Hey scotty, ive owned 8 of these cars, and i bought 3 of em in the last 2 years. Epa mileage is not as advertized. Highway mpg in nebraska wyoming highway sure 28, otherwise highway is 21, 23 mpg best. Local 13 to 15 mpg. The 1979-1991 grand marquis with 302 (5.0) have less horsepower, and less mpg. My 1989 GM, I get 17 mpg "local highway" could probably get more in kansas highway. My 2000 GM (with 190k miles) and 2008 GM (with 60k miles), highway mileage about the same 15 local and 20/21 highway. The 4.6 v8 and transmission is far more reliable, durable, and longet lasting than 302 (5.0) and AOD transmission, i like both 79 box and 98 aeros theyre workhorse vehicles with plenty of room for DIY mechanic. Spark plugs. Coil packs, belts, alternator, starter , water pump accessible for repair and not too complicated.

The worst decision Ford ever made was to discontinue the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis & Town Car. These boat sized, body on frame, unkilled modular V8 will go on till Jesus comes back. With regular maintenance...it will last you a lifetime. As an owner of a 2005 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, these cars are GOLDEN. I chose it over a new car. As of December 2022, I now own a 2011 Crown Victoria LX, the 05 was totaled.

Crown Vics really aren't bad on gas unless you're doing burnouts and driving like a bat out of hell. Seems to be one of those things people who've never owned or experienced for themselves have regurgitated so much that it's become something they're falsely well known for. Very bizarre. Just about everyone that makes conversation with me about my car will ask if its bad on gas, and the obvious - if it was an actual police car. lol

Mine is a white 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis GS. It was my grandmother’s car until she could no longer able to drive it. Since I have ownership over the vehicle, this beauty is still alive with 111k miles on it as of today. Before I owned the car, my family had to take turns with it for going on road trips to doctor visits, and my grandmother didn’t care if they borrowed it. The vehicle at the time had 90,315 miles on it when I first started to own it. Now, as of today it has 111,134 miles. My grandmother did tell me if I ever needed a car, I could have hers. Well, here I am today with her vehicle for going on almost 3 years into ownership. I love the vehicle and my grandmother too.

One of the reasons why I love scotty's channel so much is his philosophy on cars is similar to mine. I don't care about excess technology, sportiness(though it can be fun to have), or flare but rather a machine that is simple, subdued, and reliable. An old skool car that focuses on actual comfort, sturdiness, and reliability opposed to the "cool factor" which as a fad can quickly wear off.

These actually can get that type of mileage on the highway.... I drove my 2004 Vic almost 90 miles a day for two years to one job, with highway driving being about 75% of the way. I averaged about 23-24 mpg a tank and could get upwards of 320 miles out of a tank easily. The little city driving I did greatly brought down the average of the highway mileage it was getting, but it had to be up there in the 26-28 mpg. They are extremely reliable with just regular maintenance - with the exception of rusting easily around wheel wells and exhaust manifolds, and intake manifolds are prone to cracking and leaking. I had to replace the intake on mine at around 160k miles but part was not expensive and wasn't hard to do.

The only thing I've got a problem with is they came with plastic intakes so after a hundred fifty thousand miles the intake would explode so you can get aftermarket performance parts because of the same motor as a fox body mustang Ford 4.6 motor so if you replace the intake with aluminum intake you be all good
@rays7437
@rays7437 4 года назад
The coolant crossover passage that "exploded" was plastic early on. There was a recall to replace them with the updated manifold. Most people ignored the recall and waited until it expired before wanting to do anything about it. But you are right. An all aluminum intake manifold is best.
@EdwardM104
@EdwardM104 4 года назад
@@rays7437 Mine with the updated manifold still had the manifold leak. The dealer couldn't get a new one anymore (this was for a 96 so before the PI heads) so we had to try aftermarket options and junked the car after the second $250 manifold failed to seal properly. Also had an 06 which was supposed to no have the timing chain problems of the 00-04 engines but around 100K miles developed severe chain rattle so we offloaded that car too. IMO, as someone who has owned plenty of other cars, there's not a ton special about these, they weren't especially comfortable (older American cars had better seats and most any luxury car rides better except performance-oriented stuff) or powerful (that and the transmission sucks even with the J-mod because it has such wide ratios), reliability was maybe better than average but it's no Lexus. Both of ours were meticulously maintained using only Ford parts when possible and always had something wrong. I think the Crown Vics, especially the P71s would be better due to more power from the getgo (in the P71) and manual climate control, the automatic climate control was always failing on both of ours.

Mines a jewel, 1999 p71, kept in a garage by a sleepy town detective. Only had 72k on it when I bought it in 2015. I have always liked the car but man you really made me appreciate it in a really different way. It's a member of my family, my plan is always to have it be the old grandpa car my grandkids can have to get to school or whatever. You really have a way to bring up that kind of feeling and I am just a lot more grateful for what I have now. Thank you.

I just bought a 2004 Lincoln Town Car with only 4400 miles on the clock - not 44,000 but 4400! I paid a fair price for it, but it's literally a 16 year old NEW car! Thing is immaculate and incredibly comfortable! Everything Scotty says about these Panther platform cars is correct. They are super well built!
