No. Not a branch. The Orthodox Church claims it's the Church that Christ and the Apostles started. The Roman Church was apart of the 5 Jurisdiction/Seas of the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. There was a skism in 1054 with the Roman Church and the other 4 Seas which are the Eastern Orthodox Church.
To add: The Roman church was excommunicated from the rest of the Church in AD 1054 for heresies like the Filioque being at the time unofficially added to the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed and the Bishop of Rome trying to seize power that was not his, creating the Papacy (the title of Pope was not used for the Bishop of Rome alone until the 11th century). The Roman church then created its own communion of sui iuris churches called Uniates (often the RCC would "recruit" Eastern churches either by the sword or promising them protection or something beneficial; these Uniates would then be used to force Orthodox to join or be martyred).
