Won’t that be great when you get your own delivered from the factory with all the imperfections and broken/low grade interior quality that comes on the truck they’ve been building for 10 years , you have to be thrilled!!
Personally I'm sick and tired of hearing about the plastic interior, # 1 I'm in construction #2 I fish a lot and in both cases I'm always SLIMEING my truck, and the inside of my truck wipes down In seconds and has held up great. I like utility in my truck. Also Maybe this fancy interior in the Ram is why it's 85k to 90k not 77k. Why don't you guys push for Lamborghini everything so only 3 people on the planet can afford one.
Same opinion here I prefer the hard plastic as it cleans easy. It’s odd to me that people assume soft touch is higher quality. It’s all the same crap. The soft touch is just overpriced. With what comes standard now a days the base model trucks are plenty nice for me. Rubber floor and vinyl seats preferred.
50$ says it starts becoming an option on the big 3 within 2 more years. And it will become adjustable so we can hear jet engine taking off or locomotive engine chugging along. It’s should be a simple electronic setting.
i agree... but pick up trucks are number one sellers... why your city and almost every other house hold outs a pick up... so they jack up the price like crazy...
@@JOHNJ0HN9111 A end of model year purchase of a incentivized $35k mid equipped model provides more reliability and 95% of the capability. A second hand truck is simply superior for off- road.
There's no denying that the Raptor is a beast in both off-road prowess and sheer speed. However, the EcoBoost engine "sounds" anemic when compared to a N/A V-8. Also, for almost 80K, there should not be any scratchy, crappy plastic in the interior.
Same for me. I think they're cool trucks, they just don't suit my style of off-roading at all. I'm not running the Baja 1000, I'm usually on a very tight trail with trees or rocks trying to take out sheet metal.
My wife who knows nothing about cars or trucks once asked me what was wrong with that truck? “It sounds like a ricer”. I told her that it was a V6 turbo and she asked “Why”? Lmao
I have a 20 Raptor and get 18.4 mpg. I keep my foot out of it most of the time but do give it beans now and then. My second Raptor and love it better than the previous version.
The luxury options available don’t live up to the added costs. As an owner of a special ordered base 2018 Raptor with a few options and total paid of $50k new that has used it on some serious off-roading it definitely has surpassed its price tag. Not perfect but overall much more capable for the intended purpose.
I think between the purchase of the soft topper on the Raptor and Roman still wearing his Mom's sunglasses, we can disregard any opinion he ever has on design or how anything looks in general. Ha!
The only thing i think your off base on is that Trucks arent made to be Showing off money. But if you look at the average price of a pickup is much higher than a car and Suv. If you can afford a new pickup you prolly can afford the a really nice luxury car. If i see someone in a New Pickup thats not a base WT model i know they paid over 30k for it and prolly more like 40 to 50 for it. TRucks have gotten so overpriced its insane.
I love people bitching about fuel economy in a PERFORMANCE vehicle. Let me put this in perspective for you. In 1971, I bought a Ford Bronco. It had a 205 hp, 302 V8, and the best mileage it ever got was 15.5 mpg at 55 miles per hour. Now, let's all get nostalgic about "the good old days"...
Mpg is more dependent on vehicle weight than the engine's power all else equal. Obviously with ~50 years difference things are gonna be more efficient but curb weight still remains the biggest factor in a vehicle's fuel economy. Which is why a 2002 Corvette Z06 gets the same 28mpg EPA rated hwy fuel economy as a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 4-cyl with well over twice the horsepower.
@@jldude84 oh really? Just weight? You don’t think the Bronco in 1971 with a 3 speed transmission, vs the new 10 speed makes any difference? I’d bet the Raptor weighs more than that Bronco from 1971.
I hear about bad gas mileage in every video on the Raptor. My first tank was 19.5 mpg and best was 22.5. I average 20 mpg and I have 9,500 miles on it now. Lift your right foot once in a while and it will get much better.
That's definitely the secret to a turbo. Treat it like a little engine and you'll get the economy. Treat it like a big engine and you'll get the power. But economy is a compromise in both directions, and so is durability. But they test really good on the EPA mileage test loop!
I agree. I do the same with my 2019 Raptor. I get about 18.3 on mine and a truck with two turbos that's pretty good. And I do the same lift your foot off the gas pedal and you'll see a better gas mileage result.
It will be interesting to see how the TRX hate and love review goes. So some of the hate things are even worse with the TRX. It will be bigger, get less mileage, be more expensive and be even more ostentatious as Roman called it.
@@MAA_in_Texas ok Ford were a bit anal about the Bronco thing. Both sides were in the wrong. If he has been salty as you say about Ford products since, then they should have expected as much and not acted so childishly and thought for a moment.
I love this video open the mountains in the snow it’s the perfect environment for the raptor this truck looks amazing I do like the canvas on the back it’s actually made me think about getting one for my truck I do believe this truck needs 37 inch tires and a leveling kit of 2 inches also I can’t wait for you guys to put an extreme tune on this truck and get it over 650 hp I really believe that should be the next move for this truck
I have never enjoyed a truck as much as my ‘17 Raptor. This is the longest I have kept any truck. That being said, I ordered my TRX two months ago. Exhaust note was one of the deciding factors, but overall the truck performs flawlessly. The Baja suspension floats down any road, and exceeds many luxury vehicles for ride. I have put three different exhausts on it trying to find the right note. It’s impossible. The augmented note can be disabled in ForScan, and additional features unlocked.
@@hahaadventures4838 Ford's best selling engines are the "nonsense" V6s. Probably because anybody who uses a truck as a truck appreciates the low end torque they provide. It's mostly posers who complain about the sound they make. Raptor and TRX are both toys, nearly useless as trucks.
@@plmn93 the raptor is absolutely everything a truck should be minus the towing. Let’s be honest though, most people that buy raptors don’t tow more than 5k pounds so why does that matter?
Ya I don't have a problem with the V6 sound. Kind of reminds me of a rally car. He complains about the sound and not that piece of shit cover? Somethings not right.
Severe snow rated all terrain all weather tires are still not as good as dedicated winter tires. I think they are good enough and not worth the effort to change tires unless in climate like Alaska. The interior needs to be updated badly. I assume it will be updated like the new F150.
@Brian. “The interior needs TO BE updated badly”. Since when did sounding ignorant by using completely wrong grammar become cool? Note to you: It hasn’t.
@@mikek5298 Chill out, you sound like a 3rd grade english teacher on a power trip. “Needs to be” is a common and perfectly acceptable phrase, no need to get nasty over it.
@@tyleranderson5823 Just Ignore the Troll and don't feel bad. He does this to every reply that doesn't praise the Raptor. Just another delusional fanboy.
I like the design of the interior, but I do wish it was less “plasticky”. But at the same time I love it that way, because I can abuse it sometimes when I actually need to do some work with it.
Roman... You can defend that hideous rag thing on the back all you want, it's overpriced, it's a flopping mess, it ruins the entire look of the truck, and it's just plain ugly!! Now.... Who said Tommy's a bad driver? He's the best of the bunch off road.
V6 was almost a deal breaker for me, coming from gmc with 5.3 v8. Was going to upgrade to the 6.2 Denali truck, test drove the Raptor and i was hooked. I just love this truck. I get my big 6.2 v8 fix with my older yukon Denali. You are right wish it was a v8
The misses are unforgivable for 70k. I'd buy the AT4 inline diesel over this any day of the week, regardless of however more off-road capable the raptor is. Center console shift is a total deal breaker. And 15 mpg??? You'd hope the terrible exhaust note would be the trade-off for great fuel efficiency. Instead you lose on both ends. Sounds like a hopped up Camry with the mpg of a 20 year old 3/4 ton.
You forgot the best part! The TORSEN® front differential. The Raptor 802A is the only 1/2 ton truck with a locking front diff currently. Even the new TRX won't have that. You need to do a video on IT.
So much hate in the comments on the raptor. Personally, I’m part of the generation that is moving away from the v8. I don’t care for it. This v6 is more power than you need and makes it worth the purchase. I know you v8 oldies like the ideal v8s hold and more power to you. I just like the fun I can have in one and the capabilities that it has. It drove the TRX to become the beast it wanted to be so hand the raptor some love damn
It's amazing how Tommy and Roman nitpick on the "hate" part about this truck but I bet if it had a Land Rover sticker on the front of it they would have nothing but good things to say about it even if it broke down!
Here's the thing with the engine: if they can get that out of a 3.5, what could they have done with 6 or 7 naturally aspirated liters? I hate this "turbocharge all the things!" attitude we see now amongst most auto manufacturers and I love that Dodge isn't going along with it.
@@2011blueman Yeah I know what it is, I just wish the manufacturers would do what Dodge has done and say, "Nah, not worth the savings" and simply refuse to do it. I mean, they're not really *required* to do it, they just pay more tax if they don't (which gets passed on to the customer, which I would prefer over having a small-displacement, turbo-charged engine).
The 2022 will have a V8 I was thinking about the Tremor but it won't fit in my garage height wise or lengthwise so that is a deal breaker. My first choice is the Raptor and it will fit in my garage so the decision became easier.
I have the Race Red one, and it was sitting at a dealer for quite some time. It took me a bit of time to warm up to it, but cannot picture driving any other color. I never see other Race Red Raptors, and the grey, gunmetal, black and white ones are just boring.
If there was any way that the exhaust could be made to sound like a Detroit Diesel 6V71, that would be amaaazzing. Hey, don't feel ostentatious Roman because everyone who sees a Raptor secretly wishes they were driving it.
Good video - agree that the exhaust sound is terrible, especially inside the cabin. And the cheaply designed interior doesn’t help either. I get that a lot of guys who have been buying these things don’t care about interior quality or aesthetics, but for the money being spent, Ford needs to put some effort into competing with FCA interior-wise, imho.
I love how father and son get to work together! My son and I have a channel called 3x7 outdoor. It’s a hobby grade r/c channel. Happy new year Roman and Tommy!
sometimes manufacturers try too hard to part customers from their wages. The synthetic interior sound seems like a unwelcome toy, like speech and motion recognition and Tesla video game tech. And the purchase price... it renders the whole effort pointless.
For one, you don’t buy a Ford F150 Raptor for the fuel economy. He says he doesn’t like the fuel economy at a little over 15 mpg, wait until you start driving the ram TRX and you’re looking at 7 to 8 MPG, that 15 MPG is going to look a lot better.
If the sound is bad ( which it is for 6 cylinders ), why not just get rid of the fake computer exhaust sound, the six cylinder model engine & replace it with what this truck needs a V8 one. Why do people complain about MPG...its a V8 with lots of torque and horsepower. You want a good mileage get a f****** Prius.
I wonder if the 2022 Raptor will have the grill and headlight style of a 2018 F150 since the 2020 has the style of 2017. That is the number 1 thing I'd hate about the Raptor.
They won't for the regular version. Ford is all in on the ecoboost crap. They might put the v8 for a special edition but be prepared for 100k price tag.
Truck interiors should be durable and functional first, and this one is. I don't caress my dashboard, but I do use the HVAC with gloves on. Keep car interiors in cars.
@@plmn93 no it isn't they got this truck with broken switches 😂 makes ur point invalid couldn't even last a 1000 mile roadtrip what's the point of cheap plastics 🤷 Ford cheaps out in their interiors and Ford ppl willingly pay for it and Ford makes a tonne of money off it the interior is not far off from a 2008 Ford f150
Yeah this is why you have to discount The integrity of anyone who drives a Ford because they’re willing to put up with this and a vehicle it’s 10 years old and yet they carry on imperfections and failures to every model, then you will have a Ford fans tell you how well-built they are 😂 you will never ever and you couldn’t ever find those kind of imperfections in any Dodge model of any year ever ... and if they were a problem they were not carried to the next model,. because everyone would talk about it, now Ford fans they love to hide the imperfections and say“Every maker has no problems“ no just you fraud just you fraud....
@Jeremy R you should get an award for the best reason to pay $70,000 and love cheap plastic award if you don’t have a job already I would apply at Ford they love your kind...😂
Good lord I’ve said it in the other video but that soft topper looks atrocious on the raptor. I’ve seen it on a cement tacoma trd pro and it was the best looking tacoma I’ve ever seen. This looks horrible tho
That soft topper is the only thing more atrocious than the fake exhaust note that doesn't belong on a $77k vehicle. Just no. When you buy a hot rod truck it should be forbidden to put on anything cheap looking that destroys the looks. If it's a paid sponsor don't they have anything suitable for a $77k truck?
4wd Auto uses an electromagnetic clutch in the transfer case to engage the front wheels. The truck will send power to the rear wheels as long as no slippage is identified. Once the vehicle senses slippage it will engage the transfer case clutch, which will then split power to the front and rear wheels.
The 4 auto is essentially AWD where it is primarily rear wheel drive until slip is detected and then a multi- plate clutch between the drivetrain and rear driveshaft kicks in and sends power to the front wheels . At highways speeds on dry pavement the clutch obviously wouldnt slip and youd remain 2wd rear
My wife and I ordered our 2021 JLU Sport S with the Selec-Trac 4WD system with the Anti-Spin Differential (I'm old school I call it limit slip) But it's the same concept with the 4WD as the Raptor AWD setting.
@T-boe the first I agree there are boneheads that own raptors but they are bad ass vehicles. I don’t think they are garbage as they set the tone for the TRX to be what it is. They do retain value than tundras sooo. I also deleted my other comments on here because I was being a dick but you weren’t being one to me so I deleted them and I’m sorry. We can have opposing views and still appreciate cars.
@@Trashencash people will beg to differ that Toyota has nothing on the Raptor as far as reliability. They can keep telling themselves that haha. And your Right. Big truck like that needs to stick with a V8 Sound
This is what it is about. Dead on owner impressions. And I respect when you give this type of informative yes and no to what it is like to own it. Driving impressions are great. Does it do what it is supposed to is great. But this, this is where the daily driver really finds out whether it is worth going to the dealership to try out for a purchase of long term ownership. You nailed it. Thanks Roman and Tommy.
The 4Auto in the Ford and GMC act as an AWD system. So it stays in 2wd until it slips and engages the front wheels that are needed. My 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 has it and that’s what it tells you is AWD not 4Auto. And the sound isn’t technically faked, it takes the engine noise and amplifies it so you can hear it that’s why it doesn’t change it’s the same noise.
@@thejuiceisloose8703 apparently in this video a cheap interior means the dash is cheap plastic, you can tell by tapping on the dash. Don’t recall them doing this in other trucks. Hence, dash tap test for cheapness of vehicle.
If you want sound buy an IS500, RC-F, or even a Mustang. Unfortunately, those are the only semi affordable V8’s left on the market… Sorry Dodge, but most of your cars are in repo lots. V6 in any truck is only going to be a couple decibels above a Rivian, & that sucks.
A Big truck needs a Big motor. At least give it a V8 option. That’s eco boost I’m sure is plenty powerful but it’s a pansy. Ram has the right idea putting a big V8 in their super truck. It’s still too expensive
Pansy? Keep believing that! I’ve made believers out of every knucklehead that thinks they can take me off the line, off road, or rolling. This truck is by far the best all around performance truck ever to roll off the assembly line. I’ve had mine for three years, drove it hard & no issues! My buddy bought a Ram Rebel with the Hemi and besides not keeping up, he was anyways taking it in for problems and wound up getting rid of it.
If you wanted it to sound like a v8 you should have bought the first gen raptor. Obviously, this thing will never sound as good. But I get that complaint. What I don't get is you complaining about the plastic dash.... lol do you want them to make it out of steel? lmao
My Raptor was marked up to $81k (still on the sticker) but I eventually walked out of the dealership for under $64k including tax and title. So make sure you negotiate. The Raptor has been the best truck I have ever owned or at least the one that I have loved the most.
When you bought yours they were building hundreds a day. When we bought our Ford was building 0 Raptor per day. What do you think that does for supply and demand and sticker prices? 😉
Good negotiating, same here I traveled to a town over and bought mine for $65k sticker was $73k. Locally for that price they were selling me used ones with 20k to 30k miles, no thanks.
They don t like the exhaust note. Sounds like every other American V6 engine. It shouldn t have any exhaust note. You can t make a V6 sound good. Sounds just like a Buick Grand National
I wish reviewers would stop complaining about a plastic dash. In the last 10 years of driving I’ve probably touched my dash 5 times. Great now I have a leather dash on my $60k XLT F-150 and they charge 5000 more.
