a carbine, made in 1900. Both were Winchesters.
I bought my son a Rossi pump 22 LR in the youth model size. He loved it and still does. It's a sweet little rifle and holds 12 rounds. Perfect little SHTF rifle to add to your collection.
My father, brother and I borrowed a 1906 from my dad's business partner before he died (about when we really got into shooting), and man, that breakdown lever action rifle is a nice rifle. Plus it was matching serial numbers! Shot anything and felt neat being the first pump .22lr we shot. The only complaint is that the tube stop/spring had a tendency to unscrew and walk off, causing rounds to go unfired and sitting in the tube. Good thing my father told us to shoot in a safe direction if we ever pulled the trigger. Reset the tube stop one day after walking out to the range, aimed into the grass near my feet, pulled, and a round went off that neither of us knew was in the chamber. Both of us were shocked.
Perfect this time on the music Plinkster!... Silence (no music intro), straight to shooting and talking about the guns and wrapped up with a tid bit of Tennessee sounding music.👏👏...👍
I purchased a Henry 22lr pump about 3 years ago, what a great rifle, fast handling, stay on target, holds 15 lr, shoots shorts.A fantastic rifle from a real good company.
@@sticksnstonespatriot1728 never had a failure, smooth action, very accurate. Purchased from a great company. This rifle is my go to pinker. Fast action, fact handling.
I got me a brand new Henry .22 mag this evening!! Can’t wait till morning to shoot it! I’m very excited!!!! I also want to get a .22 lr so I have both 20 years from now a matched set from the same year will be worth some money just wait and see!! The pump action rifles always get worth more with age always and a matched set with the boxes one of my grandkids will get a pretty penny if they want to sell them but I hope they love Pappy enough to just keep them in the family!!
We had an old Remington when I was a boy, 1960's. Some dork broke in and stole it, so bought my first 22 rifle in 1970, a Ruger 10/22. Bet I have well over 20,000 rds thru it. Stile shoots great.
Thanks for the quick overview on the Henry's. I love my 1890 Winchester. It is a joy to shoot, but it is getting old. A new Henry would be a perfect gun to run lots of ammo through and save the 1890 for special occasions.
I have a Rem 22 pump. I believe they are or were called carnival rifles. I believe it is a mod 12. 22 lg. It is very accurate amd shoots any 22 except mag. I think ot is designated 1906 or 09. I havent looked at it before this vid. But i love that rifle. My brother has the octagon barrel. Same modle or make. Great little 22. Shot clay pogroms at 100 yrds, no problems.
LOVE THEM HENRYS ,Glad to here you are doing a show with them : Anthony Imperato is a very nice guy I chatted with him a few times he sent me some wonderful gifts, he is a stand up guy thanks Dave for all you do .
I have an old Remington model 12 pump action .22lr.. its really old the numbers say about 1938-9.. octagon barrel.. still shoots like a dream and is almost my favorite .22lr rifle to shoot.. so much fun..
I own three Henry rifles, all are Fantastic !!! The LR pump is my Favorite. The Lever octagon is a close second. I also have the round barrel lever action I bought at walley -world years ago for $ 140.00 They never jam, they are very accurate and the prices are reasonable. My son's have the Pump LR's I bought them for their Birthdays and my oldest just bought the 45-70. It's a smooth action and shoots very accurately. He had a tang sight installed and it nails a 12" steel gong about every time at 200 yds. He's taking it on an Elk hunt in the fall. You can't go wrong with a Henry !!!
I have the Magnum version backordered right now and am excited for when it's delivered. I appreciate Henry making good quality guns in the US and uses good ol walnut for their stocks instead of ugly polymer plastic.
Just got the Henry 22-lr last Friday. Gonna get the 22mag in the Henry pump as well too. Had one just like this rifle back in the 80's it was a I think an Erma make or Iver Johnson- Man was it a shooter- Like a dummy I traded it off yrs ago. I once shot a moving snake in the eye with it- It was lights out for that critter for sure...
YES! .22 rimfire pump (Trombone?) guns are lots-o-fun. I have a Rossi 62-SAC .22 carbine purchased in 1982 for $127. It is 32.5" long with 16.5" barrel, shoots S,L,LR interchangeably, is top eject with exposed (half cock safety) hammer and holds 11 LR and 15 Shorts, not sure about long ammo capacity. This gun takes down to under 20" and weighs about 4.5 lbs. There is no disconnector so holding the trigger down it will fire as fast as you pump. To date have over 25,000 rounds thru it, not really a lot for 36 years of shooting. Have a Taurus 72 .22 magnum exposed hammer pump carbine (purchased in 2001) with 16.5" barrel and holds 10 rounds. Also a takedown. Never shot a Henry pump, would like to try it. Nice video, well done.
I had wanted a "gallery gun" for a long time. I had watched many videos , including yours, and thought why not. I went with the Henry for several reasons and I'm happy I did. I broke it in with a few hundred rounds (and TW25B) and the action smoothed right out. The rifle is more accurate then I was expecting. I really didn't like the buckhorn sight or the short distance to the front sight .. just my preference. I removed the buckhorn sight and added a Skinner blank with peep holder. I added the Skinner H001 rear peep sight (same as small game rifle). Took about 1 hr to drill, tap and install. I was about 2" high at 25 yards so I installed a taller fiber optic on the front. Shoots extremely accurate and is just a lot of fun. By the way the people at Henry CS are very helpful and knowledgeable.
I don't have any pump action .22's. I do have a made in 1916 Remington Model 14 chambered in .35 Remington that I will NEVER part with. slickest pump action anything I have ever used and I have had and still own tons of pump shotguns. love it.
I had a Winchester Model 1906, and a friend of mine had several .22 pumps including a trio of Winchester Model 61's, one pre-war, one post-war .22 LR and one .22 Magnum. I have in the safe a Remington Model 12A. They're all great to shoot.
I purchased a new in the box H003TM Friday 12-4-2020 , I took it out today to shoot it , I loaded the tube , pumped the action and it wouldn't chamber the round , also hard to pump . I paid full retail + tax , $696.50 , + gas to the store and back , what a disappointment , I was going to buy the H003T next , but will not now , I don't recommend anyone buying this high dollar rifle , sending it back for fixing , then getting it back and paying transfer fee and insurance would be another $100.00 putting it up to $800.00 , not worth the trouble . Henry got me once , I can assure you Henry won't get me twice . The rifles you see in this video as I did before I made my purchase were checked to make sure there were no function problems , the one I purchased new apparently wasn't checked , I've been shooting pump .22s for 40 years , this one is substandard , my cheap Rossi 62CS is a much better rifle as far as function goes , very disappointed . Merry Christmas folks .
A Marlin Model 60, Ruger 10/22, Thompson TC/22 and a CZ-452/455 are ALL better than Henry rifles and cost much less money as well. Also Henry rifles in particular the .22s have known accuracy issues. They don't shoot that great and nothing he is doing in this video is really showing or testing the accuracy. Ringing plates of steel doesn't measure accuracy other than minute of target or bad guy. Shoot paper at distance and measure the groups. Most Henry .22s don't print worth a hoot and don't shoot to POA/POI.
Bad luck. My henry h001 lever is unbelievably accurate out to 100 yards and cycles smooth as butter. Best most reliable 22 I ever owned. Cant speak foe the pump
Like your channel for this reason: Practice with my firearms is mainly an exercise with tools that I use for a task...my carry pistol is a tool for self defense...my rifle is to dispatch game, as well as the shotgun, but .22's are a different story. In over forty years I just never tire of plinking with a .22. Just plain, low recoil, low noise fun. Those little pumps look like fun, too. Thanks for this video.
Enjoyed the video... My most treasured firearm, model 90 in 22WRF... My dads rifle that my mother bought him in the 50's... At a pawn shop, on layaway... It's a round barrel version...
The first rifle I shot was a Winchester 62A. I was 5 years old and my grandfather won it at a turkey shoot. If I had to lose all my guns except one, this is the the I would keep.
Sweet! I think there is a lot of nostalgia with these because the pumps were often used at shooting galleries in carnivals. Who doesn't love those memories?
+22plinkster You are not doing proper "reviews", plinkster. You keep bad aspects of a gun secret or directly excuse them after pointing them out. Also, you should ALWAYS say if a gun was sponsored. I expect you to be that honest and transparent to your loyal viewers! It is no secret that Henry is a sponsor of your channel and is also very active on full30 with advertisement. Nobody has something against sponsoring, as long as the gun youtubers make it transparent and don't hold bad aspects of a gun back for keeping sponsorings up...
I have had one of these for nearly 3 years and it just occurred to me to get some CCI Quiet. Estimated dB is 105 on that load and that's well below the threshold for needing hearing protection.
A lot of the old gallery rifles at the shooting galleries when I was a kid were pump actions, I always hit the shooting galleries when I went to the amusement park, always the first stop.....Dad, give me a quarter for the shooting gallery....PLEASE! Yes, they were a quarter, like I said, that was a long time ago!
Enjoy your Henry videos. You do a great job! The only suggestion I have , as a viewer is , that the targetts across the creek are hard to see, mabe they need to be painted green or red so as to make them more visable to the viewer .
+22plinkster Do you find yourselves still talking about guns mostly or has talking about videos and sponsors and social media, more like "shop talk" taken over?
Have it. It is a great little 22. You made a video that you testes the S&W .22lr for 8 mo. and what a great gun it is. I did pick up one. It does shoot great, but in those 8 mo. didn't you see that the Mags drop out of the gun after only a frew shots ? Not once, but with all the Mags. Nothing ever said about that. Others I shoot with, have the same thing with that S&W .22lr Victory.
Love the adt sign ,don't think you need it ,if people has seen and know how you shoot ,I think the thieves are smarter than that thanks for posting keep shooting brother
Greetings from Ireland. Would it be possible to do a short video showing the differences between short, long, long rifle & magnum. It would make a good comparison doing a few test's & explaining the practical uses for each.
I own a Henry .22 LR pump. It would be hard for 22Plinkster to give you any negatives about the gun..They are great guns..that being said by a channel that is not sponsored by Henry or anyone else.
I have the 22 lr and it is such a fun gun to shoot at a range or for hunting, i particularly like shooting rabbits and squirrels with it. its an awesome gun nice vid keep them up
It looks like a wonderful little firearm, I've been seriously considering one for a year. I'm going to hold off until ammunition becomes more available, I can't find any CCI or Remington Target anywhere. It almost feels like the bad "old days", again.
Yah, Obe, I should have thought of that. I have a Mosin-Nagant, and that thing is fun to shoot, but it isn't made for a lefty. I guess Ivan was always right-handed.
The advantage of being able to shoot shorts et al is bigger than you might think... esp when availability is an issue. I often see shorts available when LR is not. I have an old Remington tube fed bolt action that digests everything... with shorts it never seems to run out of ammo! Backyard plinking? CB longs! quiet as an air gun. My 10-22 will not digest any of these other options. (nor will any .22 semi auto, to be fair) That 22magnum really whacks 'em!
Always loved the smooth action of those carnival rifles. Regardless their bent sights, I always won the cupi doll for my girl. People should consider this kind of action for a SHTF gun to go to. I believe it can be found in .357, .44 mag, .45LC and more calibers still. Oh, I see Hicock45 has rubbed off on you with that gong. Nice nod to the great man.
I used to love the 22 mag years ago. But they don’t shoot as hard as they did 20 years or so ago. Me and my friends used to shoot 22 mags a lot years ago and they would shoot thur a poplar tree 10 inches in diameter pretty easy. Ive tried a couple of different 22 mags in the past 10 years or so and they won’t even shoot thru a 3 inch diameter poplar. They did something different with the powder for some reason. I would just assume to have the 22 lr. They shoot just about as hard as the 22 mag. With the stingers or yellow jackets. Id like to see you do a video using gel blocks to compare the 22 lr and the 22 mag.
Hope they will offer them with a peep site someday light they do the small game lever action models. These guns are pretty popular with older guys, but they need a peep site to help older eyes.
Dang. I'm in the market for a .22mag and I think this is what I'm going to end up getting. Any chance you could do an accuracy test on these? I've got a Remington 572 .22lr pump action that I just love. Would be nice to get this Henry in .22mag to go with it.
I am continually amazed no one produces a 22 Magnum semiautomatic rifle! I think I heard Browning makes one at one point but it's extremely expensive? Even Savage is making a semi auto 17hmr now! I wonder why Ruger quit making a 10/22 magnum?
Very nice pump action rifles my Dad had a old Winchester pump 22lr I don't know what happened to it after he passed away but it shot great he would use it to hunt rabbits. Thanks for the video brings back a lot of great memories.
Im not sure which one to pick between the 22lr and 22wmr pump. I can only afford one, I already have 3 lever henry.. 1 is a 22mag lever, the other two are two 22lr lever henry.. but i d like to get 1 pump to add to my henry collection, 22 mag are almost 50 cent to shoot.. which can be expensive for plinking. But at like you said, flatter and better punch.. more useful i guess.. but if the goal to pump is to plink like in those old school gallery.. and shoot as many as possible then a 22 lr would make more sense for a pump… which one did you like most the henry pump 22mag or 22lr? If you only have to have 1
