GWAR has a long mythos that has been developing since the 80’s. Each album has a storyline, and the stage show tells the story. They have comic books, films, and a board game. They make their own costumes, and design everything you see. They have had many members come and go, and also step into established characters, but two characters have been retired. The original singer has passed, so his character is no longer in the story. The new singer was an original member (he played bass and sang some in the first few albums). He has a new character while someone else plays the character he originated. They generally tackle themes that reflect the negative sides of human society. Since they are aliens who had been banished here, our goings on perplexes them into fits of hatred. For someone like me, who grew up loving horror movies, D&D, metal, comic books, and theater, this was the ultimate amalgamation. Now, having said all that, they are really nice and smart individuals. The current singer has his doctorate, and was a professor at the University of Virginia. I am friends with Hunter Jackson, who is the artist who originated the concept behind GWAR, and he is such a great guy. Like me, a total nerd, and we play board games all the time. GWAR is art. Albeit, twisted, but art nonetheless.
Randy Blythe is good friends with GWAR. Lamb of God and GWAR have toured together. When I saw them in 2000, LoG opened for GWAR. Both bands are from Richmond, VA. There's an amazing GWAR documentary on Shudder, This is GWAR. I highly recommend it if you wanna know more about the band.
For how shocking it was, I have to say, once you take at look at Gwar, it's hard to not see their inspirations in every day life. Spock was a Gwar fan funnily enough. In Rick and Morty, you can see a picture of the band while they're hopping multiverses. Beavis and Butthead's whole game was about them getting to a Gwar concert. Lol, even Fox news hosted the lead singer for like 13 episodes on their Red Eye show. The lent a song to the show "Codename Kid's Nextdoor" I believe as well. They raised money for Randy when he was in prison in Europe for a few months. They have a lot of weird ties to pop culture if you look deep enough.

They are a comedy(never to be taken seriously)As a musical band.Basically they are not talented at all.Especially when you have to use theatrics to support their(if you want to call it that)Music.They are the Barry Manilow of their genre!!!!
Plainly, you have not taken the time to listen to a whole album by GWAR. If you had really given them a listen, you would not be saying they have no talent at all.
Cory Smoot before he passed away was voted one of the best up and coming metal guitarists. This album version of this song the guitarist was Zack Blair of Rise Against
They are actually super talented, the lead guy, Dave Brockie, just came up with the look cause he was on the punk scene and really into theatric shows.
