I understand boosting your paddock with a variety of seeds, but unless you are aerating, seeding and then fertilizing you are pretty much wasting your money. As expensive as grass seed is, I can’t imagine not doing it right the first time. May I ask why on earth Sophie is using a poultice on Lady’s legs when she has literally only ridden her for 20 minutes of mostly walking and VERY brief canters? Unless she is Sore.. you are also supposed to rub the mud on, wrap it with cotton and then standing wraps, not just rub it on and leave it for the horse to potentially lick off! I’m a firm believer in if something isn’t broken don’t try to fix it! Too many supplements, too many sprays, medications, poultices, liniments etc do nothing but waste money. Trust that I speak from experience, when I was young and first had my horse, I wanted to try every new product and gadget.. there were only ever a handful that were worth the effort

You are absolutely right. I did the same when I start having money in my pocket when all this new products came out. I ruin a my show horse with all these commercial made products. I should have stayed with the old remedies that my grandfather and mother taught me. Old fashion clay was good enought for me.

Lots of circles different sizes 10,15,20meters and figures of eight, carriage horses use their bodies differently and are usually more stiff bending and lots of walk and trot transitions would be beneficial also lateral work in hand all helps. Poles on the ground or raised poles in hand or under saddle at walk. Hope this helps :)

Hey guys, a thing I used to help my horse relax under saddle (I got her from a lady with kids that would rip on her mouth and she would just put her head up to stop them from doing it) is ride her in a medium sized areas that she can’t go to far and just walk trot and canter with no reins. It helped a lot because she knew if I wasn’t touching the reins I wouldn’t pull on her mouth, not sure if it will help Sophie with her situation but I feel like it’s worth a shot

I use clay poultice it does the same. Also I can put it directly on the legs instead of wrapping. Also a Tuttle bath. Learnt this when I raced Standardbreds and Thoughbreds along with Miniature Standardbreds. We used it on our riding horses if they were working hard or got overheated. Sam you're going to waste your grass seed. Birds are going to eat it. That is why I tried to guild you on a way to seed your field without exposing the seed also fertilizing it at the same time. Laura said one time she was writing done some of my comments so check with her notes. The mix you go seems ok but I would have added a few other beneficial grass. Why ask for help when you have your own ideas. Also why doesn't Sophie tells what she plans to do with Ladybug. It is her horse it seems that it is you that is planning it for her. Let Sophie tell use in her own words. And you just listen and video. Sophie as a good attitude about Gabby doing her own horse. And Why would you poultice Storm? Was he worked hard or lame? To much of this unnecessary medicating can also cause problems. You can overdue it. I seen it happen. Stop and save it for you really need it. Have a great day. God Bless may the Good Lord guide you.

Sophie may want to try a German Olympic Martingale to help train Lady to hold her head in the correct position. This martingale is usually effective in working with horses that hold their head too high & the beauty is that once the horse has her head in the right position the martingale releases.

Gadgets like German martingales wouldn’t be a good idea in this case. The importance isn’t so much the head position, but how she uses her body. By doing exercises that promote relaxation and stretching in the body under saddle and in hand, the head will come into place naturally. It can be trickier with horses that have a harness horse type build, but definitely not impossible. While it does have a self-releasing action when utilized correctly, should it be adjusted improperly, and because Lady’s head carriage is due in part to her neck connecting to the rest of her body differently to begin with, the martingale could just as easily contract the head and neck and put Lady into a false frame.
