I was a die hard GM guy until I got my 2019 Raptor. I’d love to tell you that it was the biggest pile of crap on 4 tires, but I just can’t (and still be honest). Ran perfectly for 100k miles, not a single warranty claim or repair beyond normal maintenance. At 100k, I started having cam phaser noise and the heated seat on the driver’s side went out. I ordered my 2024 back at the end of Oct ‘23 and it arrived at the end of March 24’. I have 4k miles on the new one and still no warranty issues. I’m amazed at the improvements on the 24 on what was already a great truck. I upgraded and got the Raptor 37 package and have been super happy with the truck.
Heck yeah nice! U still have it? How many miles now? My 2015 3.5 ecoboost just rolled 260k on original engine and trans!! Hoping to get 200k more out of it
My uncle he’s a master mechanic for Ford. He loves his Raptor!!! Makes it easier for him to work on it since he has a lot of knowledge if anything goes wrong.
I service a couple 1st gens at my shop and they are absolutely solid trucks. Just well made all together. Just replaced the factory Fox shocks on one with new Fox shocks right from Ford.
Man I love that truck and holy shit is that one clean...I love how you and your dad really take care of your shit super awesome .. love to buy second hand vehicles off people who really care for them.
thanks Jake for recap and sunroof intel🙏 I have a 20 and on my 3rd sunroof, it continues to rattle and sounds cheap tbh. contemplating getting a 22 eco with no sunroof..
I BEAT mine off road almost everyday, whether it's a 30s burst through a whooped out road or an hour long play session. 50,000 miles later on my 2019 Gen 2 and everything has been fine except for a bent tie-rod one time I was going too hard. Also, I've scratched the crap out of my paint with pin-striping from bushes, but I've never ceramic coated or waxed the paint. Glad to hear yours has treated you well. Built tough as hell.
I’ve got the’17 Gen 2 loaded out 802b etc. Same as this one. Blk blk Been a great vehicle. Before this I’d always driven Benz, Porsche, Audi, etc but after the last hurricane in Houston flooded out my sedan I went to the Raptor and haven’t looked back. My next one will be a Raptor as well, despite the price. Have full warranty through 120k miles. I’m at 85k, and will keep it one more year. Highly recommend.
The wider part goes at the front because it stops rocks and debris from kicking up into the side of the truck. Those steps are not going to bump the truck over like a rock slider would.
I absolutely love my gen 2. I do wish as well it had a supercharged v8 but the ecoboost gets the job done and then some... although my cam phasers are toast lol. Awesome review!
I was a die hard gm guy on my 2nd gen2 Raptor now tho (1st got totaled) a 2020 after a 2018 & I have 67k miles - original brakes/shocks - used amsoil 5w30 & filter every 5k, truck has given me ZERO issues & the 2018 had 45k on it when totaled no issues as well (cam phasers started w/ that one but not a big deal) the gen2 DOES look better from the outside but the inside is better. The 2020 they already fixed the cam phasers, mine made 437whp/491rwtq on a mustang dyno w/ a very conservative 93 octane Gearhead tune. Has had the tune since 3k miles lol.
Thank you for the post. For a 2017 raptor with 100K miles I'm glad it's still running well. However, watching several videos some were not so luck with reliability and I'm kind of scared with my 2019 raptor with just over 75K miles, though no major issues so far and crossing my fingers.
Well informed video! I’m looking for a raptor and I found a 2020 with 95k miles for $51k, 1 owner no accidents. Don’t know much about ford engines and how reliable they are hence why I’m here. Does that seem like a good deal? Only thing I’m on edge is how they got 95k miles in 2-3 years
Doesn’t seem like a bad deal these trucks have a lot of life in them as long as the truck is clean and doesn’t look like it’s been beat to death off-roading than it seem like a good deal
No they do not all come with extended cabs.. Most are crew cabs. I have a special order ext cab. Ford has now canceled the ext cab for the gen 3, which is crap..
Yooo let me fly out and chill with you and Derek for the weekend that would be a dream bro you guys are lit as hell I have a 2014 fbo 5.0 but I couldn’t drive it there. I want to ride in your 10 speed and see how it is and your foxbody I love foxbody my dad had three while I grew up
105 k on mine gen 2 and it looks damn near brand new has a few rock chips here and there. Cam phaser issue at 97k and it was covered from ford, i do have the extended warranty though. I get 16.4 on average with auto shut off always turned off and drive in comfort mode all the time unless i want to fly by people then ill switch to sport on the fly when needed, do expect harder shifts while in sport and it should be driven hard in sport its what the truck needs. In my opinion gen 2 looks way better less boxy all the amber makers are smaller but still bright gen 3 looks like all amber makers are huge. Pretty much same performance gen 3 vs gen 2 unless your getting a raptor R. Gen 2 is more curvy/sleek looking. 37 plus is harder long term on all components plus you get less travel less mpg i personally don't think the trade off is worth it. Unless your offroad only and don't care about countless repairs. Gen 3 screen upgrades are nice though lol. Love raptors they'll do almost whatever you throw at them.
@@drewnardwoods i dont think so. Theres some tearms on the cam phaser recall that they cover but it within a certain time frame and millage. I dont remember those details. You'll have to call a dealer or do some research.
Surprised to hear someone say they didn't like the ecoboost in the raptor. Most stuff I've seen, everyone's loved it over the 6.2L, just don't like the exhaust sound
I just got a 2018 52k miles. Only drove 100 or so miles because I have a company vehicle so it sits. It's great so far. I did notice the temp gauge got up to 230-240. Not sure if that's normal for one of these.
Congrats on the raptor and I would keep a eye on that gauge to make sure the truck doesn’t over heat also check all the fluids make sure everything is full
I'm guessing you're picking up a truck just a guess cause last video you said it's 2 wheel drive which means it also comes 4x4 I'm investigating the best I can lol
Hey I am looking at Gen 2 2018 raptor. It has 93,000 miles and going for $49,000. Do you think that is a good buy? Did your dad or you have problems with the cam phasers? I heard there is a recall on them with rattle. I’m not sure if they would replace them if need be.
I don't get how in this video you someone managed to make the Raptor look small and then when I watch a video by Schaefchen the thing looks absolutely huge.
I’m looking at a 17’ with 95k miles for $44k 802A pkg. curious how well these engines run with high mileage. Has warranty until 125k. Is that a good price?
Price seems a little high for a stock truck and a 2017 if the truck is really clean and one owner and still has warranty it’s not a bad buy the prices usually dip down way more once they cross over 100k miles
@@ItalianStallion410 thank you for the response man. I appreciate it. Yeh it’s a one owner all stock. All maintenance records on hand from ford. I am cautious because the miles. I just gotta avoid its beauty and be logical lol
@@ripesince88 these trucks are built to take a beating so the will last much longer than the average truck. And that’s even better one owner and all the records
So I’m a Toyota boy, I own an FJ cruiser and I’m looking to buy this gen Raptor because the new Tundras are dumb expensive, especially the TRD pro. Has there been any crazy mechanical faults that are common on Raptors? I know very little about Ford trucks, mechanically.
@@jds3535b I have seen a few in person but I will be able to compare it to the gen 2 I have. The raptor that will be here is the 35 package and my 37 package will be here in July so I will compare all of them
at 100k miles, how many times have you had to address the shocks? Fox recommends every 10,000-50,000 miles. I'm wondering if that's more of a marketing gimmick to make you do it or if it's an actual problem.
@@ItalianStallion410 Thanks for the info! I'm picking up a 2020 tomorrow with 49k miles on it and I was worried I'd have to dump thousands into fixing the shocks right out the gate.
@@tooie you will be good with the 2020 because those came with the active shocks the 2017 didn’t have that so yours are way better just do a cold start on that truck and make sure it doesn’t have timing chain or cam phaser issues.
@@ItalianStallion410 lol gotcha. I’m a criminal defense lawyer and so in Texas they call coyotes the guys who sneak Mexicans over the border. Like your channel and the vibe. What state are you in? That’s a nice spread. Happy Thanksgiving!
The gen 3 should of been updated with power and torque. Ford dropped the ball on that one. I do love my 17 Raptor though. Have loved my v-8 f150's also. They could of made the Raptor R even more powerful than 700 Hp... Ford updated the shocks on the 19 to live valve. Pissed me off, lol. The comments on the moonroof were off, most people have had issues with noise/rattleing. Not water issues.. This youtuber seems like a spoiled kid...
Well thanks for your opinion I know many people that had water issues with their trucks about 3 just in my family…. But yeah spoiled kid far from a kid buddy
